Chapter 24: Chapter 24- Joke Of A Man

SIMON~

The loud screech of Gabriel Gaines’s chair being pushed back reverberated through the conference room as he stood to his feet slowly.

He walked around the tables, briefly looking at the face of whoever was at the chair he was behind before moving to the next person, after rounding the entirety of the table, he returned back to where he had started and smiled.

"Welcome, gentlemen." He greeted, his voice light with joy, it wasn’t a noticeable amount, but anyone who really knew Gabriel would immediately be able to differentiate it from his usual blank tone.

"Good news?" I inquired, curious as to what had put him in such a mood. His face brightened on hearing my question, and a large smile plastered across his lips.

"Great news." He answered and began to pace as he started his monologue, "Years and years, we’ve only been able to react as they ran around like they owned the world." I raised an eyebrow but didn’t interrupt as he continued to talk.

"They’ve killed innocents, they’ve made our streets bloody, and all we could do was sit and watch because we had no evidence." His smile turned to a grin as he paused.

"Today, we take a step in the right direction." Just as he said those words, the doors swung open, and a familiar face walked in.

"Welcome our new operative, Lucas Langdon." He announced as Lucas walked to his side, a sly smile plastered across his idiotic face, unable to hide my glee at the situation, I found myself grinning happily at his predictability. Lucas looked around the room and stopped at me for a few seconds. He peered at me as if trying to recognize me, but I remained calm.

He wouldn’t, not only was I unrecognizable, but my smell had changed. Werewolves could tell themselves apart from humans due to the unique smell we all had, so if a werewolf was among the people who sat around this table, Lucas would have been immediately able to tell.

All but thanks to my slight transformation that had altered my innate scent, I was hidden in plain sight. He took his eyes off me and looked at Gabriel, who still had on his victorious grin.

"Can I speak?" He asked proudly. Gabriel shifted his eyes to him, his grin fading, but he remained quiet as he took his hand off Lucas and stepped back.

"Go ahead."

"I’m the advisor to the alpha of Silver Hollow." Lucas Introduced himself confidently, I felt almost sorry for the joke of a man I was looking at; he probably thought he was being smart coming here, and he probably thought I wouldn’t think he’d go this far, but unfortunately, I thought so low of him that I always knew this was well within the realm of possibility. He continued his introduction.

"I have been an advisor for 9 years, so I know the ins and outs of the pack, and I was once the beta at Howlcreek, so I also know how they operate, I have—"

"Why should we trust a piece of garbage like you who betrays his kind?" I interjected, intentionally interrupting his mind-numbing introduction, his jaw tightened, and he was offended by my insult.

"Cause I’m your only hope at controlling them," he answered angrily.

"If you’d betray your pack, which is a large family, what’s stopping you from betraying us," I asked again, he flinched inwardly but tried his best to remain calm.

"Cause I have more to gain here than there," he answered again, not hiding his selfish motives, I looked past him and saw Gabriel’s face twist with disgust as he stepped forward.

"I don’t trust him, but as you all know, any spy we’ve sent into the packs has been immediately discovered and killed, we can’t keep sending good men to their deaths, so if we have a willing informant, we’ll take what we can get, cause like it or not he is our only hope," Gabriel explained, there were several mumbles throughout the room, but they all understood it had to be done.

"Good." Gabriel said as the room fell into silence, "We know that Damon Torrence is the Alpha of Howlcreek, that much is common knowledge, we know the kind of man he is, But the same can’t be said for the Alpha of Silver Hollow, we don’t know his name, what he looks like or what he’s capable of, all we know is what they call him, ’The saint.’ At least that’s all we knew." He took a step back, and Lucas once again had the floor, and in his hand was a file, he placed the file on the table and opened it, and I wasn’t shocked to see my photos from different angles, a close-up, full body, every possible angle was displayed but still I had expected this much.

"He is Simon Reverend, known to few as the perfect wolf, his abilities exceed any other werewolf existing, he has complete mastery of the form, and as someone who has seen his pure wolf firsthand, I can honestly say this: you don’t stand a chance. Unlike Damon, he is a ruthless man who would do anything for the sake of his goals and would stop at nothing to see them through.

His only weakness is his Beta ’Leonardo Jacob.’ He raised him and made him who he is, so Simon sees him like a son and is the closest thing he has to family." So far, I had expected every word that left Lucas’s mouth, but still, the mention of Leo bothered me.

"If you wanna beat him, you’d have to do things your families would shun you for—are you ready to go that far to win?" Lucas asked the men who sat around the table.

"If getting shunned is the price of my family’s safety, then I don’t mind." James Feigus said from his seat, causing the rest of them to mumble in agreement, a smile curled the sides of my lips as I heard them.

"You underestimate our resentment towards your kind," Gabriel said and looked around the table. "the earth belongs to us, not them, I think it’s time we make it clear."

"All to be expected." I thought as I looked at Gabriel.
