Chapter 87: MEETING THE PRESIDENT KIDS
Chapter 87: MEETING THE PRESIDENT KIDS
Good morning," Astrid’s bubbling voice greeted Julian who was already dressed and ready to go to the office for that day.
She hadn’t seen him throughout the morning until now.
"Good morning," he mumbled back, staring at her, his thoughts flashing back to the video he had watched.
"Why are you dressed?" His eyes squinted, staring at her, "I am also going to the office today, I am sick of staying home." She replied and Maren also walked down at the moment.
"Guess she’s strong again and ready to conquer the world," Maren teased, but Julian’s expression remained stern, unfazed by her lighthearted jab. His eyes narrowed, conveying a lingering disapproval.
"I am still not satisfied with the fact that you need to live here," Julian said, his tone firm but laced with a hint of resignation," But for Astrid and Dad, I will let go."
Maren’s eyebrows furrowed, confusion etched on her face. "What is my offense?" she asked, her voice tinged with genuine puzzlement.
Julian’s gaze drifted away, his mind elsewhere. Miles had called him, telling about the previous night’s events between him and Maren.
Until Astrid’s voice cut through the tension, her words infused with warmth. "Don’t be mad at Maren, she is my friend..." but something flashed through her head and she paused observing Julian’s reaction.
Though he has been acting nice to her these past few days, that doesn’t end the fact that she still doesn’t have rights in his life.
"I am going to manage," he answered immediately, understanding her expression. He could see the hesitation in them, even a smile had dissipated almost immediately.
"I have a meeting with the president today, so I won’t be going to the office. You can go with Larry instead."
Julian’s eyes locked onto Astrid, and for an instant, a broad smile spread across his face, softening his features.
"Thanks for the morning," Astrid said, her gratitude sincere.
Maren observed the exchange, her gaze shifting between Julian and Astrid.
She smiled mischievously, sensing an opportunity. "I am going to the president too, so I will join Julian instead."
Julian’s head tilted, a hint of surprise flickering across his face. However, Maren’s smile left him little room for argument.
"Alright, have a nice day," Julian conceded, his tone laced with reluctant acceptance.
As Astrid leaped out of the mansion, her joy infectious, Julian watched her go.
His attention then turned to Maren, his eyes searching. "Seeing that gaze, it means Miles told you something."
"It transpired twice, you can’t tell me that’s a mistake," Julian said, his voice a bit worried.
Maren strutted toward Julian, her confidence radiating. "I like him, so why can’t I have him?"
Julian’s expression softened, empathy etched on his face. "You are a well-defined woman, Maren. If he doesn’t want you, find someone better who loves and cares for you."
Maren’s eyes sparkled, with vulnerability. "Miles can’t—"
Julian’s gentle interruption halted her words. "You deserve more, Maren. Don’t settle for someone who doesn’t love you."
"I will try.." she let out and he snickered at her thoughts.
"He won’t, he doesn’t like you, Maren," Maren’s heart shattered at this, "Why?"
"I am trying my hardest to learn some things from Astrid and make him like me,"
"Astrid,"
"He likes your wife, don’t you know him?" Julian’s eyes darted around at the thought.
"I know, but I didn’t know it had gone far," Maren smiles at this as a sudden thought comes to her mind.
"How about?" she gently moved closer to him, but Julian was quick to stop her.
"Don’t come closer?" she rolled her eyes before she proceeded.
"Don’t you think you should make him like me instead of your wife?" Julian stared down at her.
"Why? Do you think I would listen to your suggestion?" he asked trying to maintain their far distance from her.
"Because you want Astrid as much as you don’t want to let go of Mattie."
"That is none of your concern, all I care about is making yourself find a better man and everything will go well," he explained, pulling out his phone.
"Go with the other car I don’t want to go with you," he stated and walked off typing on his phone leaving Maren to stare into space.
Her mind flashed back to how she had gone out with one of her clients who thought he should spoil her only for her to get drunk.
This time she promised she didn’t do it on purpose but somehow she had ended up on Mile’s bed.
His hurtful words rang in her head again, as he sent her money for the night.
Maren couldn’t shake off the feeling of despair as she thought to herself, "Am I being too stupid?"
The sound of Julian’s sigh and the creak of the door peeking his head through.
"Hurry up," he groaned.
Just then a message popped on her phone, it was from her assistant.
"Boss, you have a meeting in the president’s lounge today. His daughter wants to discuss the style for her birthday dress."
Maren let out a deep sigh, her eyes drifting to the message she had sent to Milds, apologizing for the previous night’s events.
The fact that he had read it without responding weighed heavily on her. Julian’s words continued to echo in her mind, "She could get whatever guy she wants, why has she been bent on having the same man for ten long years without getting his attention for once?" The sting of his words lingered.
As the car pulled up at the White House, Maren’s anxiety grew. The entrance was eerily free of obstacles since they were expected.
They alighted from the car heading to the president’s lounge, Julian’s voice cut through her thoughts.
"Are you purposely following me?"
"You deal with jewelry, I deal with dresses... see why we’re both called in on the same day," she stated and he sighed.
"Fine." They followed the ladies who had welcomed them, their heels clicking in unison until she gestured for them to go into a room.
They walked in and everywhere was dark at first until the light suddenly turned on.
"Welcome to our humble abode." An unfamiliar voice greeted them, making their gaze follow through to see a guy and a lady, the guy was the one who had greeted them.
Maren’s eyes scanned the room, locking onto Julian’s, his expression unreadable.
A lady, roughly Julian’s age, chided the guy, "Hey Maddox, you don’t have to act so silly.
"I want to see the president." Julian’s response was curt.
The lady’s eyes narrowed, "Julian, we were once classmates. I’m surprised by how cold you still act." She walked toward him, her voice tinged with disappointment.
"Cold?" Julian repeated.
"I could see clearly in my schedule that the president wants to see me," Julian added, losing his anger already.
The lady’s eyes fluttered closed, her voice barely above a whisper, "Sorry... Maddox had done that."
Just then Maddox stepped forward, his gaze met Maren’s, and he couldn’t help but stare.
"You’re beautiful, just like on TV, Maddox Simpson" he introduced and then jabbed him in the stomach, making him cough.
"And she is my twin sister, Maddy Simpson," he added.
"It’s nice seeing you too Mr and Miss. Simpson."
"First name basis, hmmm I like that," he responded, shaking his head while Julian observed his sudden close act with Maren.
Maren was about to pull her hands but his hold was too strong for her to pull until Julian stepped in.
"Let it go," only then did Maddoc notice and quickly did as told.
"I have always heard of the famous Maren ever since I got back, it’s a pleasure meeting you." He asserted grinning from ear to ear and Maddy slapped his head embarrassed.
"Miss..." She paused eating for Maren to complete her name.
"Maren," she answered, leaving her to clear her throat. She is way higher than this lady in class but she can’t help but wonder why she feels inferior to her.
"I have always thought I made a mistake not knowing your last name but seems you don’t give it out."
Maren, still maintaining her smile, stared deep into her face which made her look down.
"Is it supposed to be part of..."
"If you wanted her to design your dress you should already know that she doesn’t give it out. Make research next time." Julian cut her off.
"Oh... I am so sorry for that,"
"If you want customized jewelry, you should come to my company, never make an appointment somewhere else, and never invite me to the lounge using your dad’s title."
"Isn’t that a bit rude? Your secretary was hard to fool before I finally got her, now you.."
"My secretary... How did you gain access to her?" The cold gaze in his eyes could be seen now.
"Well, Rowan your rival is my friend.." Julian clenched his fist at the mention of Rowan.
"I was surprised with how he got her details, but he told me they are good friends."
"I am not interested in getting you any jewelry, and the next time you have access and fool my secretary, I won’t take it easy with you."
Julian turned about to leave when Maddy ran toward him grabbing his hands.
"Hey... we are friends, I should be able to get special treatment, you shouldn’t treat me like your other client."
Julian snatched his grip from her hands, "My friends are Stephan and Miles." he emphasized adjusting his shirt.
"You should fire your secretary then, she is the one who fell for my fool act and also advised Miles to help with your system hold, you don’t want it getting breached next time."
"I get that from her side, but never repeat this act." Julian glanced at Maren who still stood there with a small smile.
"The car will be left behind for you to take," Maren scored at this, "My assistant will be here any minute I will go with her car instead"
Julian nodded his head and walked off, the moment he left Maddy stormed toward her almost grabbing her hair but Maddox was quick to stop her.
Only this time did Maren’s gaze meet with them again, "What was that about?" she asked as if she didn’t notice.
"Who are you to Julian? What is your relationship," Mattie smiled proudly at this.
"I don’t have much connection with him, but lately I became his wife friend any problem with that?" Maddox was stunned by the way she was standing her ground not a single fear on her face.
"What?"
"And so you know, I can tell you have a bit of a crush on him, he loves his wife and wouldn’t care for any simp."
"How dare you? I am a client who can ruin your business in one go:"
"Maddy, you are going too far... let this be," Maddox butted in.
"Of course, I will give you the go-ahead," Maren replied
"You!"
"If you think I might be like other companies where you hire them and intimidate them, then you are wrong on this." She moved closer to her.
"I build my shit with my blood and sweat, and that would never make me bow to the likes of you." She was still talking when the door opened.
"Boss, sorry I am late. My car had an issue in the way." Maren’s assistant voice came in but stopped seeing the tension brewing in the room already.
"There will be no need for that Hannette, I am calling this off," Maren affirmed and winked at Maddox before walking out of the room.
