Chapter 82: THE CLUB

"What is going on here?" Becky was surprised to see Tonia with the cops.

"Well sorry but we are coming to take your daughter-in-law," she replied rather sassily, making Nadine and her mum gasp.

"What? Why? What has she done to offend you?" They both asked in unison feigning care.

"My daughter’s skin got blistered thanks to her, and you expect me not to arrest this good-for-nothing gi.." Becky smacked her face before Tonia could complete the statement.

Astrid eyes widened at this, "How?" Tonia scoffed and she glanced at the cops.

"Did you see this? I am going to sue you!" Miles shut his eyes frustrated at this.

"Mum, please we are family friends don’t make this ugly, you shouldn’t involve cops in this." Miles approached Tonia trying to calm her but she pushed him away.

"Family? I can’t recall the last time I talked about us being family," Tonia let out and Miles was taken aback.

"Mum! We have been family..." Becky grabbed his hand pulling him away from Tonia and he swallowed hard at this knowing what she was capable of doing.

"Fine, if you want to sue my daughter-in-law, then I am ready to do the same with you," Astrid eyes widened at this, Becky stood just like a mother.

She never expected someone to stand for her like Becky had just done, "Mum.." Julian tried pulling her back but she slapped his hands telling him to let her go.

"Cops," Becky called and they swallowed hard, staring at her.

"Well, my daughter-in-law was pushed from the stairs, leading her to get surgery because she had internal bleeding." Miles wanted to touch her but she snatched it off.

"She spends days in the hospital, and I am pretty sure Mattie had planned something else so my daughter had used self-defense," Becky explained moving close to the cops.

"I would like to know who would receive the greatest punishment.." Miles strides toward Becky.

"Auntie, it hadn’t gotten to that extent, We can sort things out within ourselves." Miles apologizes but she isn’t happy with this.

The fact that she is trying to use her power on Astrid because she feels she is powerful is what makes Becky so annoyed with the whole issue.

"Mum.." Astrid called for the first time, walking slowly towards her, "It’s fine, I pus.."

"I pushed her into the water," Julian came forward stopping Astrid, everyone was surprised by this.

"What?"

"Yeah, it was a mistake and you can punish me if you want to," The cops shifted back at this, if there is anyone you dare not punish, he is the only son of Logan.

"We... it’s better you all solved this between yourself, we can’t afford to be mixed with your troubles." The cops announced fear etched on their faces.

Julian smirked at this and stared at Tomia, "Well, it seems your cops are not brave enough like you thought."

She was becoming furious, mad, and irritated. She couldn’t do anything.

Astrid watched, overwhelmed and grateful, as Miles and his mother’s confrontation unfolded.

"I will get you all for my daughter’s skin! I promise I will do everything to bring you down!" Tonia vowed, her voice trembling with anger and determination.

Miles felt embarrassed by his mother’s outburst. "Sorry, I will take her back... I’m so sorry," he apologized again, pulling his mother away.

Tonia struggled to free herself, but Miles’s grip remained firm. His face twisted in a mix of frustration and fury.

Once inside the car, Miles tossed his keys to one of their guards. "Mum, what the hell was that for!" he exclaimed, irritation etched on his face.

His mother scoffed, "I don’t know... maybe you can tell me why you’re trying to make your sister look bad!"

Miles punched the chair, frustration boiling over. "Why do you always make me the freaking villain!" he yelled.

His mother raised an eyebrow. "Maybe ask yourself that question, Miles. You make it seem as if we make you the bad guy, but it’s the opposite."

"Mum!" Miles protested.

"Miles!" she retorted, leaving him speechless.

"What exactly has your sister done to deserve your hatred?" she asked, her voice laced with disappointment.

"Can’t you see the life she craves for?"

"I love her!" Miles insisted.

His mother’s expression turned skeptical. "You don’t, Miles. Stop lying to me. I can tell you don’t."

Miles’s face reddened and his mother’s eyes flashed with hurt.

"Do you know how far we went to give you the sister you have today? And how do you repay that? By supporting your best friend against her!"

The car fell silent, the tension between them increased,

"I love my sister if you feel like I need to show her love in spoilt form, you are wrong I promise I love her but if she’s going to keep living this way I can’t say about the future,"

Tonia’s hand connected with Miles’s face in a sharp slap, her expression a mixture of shock and outrage.

"You are the son, I pray for now, but now I am beginning to regret my decision and having you as my firstborn!"

Miles’s heart stung from the slap and his mother’s words. Just as the sand time, the car pulled up in front of the hospital.

"I can tell you love that stupid girl, Astrid, so much that you’re now beginning to even support her against your sister," Tonia spat, venom in her voice.

Miles’s face reddened. "You are nothing but a disgrace to our family," Tonia added, her words cut deep.

As she reached for the door handle, Miles dropped a bombshell, "Mattie sent guys to molest Astrid!" Tonia froze, her eyes wide with horror.

"What?" she whispered, turning back to Miles.

"Mattie also made different men slap her across her face," Miles continued, his voice laced with disgust.

Tonia’s eyes widened further. "You are kidding, right?"

Miles’s expression turned cold. "Mattie has been cheating on Julian for years with Stephan." Tonia’s face paled, her heart racing.

"What?" she breathed.

"Do you think our friendship would remain the same if the fault had come from outside?" Miles asked, his tone bitter.

"Miles, is this some kind of joke?" Tonia’s voice trembled.

"She even made Stephan choke Astrid, almost killing her in the hospital before her discharge, since she survived the staircase fall," Miles revealed, his anger boiling over.

"Enough!" Tonia cried, covering her mouth.

"No, I need to tell you more about what your lovely daughter has been doing," Miles pressed on.

"Who else knows about this?" Tonia asked, an alarm etched on her face.

Miles rolled his eyes. "Why? So you can shut them up?"

Tonia’s grip on the door handle tightened. "No, this will ruin our name."

Miles’s voice turned icy. "So don’t you think things should continue this way than for the whole truth to be exposed?"

Tonia grasped Miles’s hands, desperation in her eyes. "Please... No one can know about it, not even your best friend. Please..."

Miles jerked his hands-free and exited the car, slamming the door shut then he recalled one more thing.

Miles turned back to his mother, his eyes locked on hers.

"Ma’am, Becky knows Mattie is cheating on her son. So, if I were you, I would be careful how I treat them."

Tonia’s eyes widened in alarm, but Miles didn’t wait for her response. He floored the accelerator, leaving his mother and the hospital behind.

As he drove away, thoughts swirled in his head. He needed to cool off.

Another nagging thought haunted him, as he recalled his mum’s words. His heart is growing desire for Astrid.

He sighed heavily, stomping his fist on the steering wheel.

Shaking off the thoughts, he pulled up in front of their favorite club, the neon lights illuminating the dark knight.

"Time to drown my sorrows," he muttered to himself.

He stepped out of the car and handed the keys to the valet, his eyes scanning the crowded entrance. The bouncer, recognizing him, nodded and parted the ropes.

"Welcome back, sir."

He nodded and entered the club, the music enveloping him like a shroud. The air was thick with the smell of alcohol and perfume.

He made his way to the VIP section, where a hostess greeted him with a warm smile.

"Right this way, sir."

She led him to their usual table, where a personalized bottle of whiskey awaited. He settled into the plush couch, signaling the waitress.

"Bring me a double, neat. And keep them coming."

The waitress nodded, her eyes sparkling with familiarity. He gulped down the first drink, feeling the burn course through his veins.

The second followed, and then the third. The room began to blur, the music fading into the background.

Suddenly, hands were touching him, soft fingers tracing his arms and shoulders.

"Hey, Handsome... need us to be with you tonight?" Girls swooned over him, their giggles and whispers lost in the din.

He tried to push them away, but they persisted, their touch making his skin crawl.

"Leave me alone," he slurred, his vision spinning.

Just as he thought he was losing his cool, a commanding voice cut through the chaos.

"Leave him be, ladies."

The girls scattered instantly, their eyes wide with fear. "Sorry ma’am never knew he came with you."

She snickered as she watched them leave, He looked up to see Maren standing before him.

"Maren? Why are you here?"

"You look like you’ve had enough," she said, her voice husky, "Even though you’re drunk you still hate me?"

He nodded, feeling the room spin and she felt sad.

Maren sat beside him, her hand brushing against his. "I think it’s time to get you home."He protested weakly, but she stopped him.

"Don’t argue. You are in no shape to drive." She signaled the waitress, settling the bill with a discreet gesture.

He stumbled to his feet, Maren’s arm wrapping around his waist. "Let’s get you out of here."

She guided him through the crowded club. Outside, her sleek black car waited, the engine purring softly.
