Chapter 73: Chapter 73- Conference Room
SIMON~
The very next day after my first encounter with Luther we were all called to a meeting by Gabriel to most likely announce his arrival.
I sat in my seat, Stony silence filling the large conference room, the only ones in our seats were me and Gabriel. The rest had yet to come, even the one who was supposed to be the subject of the meeting.
"What do you think of my son?" Gabriel suddenly asked I turned my eyes to him, I didn’t know exactly how to answer the question so I was hesitant.
"It’s all right, you can answer honestly," Luther assured with a smile blessing his blank features.
"He seems spirited."
"Is that another word for crazy?" Gabriel chuckle.
"No it’s my way of saying passionate, do you think he’s crazy?" I asked, wondering why he would use such a term to describe his son.
"A Man shouldn’t pretend a madman is sane simply cause they share blood, especially not when we sit where we sit, people get killed when we ignore things that are clear to others."
"Yet you do not seem to be worried about him." I pointed out.
"Maybe, I’ve realized something about the boy, He might be crazy but he follows orders and as far as I got my hand on the leash, my mind is rested."
"The leash isn’t always effective." I cautioned, He turned to me, and as he was about to say something the door was pushed open and people began walking into the conference room and taking their seats. After all was settled and they were all seated and quiet Gabriel decided it was time to kick off the meeting. His chair screeched as it scratched against the floor and he rose to his feet.
"Welcome." He greeted "Let us—", He was interrupted by the brash sound of Luther strutting into the room, everyone’s head snapped towards him, glaring angrily at the disrespectful nature of his entrance.
"Geezers, Father— John." He greeted me but glared when he called my name, I flashed him a warm, provoking him but he remained quiet as he walked to Gabriel’s side and stood with a smug smile on his face as he looked at all the men who glared at him.
"This is my son, Luther Gaines." Gabriel introduced calmly, I could almost hear the annoyed growls of the men that surrounded the table except Anthony Fischer who had a pleased smile on his lips.
"Why is he here?" One of the men hastily asked but still made sure to keep his tone respectful.
"Because he is my son."
"This isn’t a family agency." Johnas Rivers barked, Gabriel turned his eyes to him but the Johnas remained strong.
"Actually, since I am the head of this agency and there is no one in this company who outranks me, it will be a family agency if I please," Gabriel said calmly with his grey eyes fixed on the Johnas.
"How—"
"Which is why, My son will be taking your seat, pack off your office within the hour or you’ll be registered as a trespasser and effectively neutralized." Johnas shifted uncomfortably in his seat with a look of disbelief on his face.
"You can’t be serious," Johnas said with a choked chuckle but Gabriel remained expression as he answered the man.
"Test me and see," Gabriel said, his words cold with indifference. The words sent shivers of excitement down my spine as I hoped he would wait and see what Gabriel would do after all he had just been openly insubordinate so of course he knew that would hold some consequences.
"Please, Gabriel," Johnas said, his voice a shaky plea, Gabriel remained the same.
"Mr Gabriel." Gabriel corrected with a blank stare "You questioned me. I can’t have my people questioning me so I’ll replace you with someone who won’t ."
"I’m sorry Mr Gabriel, it won’t happen again." The man begged shamelessly but Gabriel remained the same.
"Of course it won’t, cause you no longer work for me.", Johnas crashed to his knees with literal tears running down his face as he crawled towards Gabriel and held onto his legs.
"Please!" He begged calmly. Anthony who had been enjoying the scene so far stood up and walked to them, Grabbing onto Johnas by the collar.
"Don’t you have a little dignity?" Anthony said, his voice filled with disgust as he raised him up and with relative ease threw him out the door like a rag doll and proceeded to lock the doors.
Following the dramatic scene I had just witnessed was a Stony silence as Anthony stepped away from the door and looked at both Luther and Gabriel, he placed a hand on his chest and gently bowed his head.
"Welcome Mr Luther." He said. I had always found Anthony to be amusing, he wasn’t your usual kiss ass instead he had an annoying sense of loyalty and devotion that made my skin crawl.
"Thank you." Luther smirked as he walked to the now vacant chair and sat down, he let out a heavy satisfactory sigh "Feels like home." He said, Anthony nodded and walked back to his seat.
"Now that we are rid of distractions can we get to the reason for this meeting?" I said excitedly, Gabriel nodded as he cleared his throat and began to talk.
"The wolves are moving in a different way than ever before." He announced.
"What way?" I faked intrigue.
"They are uniting, under the banner of Simon Reverend who has proven to be a bigger threat than we once thought."
"What’s wrong with wolves uniting? Isn’t that better for us?" the man who sat in between Luther and Anthony asked.
"In normal circumstances, I would want to thank Simon, united wolves are easier to control and easier to regulate but Lucas tells us his inspirations are not as noble as wanting to unite his face," Gabriel explained, and my smile widened.
"What is his inspirations?" I asked cheerily, thoroughly enjoying the moment I was in.
"Unfortunately not even Lucas knows but he has warned us to expect the worst."
"Why don’t we strike first instead of waiting for them to wipe us out," Anthony asked.
"Because we don’t yet have the upper hand. As this organization currently is if we faced off a Pack on the level of Howlcreek we will be decimated." Luther answered.
"So before we go into a fight the odds must be in our favor."
"Exactly, Fighting means we put ourselves at risk and in a position of weakness, and if the other packs sense our weakness we risk—Annihilation."
