Chapter 177: Chapter 177 Ignorance

Xie Xinghua’s anxiety escalated in an instant, as she grabbed Biaozi’s sleeve, her eyes filled with urgency, "Where is my daughter? Tell me!"

Su Yu intervened timely, reminding Biaozi with a calm yet sharp tone, "It’s the girl you just acquired today, remember?"

Biaozi forced a strained smile, attempting to be vague, "Here in Clear Water Town, the buying and selling of people happen often, I dare not speculate which girl the lady is referring to."

Off to the side, Lady Zhao’s mouth corners revealed a cold smile, seemingly confident in her own strategy.

However, this brief complacency was soon shattered.

Quick as a blink, Su Yu pulled Lady Zhao to the front, her words revealing an undeniable force, "Today, it was this woman who sold a girl to you, tell me, where is the girl now?"

Biaozi pretended to furrow his brows, as if deep in thought, and then patted his head, feigning innocence, "Ah, I’m really bad at remembering people, I’m sorry, I cannot recall who you’re talking about."

His acting might have been poor, but it was enough to stabilize the situation momentarily, ramping up the tension in the air.

"Then, what about the person you bought? We can recognize her ourselves."

Xie Xinghua’s voice carried a hint of urgency and tremble, as if each word was fighting to restrain the anxiety and anger inside her.

Biaozi’s face showed full apology, his eyes darting evasively, "The deals I make are all for quick turnovers. Those people, alas, they’re quickly passed on after only a short stay in my hands."

Hearing this, Xie Xinghua’s eyes moistened instantly, tears rolling down like pearls off a string, her choking full of despair and unwillingness towards an unknown fate.

Su Yu pondered for a moment, her expression exuding a decisive air that was impossible to ignore, "Then the person who received her, do you know who it is? Can you introduce us?"

Biaozi shook his head helplessly, his expression a mixture of helplessness and caution, "Not clear, the buyers change often, sometimes they’re new faces, sometimes they’re those familiar features, today it just happens to be a new face I’ve never seen before."

The thing they in this trade fear the most is the trafficked individuals being tracked down by their original owners, bringing endless trouble and entanglement. Thus, he naturally wouldn’t easily reveal any information that could bring disaster upon him.

Su Yu understood this well; on the surface, Biaozi’s answers seemed frank and direct, but in reality, his words were watertight, with each sentence carefully crafted like a feint, difficult to capture any substantive clues.

So, Su Yu asked again, her voice carrying an inescapable chill, "Then where are the people you buy usually sent to?"

Biaozi employed his slick answering tactics once more, "There are many destinations. Those with exceptional looks tend to be sent to places of pleasure and brothels, those less attractive might become maids or servants in the households of the wealthy, and some even become concubines to the powerful. In short, wherever there’s market demand, that’s where they are sent."

His words were filled with casual indifference, as if the entire world was the destination for his goods, yet it made it impossible for anyone to trace the whereabouts, extremely cunning.

However, Su Yu was not blindsided by this evasiveness.

She smirked derisively, her movements suddenly accelerating like a Spiritual Snake darting out of its hole, instantly grabbing Biaozi’s arm, a slight twist, and Biaozi’s massive body fell to the ground without any resistance.

While Biaozi was still immersed in shock and pain, Su Yu’s fingers clenched his like iron tongs, suddenly bending them backwards.

Biaozi screamed in agony, his muscles tensed, but under Su Yu’s strong grip, he was unable to move, like a fierce beast trapped in a snare.

Zheng Jun watched, wide-eyed and agape, never having imagined that such a delicate-looking woman could subdue a strong man in such a brisk and efficient manner.

Despite having some acquaintance with Biaozi, Zheng Jun also noticed the other party’s evasive answers, and thus he chose to remain silent and watch how things would unfold.

In contrast, Lady Zhao was accustomed to Su Yu’s martial prowess, but seeing Biaozi struggling on the ground still caused a few threads of worry to sprout in her heart, concerned that the situation might spiral out of control.

Xie Xinghua had felt dizzy as soon as Biaozi mentioned those indulgent places and the life of a concubine, nearly losing her balance were it not for Zheng Jun’s timely support preventing her from falling.

To Lady Zhao, however, all of this was like a sharp thorn; she internally cursed and looked down on such quick moves to find new love so soon after a husband’s death, regarding such behavior as utterly promiscuous and heartless.

Su Yu showed no mercy because of Biaozi’s screams, instead, she increased the pressure, slowly twisting his fingers toward the back of his hand, with each passing second intensifying his agony.

Biaozi’s screams grew more and more pathetic, but he still stubbornly maintained his defiance: "I really don’t know!"

"Is that so?"

There was an undeniable force in Su Yu’s voice, and with it, she applied even more pressure, and Biaozi’s cries for help became increasingly desperate.

"I’m giving you one last chance, tell me everything you know. Where were those people sent? Who is in charge of receiving them? Otherwise, you won’t need your hand anymore!"

Lady Zhao could not bear to watch any longer. She turned her head away, fully aware that any foolish move in this test of strength might ensnare her too.

Ultimately, Biaozi could no longer endure such inhumane torture and collapsed into cries: "Ah, I’ll talk, I’ll talk! Please, let me go!"

Su Yu slightly relaxed the pressure on her hand, her gaze piercing: "Speak."

This command, heavy as a hammer, shattered the last line of defense within Biaozi’s heart, forcing him to face reality and spill the truth.

In the brief silence, fine beads of sweat began to seep across Biaozi’s forehead, anxiety and unease weaving into a complex web across his rugged features.

His eyes wandered uncertainly under Su Yu’s steady gaze, as if seeking a sliver of escape.

"I really don’t know the person who meets them, but they ultimately end up in the hands of a cunning old child broker in Ning County, a woman who specializes in dispatching people far and wide, for the selection of wealthy patrons. I only know the destination is Ning County; as for the specific whereabouts of that child broker, I truly know nothing."

Between his words, his voice trembled slightly, betraying the fear and despair within.

In just a short moment, Biaozi’s face was soaked with sweat, looking especially pathetic.

"I’ve told you all I know, please let me go."

He whispered, nearly pleading.

Upon hearing this, Su Yu slowly released her tight grip, pulled out a clean white handkerchief from her sleeve, and indifferently wiped the specks of dust from her fingers, her eyes full of disdain and coldness, as if reproaching him for not confessing sooner.

Although she and Biaozi were strangers, there was always a sense of inexplicable familiarity about him.
