"How?" I asked with wide eyes and a voice filled with disbelief, he sat back down.

"Silver hollow invaded them a few days after Greyfure attacked their stronghold."

"GreyFure attacked?"

"Yes, Seems like just the way they have been pressing at us they had been doing the same to Greyfure."

"And unlike us who refused to retaliate they attacked and now they have been merged into Silver Hollow. Now Simon is the Alpha of both packs." Carlos explained. It finally clicked in my head why they hadn’t attacked yet, they didn’t want to win as the aggressors but as the defenders. Wolves respect strength and what shows more strength than defeating someone who attacked you?

"He wants us to attack first so he can be the defender," I said aloud.

"Alpha, Your nose," Carlos said with a scared expression on his face.

"What?" I asked as I touched the space below my nose, as I looked at my fingers, I saw the blood that had stained my fingers I suddenly felt my head begin to spin, and the world felt unstable as I stood up Carlos ran to my side and supported me.

"Alpha!" He exclaimed as he held onto my forearm but all I could hear were faint mumbles as the world turned upside down and I fell to the floor, everywhere went black.

I woke up three days later, Dressed in a hospital gown I stared at the beeping monitor, watching as the lines went from one point to another, the sound filled the room with a disturbing rhythm that made me feel sick to my stomach. I heard the door open and the sound of people walking into the small room but I paid them no attention as my eyes remained fixed on the monitor.

"Damon." Doctor Grace said as she placed her palms on my lap, Daniel and Carlos stood at the door with saddened looks on their faces.

"I—"

"I don’t wanna hear it." I interrupted softly as I looked away from the monitor and stared at her.

"Damon I—"

"I know, I know what you’re gonna say and I don’t wanna hear it" I repeated as I stepped off the bed "Where are my clothes?" I asked and Carlos walked forward and handed them to me "I appreciate everything you’ve done for me. Can I have the room?" I asked, she nodded silently and they all walked out allowing me the privacy to change. After getting dressed I sat back down on the bed with my mind focused on nothing in particular but at the same time occupied with thoughts of so many things, I caught a glimpse of my reflection in the mirror, and what I saw made my heart sink, I didn’t need to hear what Grace wanted to say cause I already knew what it was, I was actively dying and as each day passed the closer I got to the other side.

"This too shall pass," I said, in a poor attempt to cheer myself up, as expected it didn’t work so I let out an exhausted sigh and stood up from the bed, I walked to the door but as my hand reached for the handle, I froze, My body refusing to move and all I could think about was how fucked up everything was right now, I wanted to scream, I wanted to shout out in frustration but I couldn’t, No matter how bad the situation I couldn’t let the people at the other side of the door see me like that. I inhaled deeply then exhaled to calm down my nerves and my body finally accepted the command as I held onto the handle and pulled the door open. I stepped out and they all immediately stopped what they were doing and looked at me.

"Are you ok Alpha?" Carlos said, worry obvious in his voice, I faked a smile and said the words that had failed me a few moments ago.

"This too shall pass." I proclaimed confidently but the look in his eyes remained the same, they could see through my facade but seeing as I wanted to play it off they decided to play along.

"This too shall pass." They both chorused but Doctor Grace remained silent as her knowing eyes locked in on me.

"Can I speak to you alone?" She asked abruptly, I looked past them, her expression was as blank as always and I couldn’t even imagine what was going on in her head as she vacantly stared at me.

"Sure," I said, she nodded and began to walk away from us, gesturing me to follow her, I walked away from them and followed closely behind her till we reached her office.

"Sit." She ordered, and I refused.

"Sit down Damon Torrence." She said again and this time I obeyed, as I sat down she walked to the other side of her desk and sat down with her eyes still fixed on me.

"Do you understand the magnitude of this situation?"

"Of course, I understand the magnitude of the situation Grace," I answered angrily.

"So you understand that the pack needs their Alpha alive."

"Well that isn’t up to me now is it?"

"It is! I knew your father, he died in one of those rooms out there, I treated him with my own two hands when he got stabbed. He never took the easy way out of anything even when it came to his life and do you know what happened? he died and left the pack in the hands of a sixteen-year-old."

"What are you saying?"

"Doing things the right way isn’t always the smartest thing to do, you need the boy," Grace said sternly.

"How do you know about that?"

"Daniel told me about it. I care about my patients, you more than others, I failed your father, and I won’t fail you."

"I won’t take my son from his mother without her consent."

"You’re not gonna kill him for god’s sake!"

"It’s a dangerous process and I won’t put him through that without her consent!"

"What are your other options?" She yelled.

"I WON’T!!" I shouted and the room fell silent, she leaned back into her chair and began playing with a pen that lay on her desk.

"She has enough reasons to hate me, I’m not gonna add another to the list," I said as I rose from the chair and began walking out of the office but I stopped at the door.

"I’ll fix it." I said but every word I spoke was filled with uncertainty, I turned back to face and gently bowed "I’m really grateful for everything you’ve done" then I turned around and walked out of the room.
