Chapter 73: HE IS TERRIFIED
Astrid groaned in pain struggling to stand up from the ground tears welled up in her eyes.
The pain was too much for her to handle, her hand on the floor she tried finding her glasses, but it was futile.
Frustrated, she was about to give up when a hand pulled her up and then placed her glass on her eyes.
She looked up to see it was one of the maids who had been forced to punish her in the past by Mattie.
"Please don’t hurt me," she said, still trying to hide the pain.
"Ma’am... we only want to help you. We are not trying to hurt you," she explained, only then did she see two other ladies behind the first girl.
"Please help you to the couch.." Astrid pleaded. Her ankle is swollen, and her head is still banging her seriously.
"Ma’am I think you should go to the hospital," one of the ladies said, but she shook her head.
She has gone through a series of pain that is more than this, so she can’t let stuff like this affect her she thought.
"I am fine, I just need a bit of massage, please can you help me up the stairs? I just want to be in the room," she told them and they were more than sad for her.
She needed to be hospitalized because the boss might be mad at her. She didn’t want to put herself in much trouble.
"Alright," they helped her up the stairs even though it was madly painful for her, some of the girls helped her massage the leg and the pain wasn’t bearable.
When they were done she thanked them so much, before they left.
Her head banged seriously, her eyes were blurry tears welled up in her eyes, the pain so intense.
She lay on the bed, her mind replaying the scene of how Mattie had purposely pushed her.
She couldn’t help but wonder if she lost her life would Julian get sad?
Astrid’s thoughts seethed with bitterness. "Of course, he wouldn’t care about me. The only person he loves is Mattie."
Her head pounded relentlessly, each beat intensifying. She lay on the bed, her twisted ankle throbbing, swollen, and tender.
As she shifted, a wave of dizziness washed over her. Her throat parched, Astrid struggled to sit up, craving water. The girls had left already and there was no way she could call for them.
With a grimace, she swung her legs over the bedside, wincing as her ankle hurt her.
She pushed herself up, using the bedside table for support. Then her gaze fell on the water bottle she had placed on her dressing mirror earlier.
Astrid hobbled toward it, happy to quench her thirst.
Just as she reached for the bottle, Julian entered the room, his expression stern. He was ready to lash out at her when his gaze fell on Astrid.
But his scowl faltered as he took in Astrid’s state. She clutched her head, her face contorted in pain.
"Astrid?" Julian’s tone softened.
Astrid’s eyes narrowed, misinterpreting his concern, expecting him to get mad at her.
"Don’t pretend to care." She unscrewed the bottle cap, wincing as her head spun.
Julian rushed to support her, surprised by her frailty. "Let me help," he said gently.
Astrid resisted, but her weakened state betrayed her. She needed to lean into Julian, his arm wrapping around her waist.
As she lifted the bottle to her lips, Julian guided her hand, helping her take a sip. The cool water soothed her parched throat.
Astrid pulled away, her eyes locked on Julian’s. For a moment, their gazes connected, and Astrid saw a flicker of genuine concern.
But she pushed it aside, not wanting him to take pity on her.
"Just leave me alone," Astrid whispered, Julian’s expression fell, but he didn’t release her.
"Please... I don’t want her to get mad at me anymore," Julian could feel the tiredness in Astrid’s tone.
"I am sorry," Julian whispered and Astrid glanced up at him in shock, "Sorry? Never expected that to be fast."
"Did she push you?" Astrid took in a deep breath and was still trying to push him away.
"I want to have a rest. My head is still banging hard," she said.
"Let’s go to the hospital," he announced and Astrid scoffed, "Hospital? After I am dead."
"Astrid.."
"Julian please, I don’t have the power to bicker, I want to rest." Julian’s hand trembled in anger.
"But you would never say no to Miles, would you?" He clamored and Astrud was stunned at his question.
"Meaning?"
"You say no to me all the time, that is what I am saying."
"You expect me to say yes? When all the yes I have ever said put me in trouble?"
"Astrid,"
"You saw me on the floor also, I wasn’t even with my glasses, but all you cared about was Mattie!" Her voice raised as she cut him off. His eyes flickered not feeling guilty
"Fine, I am stupid for getting mad that you saved the one you lived first, but the least you could do is show empathy rather than yell and threaten me," she added this time her chest heaving up and down.
Julian felt deep regret, he was sad seeing Astrid on the ground but when Mattie told him she pushed her he couldn’t think anymore.
"I am sorry,"
"I don’t need it, just let me be... I would rather say yes to Miles several times than say yes to you again!" she yelled this time but that sudden headache struck her.
Her hand grabbed her forehead as she groaned, "Astrid what is wrong?" he asked.
"I want to sleep," she murmured, after pressing her to talk.
"Astrid... but..." she snatched her hands from him, her breathing was becoming hard but she didn’t want him to see her weak side.
"Leave please, goodnight," she mumbled as she struggled to go back to bed, but that was it,
Her whole body gave up, she almost hit the ground when Julian caught her.
"Astrid," he called, he noticed her body was going weak and cold.
"Astrid," he called again, he had never been more terrified in his life than this.
She was going cold, and this time was responding much but just groaning.
"This will do, we are going to the hospital," he let out, but she still snatched her hands from him, gesturing for him not to take her there.
Julian’s eyes locked onto Astrid’s, filled with concern. Despite her rejection, he felt a pang of hurt. But he pushed aside his emotions, and focused on her well-being.
"Astrid..." he called out, his voice laced with urgency.
Astrid’s gaze began to glaze over, her body swaying. Julian’s heart sank as he noticed blood trickling from her lips.
His eyes widened in alarm. The reality hit him like a ton of bricks he needed to act fast.
With swift action, Julian scooped Astrid up from the ground, cradling her in his arms. He rushed out of the room, fear propelling him forward.
"Astrid! Astrid, respond to me!" he called out, his voice laced with desperation.
But there was no answer. Astrid’s body had gone limp in his arms, her head lolling against his chest.
