Chapter 175: Chapter 175 Will Surely Be Safe

His tone was firm and brooked no argument, vowing to salvage the situation of a family on the brink of collapse.

"For that money-losing girl, you, you’re actually going to divorce me?"

Lady Zhao’s face was etched with disbelief, her eyes filled with shock, as if she had heard the most inconceivable thing in the world.

"You try and see."

Jiang Xunzhong’s words lacked any warmth, decisive and cold, each word like a sharp blade, cutting through Lady Zhao’s heart.

Deep down, he did not truly wish to abandon Lady Zhao; it was merely a tactic to intimidate her into redeeming the person.

After all, they had walked hand in hand for so many years, and life, though challenging, had to be managed together.

Was he really to spend the rest of his life alone and destitute? The thought made a flicker of undetectable sorrow pass through Jiang Xunzhong’s brow.

In the blink of an eye, another Dragon Boat Festival arrived. Alas, what sort of situation was this!

In the eyes of the villagers, Jiang Xunzhong’s resolve appeared especially vigorous, and their opinion of him greatly improved, going from previously mundane to now admiring him in secret.

Lady Zhao was indeed frightened by this sudden threat. Being past her fifties, being divorced again would undoubtedly make her the laughingstock of the village.

Furthermore, since the untimely death of their only son, Dazhuang was the sole seedling left in the family, and the entire lineage of the Jiang Family rested upon him. She could not leave this family no matter what.

Lately, her husband Jiang Xunzhong’s behavior had been very strange. As long as she showed the slightest unkindness to Xie Xinghua and her daughter, she would face his stern reprimand and even today, he had resorted to violence.

Lady Zhao knew in her heart that maybe this time he would indeed make the decision to divorce her.

Well, since the girl had already been sold by her, now she could only pretend to comply. Whether she could successfully redeem her or not, that would be left to the future to tell.

Lady Zhao’s tone softened, trying to explain, "I had no other choice; the household is struggling, thinking Daya has grown a bit, it might help the family expenses if she found some work outside..."

"Daya is only ten years old, how can your heart be so cruel?"

Xie Xinghua’s words carried both anger and pain—she was the child she had borne after ten months of pregnancy.

Lady Zhao was about to retort but swallowed her words upon catching Jiang Xunzhong’s stern look.

Jiang Xunzhong continued, "Whoever you sold her to, redeem her tomorrow under the original conditions."

"Fine."

Lady Zhao agreed readily, but Xie Xinghua’s heart was still fraught with unease.

Despite her father-in-law’s intervention, her daughter Daya was after all a fragile girl, and once she left home, the dangers of the outside world were unpredictable—who could foresee?

With this in mind, Xie Xinghua anxiously said, "That won’t do, we must redeem Daya tonight."

"Now? It’s already late, the market has long dispersed, where am I to find the person for you?"

Lady Zhao was displeased inside, but due to Jiang Xunzhong’s presence, she had to hold back her anger.

"No matter who you sold her to, you must take me there now. If anything happens to Daya, we are far from done!"

Determination flickered in Xie Xinghua’s eyes, allowing no room for negotiation.

Lady Zhao’s pleading gaze turned to Jiang Xunzhong, awaiting his judgment.

Jiang Xunzhong pondered for a moment, then slowly spoke, "Da Ya is after all a girl, and it’s ultimately not safe for her to be outside at night. If we can find her tonight, that would be best, and Xinghua would be able to rest much easier."

Before Lady Zhao could respond, Su Yu had already taken the lead, "Good, my carriage is parked outside right now; we can leave immediately to search for her in town."

Xie Xinghua’s steps were hurried, slightly staggering, as she nearly dashed towards the door at the fastest speed, only to come to an abrupt halt at the threshold.

A gleam of determination flashed in her eyes as she turned to look at Jiang Xunzhong, her speech rapid yet lucid, "Today’s sudden tumult has depended entirely on your taking charge. I’ll have to trouble you to look after Changping and the two young girls at home for the time being. The moment I find Da Ya, I’ll return immediately."

Once she finished speaking, an unmistakable firmness glittered in her eyes.

Jiang Xunzhong’s demeanor was calm as he nodded slightly, a warm glow in his eyes, "Go in peace, I’ll take care of the home, there’s no need for worry."

Seeing this, Su Yu could not stand idly by.

She turned her head towards Jiang Ziling, her eyes filled with hesitation, as if she had something to say but held back.

Without waiting for her to speak, Jiang Ziling seemed to have already perceived her concern, and with a slight smile, nodded, "Go quickly, we can’t delay on this matter. Da Ya’s safety is of utmost importance."

Jiang Ziling felt a deep anxiety burning inside him; Da Ya was so clever and pretty, beyond the ordinary. If she fell into wicked hands, the consequences would be unbearable.

He couldn’t help but feel a surge of pity for Su Yu, having just been wed and not yet having had a moment of peace before she had to rush out once more.

Jiang Ziling silently prayed that his legs would heal soon, so that no matter what storms might hit their home, he could be the one to face them, and Su Yu would not have to toil so much.

As the rest learned that they were about to go out and search, many reached out to help, working together to remove the items from Su Yu’s carriage one by one.

A few kind-hearted elder women surrounded Xie Xinghua, their words full of concern and encouragement, "Don’t worry, the child will surely return safely."

Xie Xinghua’s eyes brimmed with tears, glistening on the edge of her eyelashes as she forced a grateful smile and nodded in response.

In her heart, there was only one thought: she must find Da Ya, no matter what it took.

Though Lady Zhao was reluctant, she had no choice but to step onto the carriage.

Even though Su Yu drove the carriage as if it were flying, by the time they reached the town, the sky had been tinged with the deep blue of night, and the market had long dispersed, leaving the streets particularly empty and quiet.

Lady Zhao sighed, her shoulders slumping slightly, her tone laced with helplessness, "Look at the time, there’s not a soul on the streets; where am I supposed to start looking?"

Xie Xinghua stared at the desolate street, her heart felt as though it had plunged into an ice cellar, and in an instant, rage surged to the top. She suddenly raised her hand and fiercely slapped Lady Zhao’s face, her voice filled with pain and anger, "You heartless woman, if anything happens to Da Ya, I’ll never let you off the hook!"

That slap had drained nearly all of Xie Xinghua’s strength, leaving Lady Zhao dizzy and disoriented for a moment.

Just as Lady Zhao thought to retaliate, Su Yu swiftly drew the jade hairpin from her hair and pressed its cold edge against Lady Zhao’s neck. A bone-chilling sensation instantly spread throughout Lady Zhao’s body, freezing any rash actions she might have considered.

Su Yu’s voice was as cold and sharp as the harshest winter wind, piercing through Lady Zhao’s eardrums, "To whom exactly was Da Ya sold? What is the buyer’s name and where does he live? Think carefully and tell me truthfully."

Lady Zhao, although frightened, deep down still did not believe Su Yu would actually harm her.

Her lips quivered as she stammered out her defense, "The man, I met him by chance on the street, I really don’t know his name or where he lives, even if you kill me it’s of no use."

Hearing this, Xie Xinghua’s tears fell like pearls snapped from a string, and a sense of despair swelled in her like a tide.
