Chapter 83: Chapter 83- A Solution
AUTHORS POV~
He let out a deep, exhausted sigh, sinking further into the warm embrace of the black leather chair, a piece of furniture that had become almost a cocoon for him.
With every small movement, he felt an overwhelming heaviness settle over him; even actions that used to come so naturally, like breathing, now seemed like tedious tasks. His usual carefree smile had vanished, replaced by a look of fatigue that didn’t go unnoticed by Thomas.
"What’s wrong?" Thomas asked, his voice filled with genuine concern, the kind only people who had known each other for a long time could feel. He could see that Micheal was clearly struggling with something that was weighing heavily on his mind, and it made him uneasy but instead of answering, Micheal simply let out a muffled groan, shifting to find a more comfortable position on the sofa, but it was clear that no matter how he arranged himself, the discomfort lingered.
Setting the can of beer he had been casually sipping on down on the table, Thomas leaned in closer, his body language a silent invitation for Micheal to open up.
He released a soft, calming breath, his eyes fixed on his friend, trying to convey the warmth and understanding he felt deep inside.
"You really don’t have to bottle this shit up," he said, his tone laced with compassion, signaling to Micheal that he was there for him if he chose to share. The offer touched Micheal in a way that made him briefly consider opening up, but the thought of revealing his emotions to Thomas felt daunting. What could he possibly say? The source of his turmoil was a woman—a person he had no significant relationship with, and it felt utterly pathetic to be wallowing in such emotional distress over someone who didn’t belong to him in any meaningful way.
"I’m fine, just having a shitty day," Micheal replied, mustering a half-hearted smile as he sat up straighter. But even as he spoke the words, they felt hollow, insincere. He turned his gaze toward the clock on the wall, watching the second hand ticking away, an agonizing reminder of time slipping through his fingers, as if it was mocking the turmoil that churned inside him.
Thomas let out a deep, heavy sigh that seemed to carry the weight of the world. He couldn’t shake the feeling of disappointment that washed over him as he thought about Michael and his almost infuriating stubbornness. It wasn’t just a passing annoyance; it was as if he was watching a train wreck unfold in slow motion, fully aware of the inevitable crash but powerless to intervene. Michael had this ridiculous tendency to tackle his problems all on his own, convinced he could solve everything without a hint of help or advice.
In the past, Thomas had brushed off this behavior as just another one of Michael’s quirks, rationalizing it with some half-hearted excuse that there was nothing he could really do to change his friend’s mind. But today was different. Today, he refused to play the role of the fool, brushing aside Michael’s thoughtless justifications like they were nothing more than an inconvenient breeze.
"Look, I’ve seen you go through bad days so I know this is something different," Thomas said, turning to face Michael with a seriousness that made the words hang heavily in the air between them.
Michael barely registered the impact of Thomas’s words. His gaze remained glued to the clock on the wall, each tick amplifying his discomfort. "Not everything has a deeper meaning," was his mumbled response, but even as the words left his mouth, he felt a gnawing frustration building within him. He wanted to engage, to share what was on his mind; it was just that every time he tried to articulate his feelings, he stumbled and fell, only to recognize the sheer absurdity of them.
"What was she to you? A girlfriend? Hardly. Did you ever have even a flicker of a romantic connection? Nah, not really. So why in the world are you acting like this?" The questions swirled in his mind, and he didn’t need anyone else to point out the fact that he was acting like a complete idiot. Deep down, he was acutely aware of the ridiculousness of his behavior.
"Nah, I don’t agree," Thomas finally stated as he pushed himself up from the couch, his irritation bubbling to the surface as he pulled out his cell phone, the light of the phone’s bright screen reflexed in his eyes as he tapped away, Curious, Micheal tried to sneak a peek at whatever it is Thomas was doing but Thomas immediately stood up and completely avoided him.
"What the fuck are you doing," Micheal asked with a low growl but Thomas refused to answer as he put his phone to his ear.
Micheal could hear it ringing, Who the hell was he calling was his first thought as he jumped up.
"Who are you calling," He asked but Thomas still refused to give him an answer as he used a finger to shun him, the call finally went through and a large smile curved his lips.
"Hey, Cindy." He greeted and Micheal’s eyes widened as he heard her name.
"What the fuck!" He yelled as he lunged at him but Thomas easily evaded him.
"It’s Thomas...Yeah, I’m good....you remember Micheal...Yeah, he was wondering if you’d like to meet up."
"Please stop," Micheal begged but Thomas didn’t listen.
"I’ll send you the address," He said then cut the call.
"Why? Why did you do that?" Micheal asked dramatically, Thomas laughed as he walked back to the chair and sank into it.
"Because You got shit on your mind and you need a really big distraction."
"So, she’s a distraction?" Micheal asked, almost offended.
"No fucking her is, You know I respect women but I’m a straight man who likes to fuck and when I need to take my mind off the shit I just put calls and fuck someone’s daughter, and the dark clouds go away and right now My Honorable friend, You need to fuck." Thomas explained. Michael slapped his face, unable to stand the smile that was plastered across Thomas’s lips.
"If this blows up in my face, I’ll kill you." He said, Thomas laughed but didn’t reply as Micheal sat back down and they waited for Cindy to come.
