After Breaking Off the Engagement, I Started Pursuing My Master -
Chapter 221 - Loneliness
Chapter 221: Loneliness
The Luo Yueguan in front of him suddenly reminded Jiang Huai of Luo Qingyu.
When he first met Luo Qingyu, her temperament was also seemingly soft on the surface, as if she was easily lured away by a piece of candy. But during the years Jiang Huai spent with Luo Qingyu, her personality also became somewhat quirky and stubborn.
Unlike Luo Yueguan, Luo Qingyu would be silent and motionless like a puppet when she was down, while Luo Yueguan was more like acting up, seeking some kind of stimulation that could cause ripples in her heart.
And his initial approach was actually very simple; he never forced Luo Qingyu to change anything according to his wishes. When Luo Qingyu was silent, he would quietly sit beside her, the two could sit motionless for a very long time, until Luo Qingyu suddenly whispered for a hug, then he would gently embrace her in his arms, as if holding a sister.
Just that simple.
He was never good at saying comforting words, nor did he ever think that anyone could save anyone else, or that anyone could be someone else’s redemption. Those were all children’s fantasies. People can only rely on themselves to move forward. If one prefers to stand still and hesitate, even if someone wants to drag you along, it’s just marking time.
Looking at Luo Yueguan’s tearful eyes, Jiang Huai couldn’t help but reflect again, were the words he said just now too arrogant?
The drizzle outside the window blurred the view, and the two in the room silently stared at each other.
Until Jiang Huai took out a new handkerchief and handed it to Luo Yueguan in front of him. He didn’t speak, and Luo Yueguan also took the handkerchief. After a moment, Jiang Huai scratched his head,
“What does Aunt Luo want for breakfast?”
“Glutinous rice cake.”
“That will have to wait until the evening, I need to soak the glutinous rice first. I’ll cook some noodles, will you eat?”
“Yes.”
So Jiang Huai stood up and left the room.
He gently closed the door, his footsteps hurried as if worried about leaving too slowly.
And after he finally left, Luo Yueguan buried herself in the quilt, and the intermittent sobbing came from under the covers.
...
When Luo Yueguan walked out of the room again, she had changed into a gorgeous light purple dress, her black hair was intricately braided, and the hair ornaments were exquisite and luxurious. As she moved, her dress fluttered, and a faint fragrance wafted through the air.
Her expression had returned to that lazy and noble demeanor, as if the woman who had cursed him in a low voice while crying earlier was just an illusion created by Jiang Huai. After the four of them had breakfast in the courtyard, Luo Yueguan led them to the Qingxuan Sect’s sword-fighting hall.
The stands for the Yuelan Continent competition had already been set up, and the disciples below were eagerly awaiting.
The news that Tianxuan Sect had a Divine Transformation first-level female cultivator had already spread far and wide, and many disciples were full of anticipation for the unseen Wen Wanwan. When Wen Wanwan appeared in front of the stage, many male cultivators were captivated, even though she was only in a plain white robe, her clear and elegant temperament was still hard to conceal.
Only Jiang Huai always felt that Wen Wanwan’s married woman flavor was getting stronger. Wen Wanwan, who was cold and gentle when they first met, seemed to be the same now, and only he could perceive these subtle changes. The competition was not over in one day. To ensure absolute fairness, the four of them had to compete with the three people, and Luo Yueguan personally presided over the drawing ceremony. In the first draw, it was Wen Wanwan against Luo Qingyu.
Jiang Huai watched the competition from below the stage. He was originally standing still until Luo Yueguan’s divine sense moved, making his neck feel chilly. He turned his head and realized that a spot next to Luo Yueguan was empty, and her eyes looked down at him from above. Jiang Huai immediately understood and hesitated for a while before sitting down next to her.
Wen Wanwan and Luo Qingyu had both stepped onto the stage, holding spirit swords, and their respective spirit seal flying swords were ready to strike behind them. Luo Yueguan glanced indifferently at Jiang Huai and asked,
“Who do you think will win?”
“Wanwan has a slightly better chance of winning.”
“Why?”
“I’ve practiced swordplay with Qingyu before. Her swordsmanship is quite ingenious, but unfortunately, she hasn’t had enough time to fully grasp it. However, Wanwan has already mastered all of Zilu True Person’s sword momentum.”
“Even though Qingyu is at the Divine Transformation fifth level, you still think Wanwan will win?”
“Yes.”
“Who do you hope will win more?” Luo Yueguan suddenly asked.
“Either one winning is fine, they won’t take it too seriously.”
Jiang Huai leaned back in his chair, looking towards the stands where the two girls stood, their spirit-imprinted flying swords buzzing behind them. In a flash, their figures turned into afterimages, leaving behind only the glow of burning spiritual energy.
Jiang Huai could clearly see the repeated clashes of their spirit swords. Wanwan’s spirit sword was of a higher grade than Qingyu’s, but she had much less spiritual energy. However, sword momentum is an existence that defies the rules. Clearly, they had agreed not to hold back before the match started, making this bout exceptionally thrilling.
Disciples below the stage gasped in amazement. As disciples of Qingxuan Sect, they naturally supported their own sect more. The match lasted for the duration of two incense sticks, and both young women had beads of sweat on their foreheads. In the end, Wen Wanwan took advantage of a momentary lapse in Luo Qingyu’s concentration, placing her sword across Qingyu’s neck. The faint spiritual energy from the sword’s edge left a shallow cut on her fair skin.
“Sister Wanwan is stronger than me,” Luo Qingyu said with a sweet smile as she sheathed her sword.
“You took advantage of the sword momentum. Qingyu must still have a lot of spiritual energy left, right?”
“Thirty percent.”
“I only have ten percent left,” Wen Wanwan replied softly.
“Then Sister Wanwan won,” Luo Qingyu said softly, and with the match decided, they both left the stage.
Now it was Jiang Huai’s turn to go up. He walked onto the stage, and his opponent arrived on a flying sword, wearing a dark blue robe. The spirit sword landed in his hand, and he looked at Jiang Huai with a slight frown, confusion in his eyes.
“With your lack of spiritual energy, how did you get here?”
“You’ll find out soon enough.”
Jiang Huai didn’t feel like explaining any further and simply drew his Ye Ning sword. He could fight without it, but using the sword would at least spare his opponent some embarrassment and save him some trouble.
“Ye Wanqiu, Divine Transformation first level, cultivates the Qingxuan Way of the Sword,” Ye Wanqiu said calmly.
Jiang Huai nodded.
“Jiang Huai, cultivates the Overlord Art, Tianxuan Thirteen Swords. Although I lack spiritual energy, I have immense physical strength. Be careful.”
“Alright.”
Ye Wanqiu drew his sword, and sword lights emerged around him. Jiang Huai raised his hand and calmly shattered the incoming sword qi with the edge of his Ye Ning sword, advancing step by step. His pace was steady, each step almost equal in distance. He dodged the scattered sword qi with strange movements. After counting seven breaths in his heart, Jiang Huai had reached Ye Wanqiu and swung his sword.
When Ye Wanqiu tried to block, he was hit by a tremendous force that made him stagger back many steps, while Jiang Huai kept advancing.
Ye Wanqiu’s spirit-imprinted flying sword stabbed towards Jiang Huai, its ethereal blade flashing with sharp cold light, but Jiang Huai simply swung his sword, and the flying sword shattered into a shower of sparks.
Ye Wanqiu was not ready to admit defeat and raised his hand again, splitting his spirit sword into two. Holding both swords, he leaped up, pushing his spiritual energy to the limit, his acupoints furiously circulating energy. He seemed to rise on the wind before falling sharply, sword light descending from the sky.
But Jiang Huai just raised his hand and swung his sword. The force fell on Ye Wanqiu’s twin swords, dissipating all his strength and nearly cracking his meridians. His arms trembled uncontrollably, unable to muster any strength, his blood boiling and a mouthful of hot blood swallowed back down.
He landed on the ground, his sword falling beside him. Jiang Huai stopped walking.
The stands were silent.
If the previous match between Wen Wanwan and Luo Qingyu was a display of their Way of the Sword, full of skill and endless exchanges, then this match was simply a case of overwhelming force.
The two were not on the same level, resulting in a one-sided crush.
Despite his reluctance, Ye Wanqiu saw the gap and after a moment bowed his head.
“I concede.”
Jiang Huai walked over, bent down to pick up his twin swords, and handed them back.
“Thank you.”
...
The first day of the competition ended like that.
The following days would see more matches, but Jiang Huai would face Luo Qingyu and then Wen Wanwan. He had no concerns left; he had fully grasped Ye Wanqiu’s strength and knew he posed no threat to either Wen Wanwan or Luo Qingyu.
For the remaining days, Jiang Huai could relax, treating his stay at Qingxuan Sect like a vacation.
Now in the courtyard at dusk, after dinner, Luo Qingyu took Wen Wanwan to the Qingxuan Sect’s Qingxuan Medicine Garden. Jiang Huai watched the two holding hands as they left, seemingly unaffected by the day’s match. He leaned back in his chair, glancing casually to the side where Luo Yueguan sat, her gaze fixed on the solitary moon in the sky, her profile exuding a cold and lonely air.
Out of curiosity, he checked Luo Yueguan’s current favorability towards him and saw the number was 70.
Jiang Huai wasn’t surprised. He had given up on the task of reaching a favorability of 93 within three days; it was clear he couldn’t achieve it. Perhaps the previous record high of 87 was because Luo Yueguan had gotten to know him better during a time when her Ice Soul Profound Body was fully healed, the Heavenly Evolution Divine Meridians was opened, and her relationship with Luo Qingyu was mending, leading to a good mood and a rise in her favorability towards him.
Now that everything was settling down, it was normal for her favorability to decrease again. After all, everyone knew that Qingxuan sect master Luo Yueguan disliked men and had never looked favorably upon any man.
Jiang Huai didn’t think he was the special one who could make Luo Yueguan develop feelings for him.
