Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Meeting the Parents for the 1st Time
"Go!" The prison guard, seeing that the prisoner wouldn’t move, got a little angry and shouted hastily.
The prisoner glanced up at him, didn’t say a word, and just walked forward leisurely, as though he weren’t a prisoner but rather the boss here.
In the interrogation room, Yan Zhen Guo sat calmly in a chair, with the prison guard beside him.
Shortly after, the prison guard brought the prisoner in. The guard sitting next to Yan Zhen Guo greeted him, then stood up and walked out.
However, before leaving, he firmly handcuffed the prisoner’s hands to the table and his ankles to the chair.
The prisoner stretched his wrists unwillingly and said, "Do you guys think this is reasonable? Handcuffing my hands and feet like this, do you really think I’m a terrorist?"
People here rarely encountered the foreign term "terrorist." The prison guard glanced at him, closed the door, and said, "Captain, you only have half an hour. Please make the most of it."
Yan Zhen Guo nodded and said, "I don’t need half an hour, three minutes is enough."
"Three minutes? Are you sure the matter you want to discuss with me can be cleared up in three minutes?" The thug cockily glanced at the prison guard outside as the guard turned around to close the door without speaking.
The thug saw the guard ignoring him, puckered his lips, and then grinned at Yan Zhen Guo, "Mr. Big Leader, what do you want to talk to me about?"
Yan Zhen Guo faintly glanced at him, "Do you still remember what happened in the Capital ten years ago?"
"Ten years ago... B City..." The thug thought for a moment and then looked at Yan Zhen Guo with wide eyes.
Just as Yan Zhen Guo thought he remembered something, the thug winked at Yan Zhen Guo, "I thought you were here to bail me out, maybe to discuss some sort of payoff?"
Hearing this, Yan Zhen Guo’s expression became more serious, and he said solemnly, "Anyone scheduled for execution cannot be bailed out."
The word "execution" didn’t pose a threat to the thug; over the years, he’d committed many heinous crimes, never caught—until this time when the military got involved and caught him in one swoop.
As for the verdict and whatnot, he wasn’t interested. All pathways led to a single outcome. Not understanding the law, he heard a certain quantity of drug trafficking would get one executed... None of that mattered; he had more than enough money and had lived it up. Life worth living!
Nevertheless, looking at the neatly dressed, serious man opposite him, recalling the man’s words, ten years ago was when he first started making a name in the Capital, he got inexplicably nabbed... spent two or three years in prison before released. Experience told him this might be his only lifeline!
"I know what you want to know." The man’s brow relaxed; he wasn’t afraid at all looking at Yan Zhen Guo, "I know about the matter."
"Where did you take her? There were only a bunch of punks at the street gate then. Nobody else." Yan Zhen Guo frowned in response to the thug’s words, his voice lowering.
The thug laughed, "Was she your sweetheart? Ten years ago, we had plenty of pretty young gals around, and there was one particularly beautiful... quiet one."
"Cut the crap! Tell me, where is she?" Yan Zhen Guo quickened his speech a bit.
The thug tugged at his hand, finding them still handcuffed, and he moved the cuffs, "If you get me out, telling you where she is? I’ll have her come to see you right away!"
So, he was laying in wait.
"Get you out?" Yan Zhen Guo raised an eyebrow.
The thug, thinking Yan Zhen Guo was agreeing, nodded quickly, "Yes, as long as you get me out, I’ll surely..."
"You better stay here." Yan Zhen Guo briskly stood, walked out, leaving the thug alone in the interrogation room to shout and scream.
Outside, Yan Zhen Guo looked at the sky through the iron window as the prison guard approached him, "Captain, did you get the answers?"
He faintly nodded, thinking that this thug, sentenced to death, was not easy to crack. He might have to start somewhere else. This time, he acted on impulse, came unprepared to ask.
"Ha..." Yan Zhen Guo chuckled self-deprecatingly.
Meanwhile, Gu Fuqiao, at home, was worried, unsure if she was pregnant. Planning to ask Old Mrs. Gu at the Gu Family tomorrow, she just woke up from a nap and was about to draft other writing when the door outside suddenly knocked.
She walked to the door in her slippers.
"Bajin, you’re here?" Usually, only Chen Bajin would knock, so Gu Fuqiao sleepily opened the door. Seeing Mr. Yan Senior and An Ran spiritedly standing outside, she paused for two seconds.
"Uncle Yan, this is the wife." An Ran glanced at Gu Fuqiao and then walked forward, speaking to Mr. Yan Senior.
Her mind raced; she’d seen An Ran, hearing from An Ran, this must be Yan Zhen Guo’s father! Yan Zhen Guo should be about thirty, and his father being older seemed normal.
In her novel’s design, Yan Zhen Guo was genuinely a promising research staff, his father certainly a big leader.
Gu Fuqiao quickly recovered, raised her hand in salute, "Good day, Director!"
Mr. Yan Senior had a favorable impression of this cultured and reasonable girl. Seeing her gesture, he felt more satisfied—this daughter-in-law seemed sensible, unlike his mischievous son who often opposed him!
"Don’t be so formal, just call me Dad." Mr. Yan Senior’s face softened, but being a battle-hardened old general, his demeanor remained severe.
Yet, Gu Fuqiao sensed Mr. Yan Senior probably had a good impression of her. She nodded lightly, "Dad, you and An Ran please come in and sit!"
An Ran also didn’t expect, a frail-looking girl like Gu Fuqiao upon first meeting the chief-of-staff didn’t get frightened, or tongue-tied.
After An Ran and Mr. Yan Senior sat down, Gu Fuqiao fetched water from the kitchen and sliced a bought watermelon. Though it was her first meeting with the man’s family, a bit inexperienced, she thought, being married... treat Yan Zhen Guo’s parents like her own should be fine. That’s certainly right; although Mr. Yan Senior appeared stern, she liked him! He seemed like her imagined father.
