Alpha Damon's Greatest Regret -
Chapter 115- Shock
Chapter 115: Chapter 115- Shock
Damon’s pov.
I went back to sleep instantly after I had thought about the dream.
I didn’t want to think much about it because it could just make me regret my life, regret everything that had happened.
I rubbed my face and got ready for the day.
Thankfully the pills hadn’t worked more than making me feel dizzy.
I could still feel the dream—Zarah laughing, our son cuddling in my arms, and the abrupt darkness that engulfed them.
Rubbing my hands over my face I forced myself to stand. That had seemed so real Too genuine. More than the memory hurting my heart, a piercing thought took root in my chest.
I would track them down. I knew that something was wrong but if someone had handed them someplace, I would have rescued them and set the place on fire these were just mere assumptions though and I prayed that it didn’t happen.
I exhaled slowly and swung my legs over the edge of the bed. Even though my fatigue from the previous evening had subsided I could still taste whatever Trixie had added to my drink.
I had no time to waste but my body needed to heal.
I got up undressed and made my way to the restroom. As I stepped under the shower’s hot spray, steam rose all around me. My muscles relaxed due to the heat which also removed the lingering effects of my sleep.
But the uneasiness persisted.
Something wasn’t quite right.
Trixies deception, the dream, the sensation that I was being watched by someone who was moving pieces on a board that I couldn’t yet see.
Before turning it off, I clenched my jaw and let the water run over me for a few more minutes.
I went through my wardrobe looking for something suitable to wear until I found one, as I walked down the stairs, the smell of food drifted into my nose.
A servant rushed forward.
"Your breakfast Alpha is ready."
Taking a seat at the long dining table I nodded. The grilled steak, mashed potatoes, and buttered vegetables were all on the plate in front of me.
Usually, I ate rapidly and didn’t really consider the taste. However, I took my time today letting the food calm my nerves.
Then halfway through the meal a servant tentatively came forward.
"Alpha," she muttered. "Carlos is here for you."
Carlos?
I quickly stood up after using a napkin to wipe my mouth.
"Where is he?."
"Alpha, in the main hall. "
I walked out of the dining room without saying anything more. I saw him the moment I walked into the hall.
As usual, Carlos stood close to the entrance looking strong despite his weariness. When he saw me his dark eyes glowed and a smile tugged at his lips.
"Damon," he said as he moved forward. My tiredness gave way to a rare smile as I tightly gripped his arm.
"Carlos."
Despite everything I was glad to see him after sending him on his mission weeks earlier. He was not just my beta, he was also my best friend.
Carlos’ smile faded a little as he studied me.
"You look awful."
I chuckled softly and shook my head. "You’re clueless."
Carlos laughed and I laughed with him too but I saw that there was something else.
I rubbed the back of my neck as I let out a breath. "Unusual things had happened."
His face grew serious.
"This must really be serious."
"It’s more serious than you think," I said as we walked into my study.
It was safer to speak here because I wasn’t even safe anymore in my own packhouse.
"It’s a long story but Doctor Grace said I needed a companion and Daniel got one for me but she ended up betraying me."
Carlos’s gaze widened.
"What? "
"She gave me a drug, it sought to make me weaker. She is being used by someone but she is too naive to recognize that she is only a pawn."
I paused and let out a sharp breath.
"I put her in the dungeons."
Carlos scowled as he crossed his arms. "And she acknowledged that she had a partner?"
I nodded. "She said she was assisting a person who was close to me. Someone who wants to move me aside and get the position of Alpha. "
"This is bad," Carlos muttered to himself. "Who do you think is involved in this?"
My stomach turned over.
" I am not sure." However, I paused before looking him in the eye. "Last night I had a dream. "
Carlos gave a slight tilt to his head. "A dream?"
"It felt real." I muttered." There was Zarah and our son. They vanished after some time as if they were torn from me, we were happy."
My fists formed as I curled my fingers I had this feeling of pain in my chest when I woke up. As if it weren’t merely a dream."
Carlos took a long time to examine me.
" Damon," Carlos said cautiously. I arrived here today for that reason. It was my responsibility to bring them back just as you instructed."
My breath hitched. He grimaced as he shook his head.
" But they have vanished."
There was a chilly silence between us.
Vanished.
The word became heavy and merciless as it sank into my bones.
Carlos continued in a solemn low voice. "I asked questions and it led me to a small town but then she wasn’t there. No trace, no scent.
My jaw tightened.
"She received assistance from someone and left."
I turned my back breathing through the storm that was building inside my chest. Zarah?
Gone?
So strange.
And now someone was trying to make me weaker. My dream was more than just a fantasy. It was a message. My voice was low and full of assurance as I turned back to Carlos.
"We will find them."
Carlos gave an affirmative nod.
"And when we do? I won’t think twice. Anyone who gets in our way would be destroyed."
