Chapter 80: Chapter 80- I Just Don’t Care

ZARAH~

"Who is Zarah?" He asked with wide eyes, suddenly my brain decided it was time to forget how to speak.

"Urmmm—" I dragged on till Damon joined in.

"I just made a mistake." He replied Michael’s eyes went to him.

"You’re lying." He said bluntly, Damon stepped back as if surprised by his words.

"I’m not I just made a mistake." He said calmly but his nerves showed and I knew Micheal wouldn’t miss it.

"Why are you lying?" Micheal said then turned to me "Is your name Zarah?" He asked.

I didn’t know what else to say so I let out a bold-faced lie.

"Of course not, my name is Dina, he just made a mistake." I said but I knew he wouldn’t buy it, I’ve seen Micheal at work, he was always able to tell when someone was lying to him, according to him his father had always said ’to be an honest man you first need to understand dishonest ones’ so he had read on signs and different ways to tell when someone was lying till he had almost become a human lie detector.

"No, He almost called you Zarah before but he corrected himself the moment he wasn’t focused on it he blurted it out." Micheal said, "Is your name Zarah?" He asked again, I was torn but I had to tell him the truth, the more I lied the more it would worsen.

"Yes," I replied quietly.

"Oh." He said, I could tell from the look in his eyes that my confirmation had affected him deeply, he turned around and began walking away so I followed him and held onto his wrist. As my hands touched his skin he quickly pulled it away.

"No!" He yelled, "If your name is Zarah who the fuck is Dina Meyers, Is your last name even Meyers?"

"No, my name is Zarah Langdon and Dina Meyers is?"

"Have I just been talking to a fake persona all this time?"

"It’s not like that." I tried to explain but he just shook his head and continued to walk away.

"Wait!" I yelled out.

"Why? So you can tell me more lies? I don’t know you?" He yelled, his voice shaky with grief.

"Yes, you do," I replied.

"I know Dina Meyers and she’s fake, I don’t know who the fuck is Zarah Langdon." He said, his voice filled with an emotion I related all too well with. Betrayal.

"She’s me." I said as I was finally able to hold onto his hands without him pulling away "You know me Micheal, I’m still me regardless of what I’m being called." I said gently, he shook his head slowly but didn’t pull away.

"You’re wrong." He said under his breath, I wanted to ask how when he answered me "You’re not her and she’s not you, If Dina wasn’t your real name, then what else am I wrong about?"

"Nothing," I assured, squeezing his hands gently.

"We both know that a lie. " He said and pulled his hands out of mine and began walking away.

"I can take you home." I offered but he didn’t reply as he just kept on walking away till he was out of sight.

"Fuck."I cursed under my breath and then turned to Damon, this was all his fault. I stomped towards him.

"Fuck you," I growled as I walked up the stairs.

"Zarah just give me a minute." As he ran up them and stood in front of me, looking past him I could see Nancy peeking out the window so I knew I had to get over with this fast.

"What the fuck do you want?" I hurriedly asked, my body suddenly weak with exhaustion.

"I just wanna talk." He replied.

"About what?, What is so important that you had to go ahead and ruin my life just to say!" I cried out in frustration, He stepped back with a hurt look in his eyes but I didn’t care, I might have just lost one of the only people who actually cared about me and it was all his fault.

"I’m sorry." He said, his sudden words washed me away and left me speechless, they were genuine, with no sinister undertone, no hint at something else, just a simple genuine apology but that wasn’t enough.

"You’re sorry," I repeated, he gritted before he responded.

"Yes." He replied quietly with his eyes locked on the floor as if it had the most beautiful painting ever created.

"I don’t care Damon." I finally said, he looked at me with surprise, does weren’t the words he was expecting to hear but I was tired of saying how much I hated him.

"Please leave my house," I said calmly as I gently pushed him aside and walked to the door, as I held the handle I heard him murmur something.

"I’m sorry, I’m sorry for that day, I’m sorry for tossing you aside, I know it was wrong and I’m sorry and I hate that the only thing I have is words but you have to believe me, I’m sorry, I’m really fucking sorry." He said, I turned to look at him but I could think of no words to say, but I could remember it all. The way he touched me that night, how his lips pressed against mine but most of all, how he watched as I was torn apart by those bastards, the way he openly rejected me. I could no longer remember the Damon who was my friend, I could no longer remember the Damon I was in love with, the only thing I could remember is that man that talked down to me that night, the man that fucked me and threw money at my feet like I was a common whore. That’s all I could remember when I looked at him now.

There wasn’t any anger and maybe everyone was right, maybe I didn’t hate him, at least not anymore but I honestly couldn’t care about the man who stood before me and that was all there was to it. I turned back, opened the door, walked into the house, and shut it firmly behind me, leaving him standing outside with a look on his face that I had never seen before, alone and speechless.
