Accidental Marriage With Mr Billioniare -
Chapter 77: THE HOSPITAL SCENE
Chapter 77: THE HOSPITAL SCENE
Julian sat beside Astrid on the bed. It’s been more than 24 hours and she still is not awake.
He said beside her in deep thought, wondering what she was going to say if she regained consciousness.
Watching her sleep peacefully caused a stir in him. Can’t help but ponder on the last fight they both had and her statement regarding Mattie.
He sighed again and just then the door opened, about to lash out he saw Miles walking inside with the expression Stop me if you dare.
Julian looked back at Astrid, not in the mood to exchange words with him, while Miles stood behind him gaping at Astrid also before patting Julian’s shoulder.
"What did you tell her?" he asked but then Julian rolled his eyes not responding, "Man... I am not stealing her from you, and besides... she has the right to choose who she wants."
"Miles.."
"I am talking about my sister, what did you tell her to make her cry that much?" He sighed and glanced back at him.
"I told her I want a break, my head is getting piled up and she acting ruthlessly at Astrid was getting tiring." Miles snorted at this.
"A break? You never get tired of her.." Miles stated in shock. "Besides, it’s just for a year."
"Miles, enough," he announced irritatedly, slapping his hands off.
Miles was about to say more when they both noticed Astrid stirred.
Julian’s eyes locked onto her fragile state, filled with tension. He leaned in closer, his voice barely above a whisper. "Slowly, Astrid. Take your time."
Astrid’s eyelids fluttered open, but the bright light forced them shut again. Julian’s hands hovered beside her, hesitant to touch her lest he disturb her fragile state.
Miles, standing across from them, had his hands tucked into his pockets, observing his friend’s tender reaction with surprise.
After a few more attempts, Astrid’s eyes finally opened, locking onto Julian’s.
Confusion clouded her gaze as she struggled to comprehend the warmth in his eyes.
"Thanks for fighting," Julian stated softly, "I should call the doctors," Miles announced, gaining her attention, as he stepped out,
Julian’s focus remained on Astrid. He gently placed a pillow behind her back, helping her sit up. "Easy, you’re safe now."
As she sat up, Julian adjusted the blankets around her, ensuring she was comfortable.
His fingers brushed against hers, sending a spark of electricity through their body, this made Julian withdraw his hands.
Astrid’s eyes never left Julian’s, searching for answers. Why was he being so caring? Has he always been this gentle? She thought.
Julian’s hands cradled her face, his thumbs tracing gentle patterns on her cheeks. "You’re doing great, Astrid. Just breathe." but she retreated her face making Julina retract his hands.
Just then the doctor walked into the room, a warm smile on his face.
"Good morning, Mrs Logan. How are you feeling today?" he asked, checking her vital signs.
Astrid’s throat was still sore, and she remained silent, nodding slightly in response. Her eyes shifted to Julian and Miles, standing beside her bed.
Then the nurse began his examination, checking her surgical site and dressing. "Everything looks good here," he said. "You’re healing well."
Julian nodded, relief evident on his face. Miles smiled encouragingly at Astrid.
"Can you remember the people standing before you?" the doctor asked, assessing her cognitive sense.
"He’s Julian, and that’s Miles." Astrid’s flat voice surprised Miles.
He hadn’t expected her to be so cold, especially after just regaining consciousness from surgery.
The doctor continued, "Good, Mrs. Logan. That’s excellent. Now, I want to go over some instructions to ensure your recovery."
He turned to Julian and Miles. "Please make sure she gets plenty of rest and takes her medication as prescribed."
"What about food, Doctor?" Julian asked.
"For now, let’s stick to clear soups and crackers," the doctor replied. "Avoid solid foods initially. We will gradually introduce more substantial meals as her body responds. Astrid, don’t worry about eating immediately. Wait 2-3 hours after waking up before having something light.
Astrid nodded again, her eyes drifting shut.
The doctor handed Julian a sheet of paper. "Here is a list of supplements and medications. Follow the instructions carefully."
"Will she be okay, Doctor?" Miles asked.
"Yes, with proper care and rest, Astrid will recover well," the doctor reassured.
As the doctor finished his examination, Astrid’s hand rested on Julian’s. But the moment the doctor left, she snatched it away, despite her weakness.
Julian looked taken aback. Astrid rolled her eyes at him and rested her head on the pillow.
"Hey, Astrid, don’t exert yourself. Just rest."
Astrid’s gaze lingered on Julian before closing her eyes.
The doctor returned. "One more thing, Astrid. Avoid heavy activities and strenuous movements. Let your body heal."
Astrid nodded, her eyes still shut.
As the doctor departed, Julian leaned in. "Astrid, I—"
But she cut him off with a faint shake of her head.
Miles placed a reassuring hand on Julian’s shoulder. "Let her rest, Julian. We will talk later."
The silence in the room grew, Astrid’s thoughts swirled, memories of the accident and surgery foggy.
But one thing was clear: she wasn’t ready to forgive Julian just yet.
Her whole body was in pain but she couldn’t even whine to anyone and just bear the pain, she shut her eyes taking in a deep breath.
Just then the door opened and her dad and his family walked inside, and the little light in her eyes left immediately.
She was pretty sure they had ulterior motives for coming, but she wouldn’t let Julian see that.
"Oh my poor baby, how are you doing?" her dad cooed pretending to be worried.
"I am fine," Astrid replied but sadly it wasn’t coming from his heart hearing her dad ask her that question once made her excited.
He never asks her, he is always the cause of her pain and she is used to it.
"My baby... you lost some pounds," he let out and Astrid felt a bit irritated and embarrassed by her father.
The best she could do was to lose some pounds, but sadly she can’t. She had tried several times but it ended up becoming worse.
She doesn’t know the reason and doesn’t have the money for medical bills so she no longer bothers herself about her weight and just accepts her fate.
"Maybe... we should leave you both," Julian announced and Mile wasn’t ready to do so, he had noticed her reaction the moment she saw her parents.
He also noticed Joe Jsosh has been nothing but a douchebag since he arrived, "Let’s leave." Julian whispered to him.
His eyes trailed to Astrid, "You sure?" he mouthed to her, and then a small smile appeared on her face.
Julian noticed this and clenched his fist, she nodded her head and then Miles decided to leave.
The moment they left the caring appearance her family face held dispersed in a blink of an eye.
"Why do you have to make us sleepless for days?" Astrid eyes widened at the mention of days.
"Days?" she asked and they nodded, "You... you have been in this hospital for four days, halting everyone’s daily life."
Astrid smiled bitterly at this, "Then you shouldn’t have cared and just go on with your daily life."
Josh got furious and raised his hands then Astrid shut her eyes, "He might be cold or strict to me but I don’t think he would let anyone who hurt his wife scot-free," Astrid let out and immediately Josh retracted his hands.
"You must be so proud to finally pull a rich man... all that thanks to my dad," Nadine said with an irked expression.
Astrid forced herself to sit even though it hurt like crazy, while her family only stood there and watched her groan in pain.
She can’t help but wonder how an outsider would treat her in a better way than that of her own family.
"I got into the hall myself without anyone’s help to save myself from you so tell me how your dad was the one who had help?"
"Your dad? You called your dad that way?" Leila fumes and Asyrid rolled her eyes.
"As you can see I am doing fine so can you leave now?"
"What do you expect from your husband’s family?" Astrid bobbed her head, she knew they had ulterior motives.
Her father had never for one minute cared for her, he had hated her from birth.
Astrid tried to wipe the tears that were about to trickle up in his eyes and just then Josh came closer.
"Your father-in-law is about to collaborate with me, a crazy word about me to your husband and I will make your life a living hell, " Josh announced and Astrid’s eyes went wide.
Her father is the kind to scam people of their money, she was never expecting Logan to collaborate with him.
She didn’t have a problem when the Adams wanted to do so but not the Logans.
"Well sorry Dad, there is no hell I haven’t been through so that collaboration, I Astrid wouldn’t make it work," Josh couldn’t hold his anger anymore and smacked her across her face.
Just at the same time, Julian walked right into the room.
