Chapter 89: THE PUNCH
Chapter 89: THE PUNCH
Mattie rose from the bed half-naked now glaring at Stephan, "Hey baby girl.." Stephan called as he hugged her from behind.
"Are you just going to let her go? She is taking Julian away from me." she let out sadly.
"Yeah..." he replied, his voice whispering against her back.
"We have no choice, for now, you should stay..." Mattie jabbed his stomach, interrupting him, and making him release her immediately.
"You sly bastard!" she snarled wanting to hit him but he grabbed her hands.
"Mattie! Common... I love you... why don’t you just leave him and be with me?" Mattie stopped struggling as she shot him a weird gaze.
She knows that Stephan loves her and has been using the love he has for her to get him to do crazy things.
"Love? You expected me to stoop down to your level after being Julian’s fiancee?"
Stephan was hurt by her words, "I am rich also... I can get you whatever you want." he announced.
"Did you ever have feelings for me?" he asked as his eyes swirled in pain.
"Of course not..." Mattie sneered as she pulled the duvet from his body trying to stand up.
"Mat..."
"Hey, you know this is friends with benefits, right? We have nothing like love feeling right?" This pissed him off.
"Mattie, what exactly do you want me to do to make you fall for me?" he asked, one could see in his eyes how sad he was she was giving him this response.
"Nothing, I just don’t love you.." she halted her words and screamed seeing the way he had just smashed the lamp on the nightstand against the wall.
"Are you crazy Stephan!" she barked and he halted at her responding almost immediately.
"Yes, I am! I have fuvking done every shit you want! Why can’t you just give me the chance?"
"I kissed a girl, forced myself on her, molested her, made her go through all sorts of shit, despite being my best friend’s wife. I even sent the video to your so-called lover just to frame her!"
"But that is for friendship," she chimed.
"To hell with that so-called friendship! I fuvk you! Do you think it’s for friendship?"
Mattie’s expression twisted in disgust as she scoffed, her hand connecting with Stephan’s face in a stinging slap. The force of her anger left Stephan stunned, his eyes wide with shock.
"How dare you?" Mattie’s voice trembled, irritation boiling over. " You used my body, and still, it’s not enough for you?" Her words dripped with venom.
Stephan laughter erupted, laced with frustration and hurt. "I was foolish to think I could make you love me." He sprang up, grabbing his shirt, his movements abrupt.
"Where are you going?" Mattie asked surprise etched on her face.
"Leaving," Stephan replied, his tone firm.
Mattie’s eyes widened. "What? You can’t just leave!"
"I am done," He declared, his voice resolute. "I’m leaving this place and your life. I have no business being with you anymore."
Mattie’s face contorted in anguish. "Are you insane?"
Stephan gaze locked onto hers, his eyes blazing. "Yes, I was insane to betray Julian’s friendship for you." He pocketed his car keys.
As he turned to leave, Mattie rushed to him, grasping his arm. "No... you can’t... Why?" Her voice cracked.
He jerked his hand free. "I was blind, but now I see myself." His fingers raked through his hair, a gesture of self-loathing. "I am haunted by guilt, knowing I am betraying my best friend’s trust."
Mattie’s eyes welled up with tears as his words pierced her soul.
"You’re not worthy of Julian’s love," he spat, venom in his tone. "Astrid deserves better than you."
Mattie’s face paled, shock written across her features.
"Enjoy your day, your life," He said, his voice cold, detached, and turned to walk away.
Mattie’s desperate cry echoed. "You can’t leave... I know you will be back! You can’t live without me!" Her pain-filled words hung in the air.
Stephan’s retreating figure didn’t falter, leaving Mattie crumpled, her world shattered.
Mattie’s anguished wails echoed through the space.
But he didn’t look back for once, he walked into his car to drive out of her condo.
His fist banged his steering wheel and her words haunted him, he thought he could make her his friend now that his friend was looking elsewhere.
But she just kept using him for a fool... he was tired of being used, he can’t bear or take it anymore.
He recalled he had sent a video to his friend knowing he might be in rage if he had feelings for her.
He dropped the message in their group chat, "Let’s have a drink.."
He hoped one of them would respond to his reply, he missed his friends, and he missed the time he was spending with them.
Miles knew about their relationship already and he was sure soon enough Julian would do the same.
Stephan drove down the street, lost in thought when he spotted Astrid exiting a cab.
He hesitated, knowing she’d harbor resentment toward him. Yet, inexplicably, he pulled over and followed.
Astrid’s fragile frame and faltering steps concerned Stephan. Her injured leg seemed to hinder her, but she pressed on.
"Doctor!" Astrid yelled, urgency in her voice.
Stephan swiftly disguised himself, observing from afar.
"How is she? Did he...?" Astrid’s voice cracked, tears welling up. She grasped the doctor’s hands, desperation etched on her face.
"Mrs. Logan, please calm down," the doctor soothed.
"I haven’t seen her, I will..." Astrid’s words trailed off as Josh emerged, anger blazing in his eyes.
"Don’t you dare hide my wife from me!" Josh shouted, indifference masking his emotions. "I gave you my whole life savings already, let us go!" Astrid cried out.
Stephan’s concern intensified, he looked around and saw they were about to cause a scene that would turn ugly for his friend, then gestured to a nurse.
She ran to him recognizing him immediately, "Hi... Dr.."
"Send any outsiders out... Phones not allowed," he instructed firmly, interrupting her.
She was hesitating not knowing what to do and then he exhaled sharply, "Done deal, two million..." The nurse’s eyes widened, professionalism long forgotten.
"Deal!" she let out and ran out.
Stephan glanced back, witnessing Josh’s aggression. "Dad! Let me go!" Astrid struggled, pain and fear mingling.
The doctor intervened. "Mrs. Logan, please..." but he was shut off by Josh.
"She can’t afford treatment, and I can." but Astrid shook her head.
"Doctor you can listen to this man, they divorce a long time ago and he is the fucking radon why my mum is in that condition."
Stephan, already tired of the scene, stepped forward. "I will cover treatment. Leave."
"Dr. Steph," the doctor called now, filled with familiarity, "Do everything you can, I will cover the expenses."
"St... Ste... Stephan." she called shifting back, "Why are you here?" she asked filled with regret.
"Are you going to allow him to take it to me?" Stephan asked, ignoring her question.
Astrid doesn’t want to be indebted to the man standing before her.
"No... I don’t need you.." some nurses rushed over.
"Code blue... it’s room 154," Astrid eyes widened as she recognized that hospital.
"That is mum’s room.." she let out her voice barely audible before he could control her leg fan along with them.
Stephan made eye contact with Josh who was left speechless, he knew Stephan is Julian’s friend. Of course who doesn’t know the trio’s best friend?
Stephan shook his head, finding his way to the reception center since he knew Strid’s mum’s information would be there.
"Astrid..." he paused wondering what he could call the patient
Then he recalled she was being called Mrs Logan, "Mrs Logan Mum.." he stated and the nurse nodded her head.
"I am going to make the full payment," she stared at him with a small smile.
She gave information and extra was paid, "For future purposes.." he let out and then looked toward the door she had run into.
Recalling she is scared she was of him he decided not to bother himself going to her.
Just then his phone buzzed and he pulled it out to see it was a message from Julain.
"Let’s go, I need it," Julian sent back, Stephan bobbed his head in acceptance, aware the urgency stemmed from the disturbing video.
He drove down to the club, where Julian hastily parked and exited.
As they entered, Julian stormed toward their usual seat, leaving his friends behind.
"What’s going on with him?" Miles asked, glancing at Stephan.
"Don’t give me that look," Stephan warned. "I don’t know..." he answered."
Miles scoffed. "I wonder how you have the heart to still walk with us." Stephan remained silent, following Julian.
Upon reaching their seat, Miles was astonished by Julian’s swift downing of a drink.
"Hey!" Miles yelled, collecting the glass. "What’s your problem? If you miss Mattie, go back to her."
But Julian’s response was a sudden punch to Miles’ face. "Julian!" Stephan intervened, but Julian shrugged him off.
"If you’re telling me to leave Astrid, you’re fucking wrong!" Julian bellowed, silencing the club.
Julian grasped Miles’ collar, his eyes blazing. "What’s wrong with you, man?" Miles asked, surprised.
"Are you going to deny you kissed my wife?" Julian demanded.
