Chapter 81: Chapter 81- Overhaul
DAMON~
"What?"
"Yep."
"You’re messing with me right."
"I wish I was bro," I said with an exhausted sigh as I slumped into my seat and let out an exhausted sigh.
"So what now?" Jermaine asked as he sat down and put the flame of his lighter to the joint he held between two of his fingers.
"I honestly don’t know." I said feeling an unearthing sense of defeat then I looked at him "Pass that shit." I said as I reached for it, he smiled and handed it to me. I put it in my mouth and drew it in then breathed out a thick cloud of smoke.
"I’m just tired."
"I get it, When you thought she hated you at least you could apologize—"
"But how do you make it better when the person just isn’t interested." I completed as I closed my eyes and groaned exhaustedly "I even fucked shit up with her friend or boss, I don’t really know what they are."
"How?"
"I kinda blurted out and called her Zarah in front of him," I explained.
"Shit." Jermaine Said, "You’re fucked men." He added with a soft chuckle. I sighed, he didn’t need to say it, I know how fucked I was. I had an appointment with doctor Grace tomorrow and by the way she sounded on the phone, she may have had good news. Jermaine tossed aside the burnt-out joint and stood up from where he sat.
"Where’s Carlos?"
"He’s checking on things at the border, making sure there are no disturbances or incidents that have been missed," I answered calmly.
"Oh, what about Daniel, I haven’t really seen him since I came here."
"He’s been busy organizing the moonlit gala," I answered blankly as I pulled out a Rubik’s cube and broke it apart.
"Isn’t that supposed to be the Luna’s job?" He said as he sat back down.
"Yeah. But they were really close so he knows how she did it and shit, plus it was his idea to still hold it so I couldn’t decline." I answered, with all the individual cubes of the Rubik’s now spread about my desk.
"How does that work?"
"What?"
"Being cheated on." He answered abruptly, his eyes fixed on me as if waiting for me to sob or something but I gave him my honest reaction, I picked up one of the cubes and said.
"I don’t really care, it’s not like I was ever in love with her or anything," I answered coldly.
"That’s cold bro." He responded with a small smile curving his lips.
"It really isn’t, the fact that she cheated means the feeling was mutual, but the one thing I can’t forgive her for is abandoning our son," I replied as I turned my eyes to the cubes and began to rearrange them.
"Our?"
"He’s still my son, I raised him and even though lately I’ve been too busy to actually spend time with him, Blood isn’t gonna change the fact he is my son."
"Wow. You’re a real G."
"Nah it’s the way I was raised, even though I forgot about it for a minute," I replied as I picked up the now assembled cube with all the colors perfectly aligned.
"I guess that’s one way to do it," Jermaine said with his eyes locked on the cube.
"What?"
"If you can’t fix what’s already broken, then just bring it all to the ground and build it back up." He answered. He was talking about what I had just done with the cude but something clicked in my head as he said those words.
’Bring it all to the ground and build it back up.’ Whatever it was I and Zarah used to have was for a certain 6 feet below the Earth’s surface but there were still residuals like she said, all she saw when she looked at me was the person who caused her pain so now I needed to erase those residues and build our relationship back from the ground, step by step, bit by bit, brick by brick till it was as strong as it once was. It was gonna be hard but I wouldn’t fold, I wouldn’t give up till she was able to look at the way she once did.
"Do you know where she works?" I asked Jermaine
"Yeah, at some advertising company."
"Do you know who that Micheal guy is?"
"Yeah, he’s her boss and also one of the only humans she interacts with."
"So they are close?"
"I’m not sure, I never let the people that were watching her get too close so she wouldn’t feel invaded." He answered. I didn’t need that answer though, I knew they were, the way she smiled when they were coming out of the car, the emotion in her voice when she tried to convince him to stay, it all pointed to it. And I fucked it up so I had to take responsibility and fix it.
I put the Rubik’s cube back into my desk and stood up, Jermaine followed as we exited the office. We walked through the long connecting halls til we eventually got to a balcony that overlooked several large tents and canopies, people walked up and down the place but from this height, they all looked like ants.
"It looks nice," Jermaine said, the lights of the scene sparkled in his eyes making his brown as sparkle as he watched intently.
"Maybe you’ll find yourself a mate this time." I joked, I had never known him to be one who really cared about romantic relationships but maybe in the time we spent apart that had changed.
"You know I don’t really care about that, Just gonna find a baddie to fuck then step." He replied with a mischievous smile curving his lips.
"You’re an animal." I chuckled
"Yeah, a fucking stud." He bragged, laughing softly as we turned our sights back to the beautiful scene that was being created right before our eyes.
