Chapter 266: Chapter 266 The Long-Missed Taste of Love

Sheng Shaochen’s eyebrows knitted slightly as he reached out and scooped Ye Shu into his arms in one swift movement, as if no matter what card the opposition played, he was ready to bury them with a barrage of dog food.

Upon seeing this, Bai Yueru’s eyes involuntarily twitched a few times.

Her son’s attitude was crystal clear. With Mrs. Han pursuing them this aggressively, if they were to confront each other head-on, it would most likely be uncomfortable for both parties.

"Xiao Shu, I see that you’ve got dark circles under your eyes. You must not have slept well last night, right? Shaochen, why don’t you go back to bed with your wife for a little while?"

"..." Sheng Shaochen remained silent, bowing his head to stare at Ye Shu’s face, his gaze clearly communicating that it was all up to Mrs. Sheng to decide.

Ye Shu blushed under his gaze. At a time like this, she very much agreed with Bai Yueru’s approach; avoiding was the best solution to the problem.

Ye Shu flashed a smile at Bai Yueru, "Then, Aunt, Shaochen and I will head upstairs first."

"Alright, alright," Bai Yueru reassured Ye Shu with eyes that moistened with a hint of warmth.

Ye Shu was a child who was obedient, sensible, and knew the bigger picture, truly someone who tugged at her heartstrings.

Sheng Shaochen carried Ye Shu upstairs.

Watching their retreating figures, the moisture in Bai Yueru’s eyes intensified. She felt a deep sense of relief that her son had found such an excellent wife.

In them, she saw traces of love, long absent, beautiful and moving.

"Madam, should I go back and dismiss Mrs. Han?" Aunt Hua, seeing the situation, tentatively spoke up.

"No, please invite her in," Bai Yueru said as she took off her scarf and tidied her hair a bit, then she went downstairs.

Downstairs, Aunt Hua had already invited Mrs. Han into the hall.

The servants were brewing tea for Mrs. Han.

Mrs. Han was sitting on the sofa, glancing over at the staircase from time to time.

Upon seeing Bai Yueru descend, she immediately stood up, smiling warmly as she reached out and clasped Bai Yueru’s hand, "Good morning, Mrs. Sheng. I hope my early visit hasn’t disturbed your rest?"

Bai Yueru returned the greeting with a polite smile, "A guest at the door is always welcome. Please, have a seat, Mrs. Han."

"Thank you, thank you. It’s about time we sisters had a good chat," said Mrs. Han with a smile plastered on her face as she pulled Bai Yueru to sit down on the sofa together.

Bai Yueru awkwardly withdrew her hand from Mrs. Han’s grasp and, in the process, smoothed down a lock of hair at her temple, her sitting posture exuding the poise of high society.

A flicker of embarrassment crossed Mrs. Han’s eyes, but she quickly recovered, her smile growing even wider.

"Mrs. Sheng, you see how everyone is talking about our Sheng and Han Families’ marriage alliance. It’s been quite the buzz. Don’t you think we should go with the public’s wishes and bless Ruxin and Shaochen, these two children?"

Mrs. Han took a sip of tea, eyes gleaming at Bai Yueru.

While she spoke of "going with the public’s wishes", Bai Yueru understood the real message loud and clear.

Mrs. Han’s visit today was unmistakably an attempt to coerce the Sheng Family with public pressure, forcing Shaochen to marry Han Ruixin!

The Han Family, holding onto the fact that Han Ruixin was Shaochen’s lifesaver, was pressing the issue a little too aggressively!

Bai Yueru smiled faintly, just about to respond, when Mrs. Han continued earnestly, "Actually, our Han Family has been waiting for this day for a long time. In the past, because of Ruxin’s prolonged illness in bed—even though she was injured because of Shaochen—we were afraid she might hold back Shaochen..."

As Mrs. Han spoke, her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. She emphasized throughout that Han Ruixin was injured while saving Shaochen and that Shaochen could not be ungrateful.

"Old Mrs. Sheng initially disagreed with Ruxin and Shaochen being together because of Ruxin’s leg condition. But things are different now, Ruxin’s surgery has been half successful, and soon she will be able to live a healthy life just like a normal person. Shaochen and Ruxin have always been fond of each other, and now that they are both of marriageable age, our Sheng and Han Families are well-matched. It’s only rightful, both sentimentally and logically, for us as elders not to prevent them from being together any longer. Mrs. Sheng, wouldn’t you agree that what I say makes sense?"

Mrs. Han kept her smiling gaze fixed on Bai Yueru.
