Chapter 67: CARING FOR HER
Chapter 67: CARING FOR HER
Julian stared outside and was becoming more than worried since he hadn’t caught a whiff of her.
At first, he was mad, but now he was worried, pacing around and checking his time to see it was already 6 AM.
He could catch on sleep at the thought that Astrid wasn’t back home.
He hasn’t cared for Mattie this much, she comes home late and he would just conclude she is working.
But here he is standing outside the mansion as he keeps looking out waiting for the gate to slide open and his wife driving inside.
His hands ran through his hair more than worried, he was still in deep thought when he heard a honk outside of the mansion.
He pressed the button and the gate slid open. Watching her drive in he never knew he was holding his breath until he exhaled sharply.
He stormed toward her side of the car as soon as she pulled up about to lash out at her when he noticed how her eyes were red and puffy, despite still in her lenses one could see those sad eyes.
This made him withdraw instantly, already worried about her state.
"Why? Sho hurt you? Tell me and I will destroy him or her in a second!" he couldn’t tell why he was lashing out but he was ready to destroy the person like he had just said.
But Astrid stared at him, her lips trembling terribly as that sad gaze pierced into his gaze.
He leaned closer, "Tell..." but his words were cut short when she alighted from the car and the next thing was embracing him so tight.
That was it, he lost it all when she wrapped those hands around him, he felt her body go weak and he was quick to catch on to her.
He so badly wants to know the cause of the tears. Seeing how weak she is made him curious.
Tears stream out her eyes, and she is delighted at his reaction, she had never expected she would see someone who would care for her like her mum.
"What is wrong?" his voice held worry, as he grabbed her tight but as if the question had ignited the tears her wailing increased making him regret almost immediately.
"I am so sorry, I never meant to make you cry," he apologized even though he knew nothing about this, he could only stand there comforting her.
They stood there for a while until the sun was beginning to rise. He knew he needed to take her inside of the mansion.
He helped her stand well and helped them to her room, her body was shivering already, and that made him take mental notes.
She gets cold easily, he lays her on the bed pulls out his jacket, and wraps it around her body.
Then rummaged through her closet looking for some duvet he could use but he found none.
Julian hurried up to his room and returned with a blanket, wrapping it snugly around Astrid.
Astrid snuggled deeper into the warmth, feeling a sense of comfort.
"You need something warm," Julian whispered, about to stand up when Astrid pulled him back.
Her gaze bored into his soul. "Can you feign ignorance?" she asked.
Julian narrowed his gaze at this, "On what?"
"The money... I withdrew a huge sum," Astrid replied. Julian’s eyes widened.
"I promised I had no other choice but to use your account," she explained.
Julian’s expression softened. "I can work and pay you back..." she added, and this brought a small smile to Julian’s face.
"If you are going to be truthful and not act suspicious, I will let it go," he said.
He shifted closer to her.
"If you don’t betray me, we won’t have any issues," he whispered.
Astrid felt her heart sink, recalling the kiss between Stephan and her.
She nodded, aware of Julian’s power and influence, they might show him one day but she knew it wouldn’t be now.
"Good, I will let this go, but never repeat it," Julian warned.
With that, he walked out of the room, leaving Astrid to breathe a sigh of relief.
She smiled to herself, grateful for the unexpected event. She wouldn’t betray Julian’s trust.
Not now, not ever, she needs to use the ’Logan to toe wisely she thought, recalling Maren’s advice.
A FEW HOURS LATER.
Julian walked into the room looking dressed but tired, "You can take a sick leave today," he let out and Astrid sat right on the bed.
He had made sure she ate and still made sure she was treated warmly.
"If you get cold easily, stop going into the cold without your jacket," he proclaimed sternly.
She nodded her head and then was almost walking out when he came across Miles with flowers.
"What the fuck!" Julian frowned but Miles smirked, "Good morning to you too." Miles retorted and pushed him out of the way.
"Hey Gorgeous!" he sang out as he moved closer to her, handing her the flower and Julian clenched his fist.
Astrid smelled the beautiful scent of the flower and smiled brightly. "Wow! Thanks, I love this."
"Why are you here? How did you even know she was sick?" Julian cut off their beautiful moment and Miles rolled his eyes.
"I have my source," he replied.
"Miles!" Julian growled, getting irritated already, "You have a meeting with your parents you wouldn’t want to reschedule that would you!"
Julian was irritated by this, "I am only letting this go because you are my friend, don’t do anything crazy."
Julian Walks out of the room ready to smack the door, but he can’t let his jealousy show.
The smile on Miles’ face disappeared as he glanced at Astrid.
"Did he do anything crazy?" she shook her head immediately and Miles sighed sitting beside her.
Astrid’s gaze met Miles’, her smile hinting at gratitude for his concern.
"You are sure, or you’re covering for him?" he asked again that worry laced in his eyes.
"He isn’t," she assured, and Miles’ expression softened.
Astrid’s thoughts drifted to Julian’s recent kindness, even though it was cold he chose not to ask what had happened and had just comforted her.
"He has been treating me well," she mused.
Miles’ eyes locked onto hers. "So, it’s Mattie and Stephan?" he probed.
Astrid’s eyes widened, memories of Stephan’s threats flooding back. She shook her head vehemently not wanting to be in trouble.
"No." Miles leaned in, his voice low.
"You shouldn’t fear Stephan." Astrid’s eyes clashed with Miles’, her pulse racing.
As Miles drew closer, his gaze dropped to her lips. "I can destroy him," The air thickened with tension.
Astrid’s heart pounded, her mind screaming warnings. This was Julian’s best friend, his closeness was awkwardly so wrong.
But then the closeness of Miles stirred unfamiliar feelings she couldn’t place her finger on.
"You sure?" she shook her head and just the door swung open.
Julian stood in the doorway, his eyes narrowing. The position he had met them if one didn’t move closer one would think they were kissing.
"Miles," Julian said, his voice low and stern, one could feel the anger boiling inside of him.
