Chapter 89: Chapter 89- The Name Of Torrence
DAMON~
The atmosphere around us was alive with energy and excitement, filled with the vibrant sound of chatter and the joyous screams of revelers. Men and women strolled about, their faces alight with animated expressions as they engaged in light-hearted conversations and laughter; it was a cacophony of happiness that seemed to pulse in sync with the vibrant night. In particular, I noticed the pure pride etched on Daniel’s face as he observed the event from beside me, his satisfaction evident as everything unfolded seamlessly before him, I could understand, there was a feeling of satisfaction when something you organize plays out without fault.
A large canvas tent sheltered the gathering, where people comfortably settled around crackling bonfires. Laughter intertwined with the warm scent of smoke, while glasses clinked together, accompanied by the sounds of cheerful toasts. Some couples were even so far gone that they had begun intensely making out in the open, completely absorbed in the thrill of the festivities they had little to no care for the world.
As I took a moment to soak it all in, I turned to Daniel, who had played such a pivotal role in orchestrating this entire celebration.
"Well done," I expressed sincerely as I eased back into my seat, the leaping flames in front of us casting a warm glow that illuminated the faces nearby. His smile beamed for a moment before he shrugged modestly, redirecting his gaze back to the joyous scene unfolding around us.
"It was the least I could do," he replied, the bravado in his voice softening just a touch as a hint of humility flickered across his expression.
Carlos, sitting nearby and stretching his hands toward the comforting warmth of the fire, chimed in.
"It accomplished its purpose." He was absolutely right—looking around the tent now, I could see that the heavy, oppressive atmosphere that had hung over us for what seemed like forever had completely lifted. Daniel had worked hard to transform that gloom into a vivid tapestry of joy and celebration, and it was all thanks to him.
In that moment, surrounded by laughter, warmth, and rekindled spirits, I felt a wave of gratitude wash over me. All around us, there was a sense of community and connection that had been sorely missed, and Daniel’s efforts had made it all possible.
"Thank you," I said again, words that I was sure Daniel had grown tired of hearing from me but I couldn’t stop saying, So many times he had stepped up when I needed him, never falling short of expectations, it was a trait that made me want to hug him and shout aloud in gratitude but I restrained myself.
I owed so much to the two men who sat around the fire, providing me with much-needed company as we continued to watch, I remembered there was something I wanted to do. I stood to my feet and picked up my glass filled with fine forty-three-year-old wine.
"Can I have everyone’s attention?" I announced loudly and immediately the tent quieted down as all eyes turned to me, I smiled and began to talk "I wanna raise a toast, to Howlcreek, to all of you, My people. Time and time again we have been faced with disaster after disaster with not even a moment to catch our breath, But still, we remain the greatest pack to ever set foot on the soil of the earth. So I raise this toast to commend you all, You are my people and as long as I breathe I will continue to serve as your alpha!" I said at the top of my voice and they all erupted in loud cheers with their glasses raised in the air.
"To the Alpha!!" They all shouted happily before they continued their independent activities. I sat back down and continued to enjoy the evening when I spotted someone else rising to his feet, I recognized him, No, I knew him, and he was Mark Corners ’The Grey Wolf’.
"To the Alpha, To the name of Torrence." He said, his loud hypnotic voice booming through the tent and reaching the ears of all those around him, snatching hold of all their attention without the slightest bit of afford, He radiated with natural charisma, needing nothing more than a smile to capture the hearts of all those around. Scattered brown hair styled in a round cup, a big muscular frame that gave him a powerful presence, and a faded blue gaze that as of the moment was fixed on me.
"To the name of Torrence!" They all cheered, his eyes lingered on me for a few more seconds before he sat back down. Something felt off like that wasn’t just a toast, it felt like a warning, I decided to let it go but after a few moments passed I saw him walking towards me, Taking his sweet time with each gentle step that touched the ground till he was finally in front of me. I smiled as a greeting as I stood up so we would be on the same eye level, he didn’t return my smile but instead looked at the two men who remained seated with their eyes fixed on him.
"The festival is a hit," He said, his voice evening more charming up close, I shrugged.
"It was all Daniel," I said with my eyes blankly fixed on him.
"Ohhhh, that’s sad," He responded with his eyes turned to the crowd.
"How so?" I asked, almost intrigued by his train of thought.
"It’s sad you can’t even organize a gala by yourself." Immediately after those words were said Daniel and Carlos jumped to their feet and met his gaze.
"There are consequences to speaking that way to your alpha," Carlos warned calmly. Mark was unfazed as he stared into Carlo’s eyes.
"Then why do I still draw breath?" He asked.
"Be—" Daniel was about to say but he interrupted him
"No, your speech was a lie, The pack is weak, The alpha is weak." He said, and I felt my heart sink, there it was, the thing I had been dreading had finally happened, My inactivity had begun raising doubts and I couldn’t let that stand.
