Chapter 53: Chapter 53- Blue Gaze
ZARAH~
I looked at him with a smile on my face, watching as his blue eyes scanned the files he held in his hands, I could tell that he was completely immersed in what he was doing.
"Staring is rude." He said with his eyes still fixed on the documents in his hands.
"It’s rude to be so focused on work when you have a visitor," I replied with a coy smile.
"I don’t consider you a visitor though." He said as he put down the documents and looked at me.
"Why?"
"You’ve been here a million times."
"A vast exaggeration," I argued.
"Maybe." He admitted playfully.
"Even still, today’s the first day I’ve actually entered the apartment.", he thought about my words and when he realized I was right he shrugged.
"That was always your choice." He reminded with a smirk.
"Yeah, I guess I didn’t want to seem intrusive," I replied, he smiled as he rested his back on the chair and looked at me with eyes I couldn’t read into.
"What’s on your mind?" I asked as I began feeling exposed by his gaze.
"Nothing, I just—I just realized I really don’t really know anything about you." He answered.
"Of course you do," I said softly.
"Nah, I know what kind of person you are, but I don’t know what made you that person." He answered calmly, I thought for a moment and I realized he was right.
"Ok, ask me a question and if I’m comfortable with it I’ll give you an answer but for every question you ask I’ll be getting an answer from you as well," I said.
"Fair enough." He smiled as he leaned forward "What year were you born?"
"2000," I replied immediately a smile on my lips as the intrigue that showed on his face grew.
"1998." He said "Month?"
"May."
"December. Where were you born.", I shook my head indicating I wasn’t comfortable with it, he looked disappointed but not for long "What college did you go to?"
"NYU," I replied with a prideful smirk curling the ends of my lips.
"Princeton, What did you study?"
"Marketing," I answered.
"Economics but at one point I did want to transfer to Marketing."
"Why?"
"That’s what my dad studied."
"You wanted to follow in his footsteps."
"Yeah, then I realized he was the kind of man he was because he made his own choices so I had to make mine." His words made me look further into this man I had admired so much and better understand the way he thought and reasoned.
"Let’s get back on track." He said and continued his questioning "First boyfriend?"
"None," I said hesitantly, he raised a brow in disbelief.
"You’ve never had a boyfriend? I don’t believe that." He said skeptically.
"I’m serious.", he leaned forward and stared at me.
"Why?", I thought of a reason but they were none.
"I guess I’ve never just been Interested in anyone enough," I said, and as the words left my mouth an image of Damon flashed through my mind but I ignored it.
"Wow, that’s—" He stopped as if not knowing the word he wanted to use and finished the sentence.
"What about you?" I asked.
"Well, her name was Jenny Martin, it was eighth grade and I think we didn’t really like each other but just dated cause it made our moms happy." He answered with a small smile.
"When did you lose your virginity?" I heard myself ask, unable to hold back my curiosity, his eyes widened and a playful smile crossed his lips.
"Someone’s having ideas." He joked, I chuckled unable to deny it as he leaned back and stroked his chin "Emmm, when I was sixteen with Jenny’s best friend."
"You dawg." I joked as I playfully punched his arm, and he laughed.
"It’s not what you think, we had already broken up and we’ll she wanted a piece of Micheal." He explained with a cheeky smile, then he stopped and looked at me, his blue eyes soft with an emotion I couldn’t really understand.
"What?" I asked.
"Can I ask you something?" He asked softly, I didn’t know what he was going to ask but judging by his tone I knew it was gonna be personally, normal I would have said no but something about the way his eyes looked right now made me say.
"Sure.", He smiled, obviously pleased by my answer.
"Ermmm, Whose Elliott’s Dad?", My heart ached as I heard his words and the scar on my shoulder thumped with pain as I thought of him, he saw the torn look on my face and immediately said.
"I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bring up any bad memories." He apologized.
"It’s ok," I said as I forced back down all the emotions that had just suddenly busted out.
"I just wanted to know the kind of man that was lucky enough to be with you." He said, I shot him a look and he immediately began waving his hands as if trying to cancel out what he had just said.
"I didn’t mean it like you’re an object someone can have or something, I just, you know I—" He rambled nervously causing me to burst into a soft laugh, he stopped as he saw me laughing and his cheeks became a shade of red I hadn’t seen on him before.
"I’m sorry." He apologized quietly, using his palms to shield himself from embarrassment.
"It’s ok." I assured them with a warm smile "I know you didn’t mean it that way" I said then took out my phone to check the time.
"Whoa, past eight," I exclaimed as I rose to my feet.
"You’re going?" He said with a sad look in his eyes.
"Yeah," I said as I picked up my purse.
"I can drive you home." He offered as he reached for his car keys.
"No it’s ok, I’ll let you get back to work," I said as I began walking towards the door, he stood up and followed behind me, stopping a few steps away from me as I opened this door, I walked out and was about to turn and walk away when I stopped and turned back to him.
"Why did you miss work today?" I asked.
"Oh, I just wanted to rest I guess." He answered with a smile.
"Be there tomorrow or you’re gonna have to buy me dinner," I said jokingly.
"I’ll buy you dinner with way." He said with a dreamy smile on his face, I smiled then mouthed ’goodbye’ and gently closed the door as I walked away from his apartment.
