After Apocalypse, I Got Rich With Superpower -
Chapter 105 - 103: Killing the Pig
Chapter 105: Chapter 103: Killing the Pig
Currently, Li Pan can place three Space Aim Points with her ability, she has already placed two, and just one more remains. There’s no need for short-distance placement, and she still lacks the strength for long-distance teleportation.
Li Pan began to focus specifically on caring for Spirit Plants and medicinal herbs, occasionally visiting the forest area to tend to forest ginseng and Lingzhi among other Medicinal Materials, cultivating them in imitation of their wild environment for better medicinal effects.
Shi Lei was about to advance to a High-level Superpower User, and fortunately, a Crystal Core had been exchanged for him in advance, which came in handy now.
In one night, the advancement was successful, and Shi Lei became a High-level Earth Element Superpower User. His care for the land and his strength had doubled, and No.7 Farm no longer lacked for people.
Next was Jiao Ming, who also upgraded to become a High-Level Fire Power User. Now their farm boasted several High-level Superpower Users, which counted as substantial strength.
Following them were Cui Yanjun and the other adults, who were expected to enter high-level by spring. They had been at the middle-level for several years already, held back by insatiable hunger and lack of energy, but now, well-fed on the farm and with their underlying injuries and toxins cleansed by Li Pan, advancing was just a matter of time.
Now, there was no need to hire long-term workers anymore. Once they upgraded, they could look after a large area of land, and the work was much easier than before, fully manageable.
The weather turned cold, stopping the renovations, as they might cause problems otherwise.
They would resume in spring, which would be much more convenient with the spatial teleportation. The Patrol Team members could also visit each other easily now, much more conveniently than before.
It was December; Qin Jianzhong invited a few buddies over for a pig-slaughtering feast, as the time had come to butcher the pigs at home.
"Wen Bin, are you free? We are going to slaughter a pig at home, come over and help me."
"I’m off today, I’ll find someone for you. How many do you need?"
"Call over whoever’s not busy; let’s have some meat and get some fat in."
"Alright, do I need to bring anything?"
"No need, we have everything here. Go and bring over the children from the orphanage and the old man for some good food."
"Sure thing."
Gao Wenbin took the keys; it was easy for him to come and go from the farm.
Before long, a crowd had gathered; the children from the orphanage and the orphanage director-grandfather came too, pitching in with preparing the food and washing pork.
"Grandfather, you’ve finally come, go warm up inside. I’ve made some milk tea, and there’s bread, steamed buns, and baozi inside. Today you’re helping me work; we’ve slaughtered ten pigs, and we can’t finish dealing with all these offals by ourselves."
Li Pan chattered away as she supported her grandfather, leading him into the house.
"I came today just to help you work. You can’t handle these tasks; it still needs me."
"Exactly, we need your guidance. The pickled cabbage I made is not bad, take some with you when you leave."
"Alright, I’ll take a little; if I don’t finish it, spring will be here."
As they talked, they entered the house, while the children excitedly headed for the treehouse.
The farm was bustling with people, bringing a lively atmosphere to the winter day and infusing it with signs of life.
The director-grandfather mentioned the children’s progress; two of them had excellent combat system superpowers. The Base Commander was moving to the logistics department, with a salary that included Contribution Points. After a few years of nurturing, they would be ready for formal employment. Being young, the base would grow attached to them.
They were children; their working hours were short, and they needed to continue their regular schooling.
The children did not have summer or winter breaks, but their school hours were not very long. In addition to studying, reading, and arithmetic, they also learned skills focused on practical survival.
After chatting for a while, the men were already preparing to start slaughtering the pigs. Gao Wenbin and a few teammates who were resting at home were assisting with the task.
The others were responsible for boiling water and cleaning and so on.
Grandpa worked with the kids, the girls carefully doing the washing up, while the boys followed along to tend the fire, carry hot water, and deliver things.
By the afternoon, they had slaughtered ten pigs, and the men helped out too. The parts like the pig intestines that they couldn’t finish were sent to the base’s kitchen, where they could be boiled and then stir-fried—a decent dish nonetheless.
There was no way to finish offal from ten pigs; they left eight sets of offal for the base kitchen, while they braised two sets themselves, and made five pig heads into pig head cake, mainly because pig heads are quite large and a hassle to cook, simply too many to handle all at once.
In the end, the remaining five pig heads were sent back to the base kitchen, with the head chef saying he could make the pig head cake himself.
That night, they enjoyed a feast with dishes from the butchered pigs, including blood sausage, sauerkraut with pork and big pork bones, topped with pig head cake.
They saved a pig head cake for Grandpa, the base commander, and kept one for themselves.
There were still ten cattle and twenty sheep to slaughter. They had raised many last year, having prepared eight big green storage pits, which was sufficient for their needs.
In winter, the livestock lose weight, so better to slaughter them now than let them get thinner.
They kept a few sheep for their own consumption, and the rest were sent to the base to provide a hearty meal for the brothers, with the New Year fast approaching.
Five sheepskins were enough for their own use; the rest, once cured, were sent back to the base, as many in the patrol team still had to work outside in cold weather, and it’s much less harsh with sheepskin coats.
No wonder the base commander says that Li Pan’s farm is his backup.
Supporting a city at the base is quite difficult, especially when our own brothers do the most dangerous and hardest work, yet in the end, they can’t even fill their stomachs. Even the base commander eats at the cafeteria with everyone else and goes hungry.
It wasn’t until Li Pan’s farm was up and running that they could finally start to see some fat in their diet, mostly supplied by Panpan Farm through part charity, part sale, or else the brothers would have been even worse off.
Jiao Ming and the others have already become middle-level superpower users, but it took them until now to advance to high-level superpowers because life was so hard and energy so scarce that survival came first.
It’s only been in the last two years that the base has been able to have a bit of comfort and fattier days.
This year, the pork and sheep meat supplied to the base were at rock-bottom prices, even lower than half the market price. They weren’t looking to make money off the base commander, but just to ensure the brothers had meat to eat, since poultry is cleaner than Mutant Beasts.
"Is everyone coming back before the New Year?"
Li Pan asked.
"They are, there will be some on duty during the holiday, but their families are at the base. What do you want to exchange? I can arrange it for you in advance."
"I want to exchange for some seeds first, as well as calves, lambs, and piglets, the usual. We can raise more animals this year. Our people need to eat too. Then, treat everyone for internal injuries and cleanse their bodies of residual toxins, kind of like a major check-up."
Last year, they provided a collective treatment and cleansing for everyone, and now, as long as it’s not a serious injury, they could treat the minor residual toxins while everyone is there before the New Year.
"Okay, I’ll let you know when people are back. Write me a note with what you need, and I’ll exchange it for you."
Gao Wenbin nodded.
"Alright."
The New Year was approaching, and having finally finished all their work, Li Pan gave everyone time off to go out, spend money, and enjoy shopping.
However, they scheduled shifts among themselves, with Jiao Ming and a few others taking time off in advance.
Zhang Qi and her group also took turns, as they couldn’t all take a break at once, or else who would take care of the farm’s land? It’s not possible without people infusing it with superpowers.
Zhang Qi and her group only took three days off at a time, rotating so they could take another three days off next time. Jiao Ming and his group allowed themselves only two days off, three if something came up.
No one took twelve days off in one go, as it would delay things. Everyone has long since treated the farm as their home, and as Qin Jianzhong put it, "I have a home; I’m not a vagrant. Why would I wander outside for no good reason? It’s freakishly cold."
Li Pan, accompanied by Xie Ling and Zhang Yu, went to the mall to buy firecrackers, drinks, beverages, and other ingredients needed for the New Year, which they hadn’t had time to shop for before due to the farm’s busy schedule. They went out to the street with great enthusiasm.
