Alpha Damon's Greatest Regret -
Chapter 110- Answer Me
Chapter 110: Chapter 110- Answer Me
Damon’s pov
There was no need to hide and wait, it was better to take action now, catch her red-handed.
As I entered the room I could hear the faint sound of a phone call. Trixie had her phone pressed firmly against her ear with her back to me.
I felt cold just looking at the tension in her posture. Something had gone wrong. My heart was beating faster than usual when I stopped. Even though I didn’t mean to interrupt I couldn’t help but feel that what she was saying was very important. Or perhaps it was just her. As if she were concealing something. She had been sent to monitor me.
"Trixie?." I said in a low voice so as not to come across as accusing. But I was powerless to stop it. I had an instinct that I had to find out what was happening. Her body went cold. She nearly lost her grip on the phone but she quickly got it back and turned around as if nothing had happened.
However, I saw the slight trembling of her hand before she slipped it into her purse. With a perfect mask of calm on her face she turned slowly and said.
"Alpha Damon."
But by this point, I knew her too well. Something flickered in her eyes maybe fear and then it was gone. She did a good job of concealing it but not well enough. "I thought you said you wanted to answer a call?"
I took a moment to respond to her question. Rather I studied her every action keeping my eyes fixed on her. Even though her voice was steady, there was an undertone that bothered me, and her lips were pressed into a tight line.
With a steady tone and a hint of suspicion, I said. "I heard you on the phone, who were you speaking to?."
Trixie looked down at her feet and then looked up at me once more. She spoke a bit too hastily when she said.
"It was nothing. Just a few work-related items." She smiled.
Not that I believed her. Not for a moment. "Work stuff?" I said again as I moved in closer. "Trixie you don’t have to keep anything from me."
Her eyes darted away and she felt the slightest chill. I saw it but it was hardly noticeable. She tried to dismiss it as though it didn’t matter but it did matter. Something unsaid was lingering in the air between us thick and heavy.
With a slightly sharp voice, she said and rolled her eyes.
"I’m not hiding anything." She tried to touch my arm but I moved back. "You are just tired."
"I don’t think so," I said in a low voice, and this time I allowed the words to fully sink in. If she didn’t want to discuss it I had to force her.
That look was familiar to me. She seemed to be holding something back by clenching her jaw. However, she was not getting away with it. Not now.
"You’re lying before," I said I couldn’t stop myself. I couldn’t resist. The worry and the frustration all boiled up inside of me.
"I can see it in your eyes."
"I swear, Alpha Damon. It’s nothing I don’t know what you are talking about. I told you before that it’s just work."
I stared at her and wondered what kind of work someone like her would be involved in.
She mumbled.
" I don’t want to involve you in this. You see Damon it’s dangerous. You may also be in danger if I tell you. You have no idea what you’re asking for."
" I don’t like the games you are playing and I don’t want to repeat myself one more time."
I wanted to laugh at how absurd the whole situation was, of how she thought that I was nothing but a fool.
Was this something she was doing with someone close to me?
Daniel?
Mark?
Or was it someone else?
It looked like something was going on, something I couldn’t place my fingers on but I knew that Daniel, my beta couldn’t be part of it.
"Come on, Alpha Damon." She purred and came closer to me and pouted her lips giving me the puppy face which I hated instantly. "Come on, I was just talking to someone.". She tried to touch me and I stepped back.
"Don’t you dare," I said in a calm voice but I couldn’t deny the anger rising in me, tugging at the corners of my chest.
"One of my friends tried calling me, telling me that there are lots of customers." She said and gave me a coy look and snapped on her chewing gum.
She smiled.
"But I told her to tell the manager that I was with someone so important and I won’t be coming to work.".
I knew that she could do something like this, I already knew she was a slut but what I can’t place my fingers on was who had brought her to Daniel or where Daniel had seen her.
"Who the hell are you?" I growled, she looked up at me to play those games again but she froze immediately.
She tried to come closer and acted without thinking, my hands fell in the air and sliced across her cheeks.
She stumbled back in shock but she remained silent. She searched my face as if deciding whether or not to believe me. After a long pause, she said I’m not asking you to protect me. However, I do not want you to be involved in this. It’s larger than the two of us. My mind was racing and my heart was thumping in my chest.
This was dangerous whatever it was. Whatever it was, she and whoever she was talking with wouldn’t get out of this scot-free.
Planning something against the alpha and the pack was treason and the punishment was death by hanging.
Rather I stood there and silently hoped she would believe me. I had to think she would. As we remained silent though I couldn’t get rid of the thought that I had to end this once and for all.
