Alpha Damon's Greatest Regret
Chapter 100- Bound By Duty

Chapter 100: Chapter 100- Bound By Duty

Damon’s pov

" That is not possible," I told Dr. Grace, shaking my head as if I could dismiss her words.

I didn’t need to hear it again I didn’t need to hear about some stranger, some other woman coming to be by my side.

What for?

She had better think of something else.

" You’re asking the unimaginable, " I added, my voice a little harsher than I intended. I felt the weight of her eyes on me, watching, calculating, like she was trying to find some weakness in me.

I wasn’t like the others. The ones who could just move on, find someone else, as if the bond with their true mate could simply fade down and be replaced.

No. I was Alpha Damon. I don’t bow to fate. I don’t give in.

Grace stood there, unyielding. " You don’t have a choice, Damon. However, you’ll lose everything, If you don’t. You’ll lose your strength, your wolf, your pack. Your bond with Zarah might be fading, but that doesn’t mean you have to let it go fully. It will get to a stage where you will bleed."

I didn’t want to hear it. The thought of another woman, another bond, it made my stomach turn.

" Fine, " I eventually murmured, frustration burning in my chest. " I’ll think about it. "

She didn’t look convinced. But she didn’t argue either. She left me alone with my thoughts

And as soon as she was gone, the weight of her words settled like a stone in my stomach

Zarah.

I closed my eyes, flashing back to her. It’s been years and I know it was all my fault.

I had known, the moment I first met her, that she was the one. She had come to the center of my world, everything I had ever wanted.

But now?

Now she was gone.

I didn’t know what I was hoping for, perhaps a miracle, perhaps some way out of this agony.

I wasn’t even sure why I was heading toward the training grounds. perhaps I just needed to get away from my thoughts

for a little while, away from everything.

But as soon as I stepped into the clearing, I saw Daniel. My Beta.

A small smile played at the corners of his mouth like he already knew something was out.

" What’s up, Alpha Damon? " he asked, his tone light, but there was a sharpness in his eyes that I knew well. He could always read me, better than anyone else.

" Don’t start with me, Daniel, " I murmured, shaking my head. " I’m not in the mood. "

He didn’t stop.

He pushed off the hedge and stepped near, his grin widening. " I can tell something is bothering you. "

I glared at him and exhaled.

" What happened? " he asked. " The doctor says something that pissed you off?"

I ran a hand through my hair, trying to keep my anger low. " Yeah, you could say that. "

" What did she tell you? "

I was silent for a long moment. Should I tell Daniel?

" I’m losing my bond, " I said, the words slipping out before I could stop them. " I won’t be able to bond with anyone."

Daniel’s expression shifted, the lightness in his eyes fading into something more serious. " You’re sure? "

I nodded. " The bond is decaying. Every day it feels like I’m losing myself more and more. And I’m helpless to stop it. "

He didn’t say anything for a moment, he stepped closer, clapping a hand on my shoulder. " That sucks, Damon. But I’m not gonna lie to you, man. I’ve seen this. Packs can’t survive without a strong Alpha. If your bond breaks fully " He let the words hang in the air.

" Yeah, " I murmured. " I know. I’ll lose everything. "

The thought made my chest tighten. It was like a constant pressure, suffocating me. The weight of what I stood to lose was too great to bear.

" So, what are you gonna do about it? " Daniel asked, his voice low but laced with a hint of amusement, as he’d already figured out something I hadn’t.

" I don’t know, " I said, feeling the frustration rise in my chest again. " Grace said I need to find a companion. A young woman, someone who could bond with me, keep my wolf alive. "

Daniel raised an eyebrow, a grin tugging at his lips. " A companion? You mean, like a —" he raised his brows up mischievously.

I frowned. " Yeah, enough much. "

" Well, man, that’s a tough call. I can’t imagine just jumping into a new bond after everything you’ve been through with Zarah. "

" Exactly, " I growled. " It feels wrong. I don’t know if I can do it. It’s like — " I broke, trying to find the right words. " It’s like betraying her. "

Daniel’s grin faded, replaced by a further thoughtful look. " Yeah. I get it. But hey, you know what they say better to have a backup than end up wedged, right? "

I shot him a dark look. " Not helping. "

But Daniel didn’t get it.

He just sighed and stepped back, crossing his arms. " Look, Damon. I know you’re failing. But you don’t have a choice. Do you want to keep your pack? Do you want to keep your strength? You’ve gotta do what it takes. "

I could hear the truth in his words, even if I didn’t like them.

" Well, you’re just full of advice at this moment, huh? " I murmured.

" Hey, someone’s got ta be the voice of reason around here. " Daniel’s grin reappeared, a mischievous glint in his eyes. " And lucky for you, I have a clue. "

I raised an eyebrow. " A clue? "

" Yeah, man. I’ll get you a fine chick, " he said, winking at me like he was joking, but he was serious.

" A chick, huh? " I said, shaking my head, the weight of the situation sinking in. " Yeah, I guess that’s one way to put it. "

He chortled. " Hey, don’t say I did try to help. I’ll figure something out. "

I looked at him, a tired smile tugging at my lips despite everything. " Thanks, man. I suppose I might need you to. "
