Chapter 64: THE GIFT

Astrid strolls down the stairs with the thought of going to the office without anyone noticing, only to meet Julian in the living room already waiting for her.

"Good morning," Astrid greeted a bit annoyed, she was still mad at the fact he had told her he loved Mattie after kissing her.

"No eating again?" Julian replied, ignoring her greetings. She stared at him, pondering the response to give to him.

"The breakfast is ready," he added, not giving her a chance to talk.

Astrid decided to avoid conflict between them. Since Mattie is absent she knew the maid wouldn’t dare misbehave with Julian around.

"I will," Astrid replied, heading toward the dining area.

Julian swiftly caught up to her, his hand wrapping around her arm, pulling her back.

Astrid’s heart skipped a beat as she spun around, her eyes wide with surprise.

"What... what are you doing?" she stammered, her voice trembling.

Julian’s face was inches from hers, his warm breath sending shivers down her spine.

He gently touched her face, his gaze locked onto hers.

"It doesn’t hurt anymore, does it?" he asked, concern etched on his features.

Then she recalled he must be asking if her hurting jaw, her heart flattered at this as she shook her head.

Julian’s lips curled into a soothing smile and then reached up, Astrid’s hair slipped down, cascading down her back like a rich, brown waterfall.

"Hey..." Astrid whispered annoyed at Joe he had loosened her hair tie.

But Julian smiled, eyes drinking at the sight of her beautiful features.

Astrid’s cheeks flushed as she squinted at him.

"I like it this way," he said, and she scoffed and pushed him away.

"Why should I listen to you tell me how to style my hair?" She retorted and Julian chuckled.

"Becoming bold, I like that," he teased.

Astrid rolled her eyes and snatched her hair tie from his hands.

"I like it packed this way," she declared, securing her hair.

Julian smiled, his eyes never leaving hers.

The tension dissipated as they headed to the kitchen for breakfast. Their meal passed in comfortable silence.

As they finished, Astrid stood up.

"Thanks for breakfast," she said, her voice sincere.

But then again Julian’s hand shot out, catching her wrist. Astrid’s eyes flashed, ready to unleash a protest.

But instead, Julian pressed a car key into her palm. "Your car keys," he said, his eyes sparkling.

Astrid’s eyes widened, "What?" she breathed.

Her gaze dropped to the key, then back to Julian’s expectant face.

"Larry is still your chauffeur but I am giving you this to use anytime you feel like being alone,"

Astrid stared down at her hand surprised, "You... you don’t have..."

Julian placed his finger on her lips, "It’s an apology for embarrassing you in front of my staff and also for my fiance treating you badly last night,"

At the mention of his fiance, she was irritated but decided to mask her feelings.

"Thanks.." she mumbled under her breath and he nodded his head.

"You can leave.." she bobbed her head marching out of the living room still mad at how much he loved the bitch after what she had done to her.

Just then her phone message popped and it was Maren, "Good morning dear... can you find some time to come over tomorrow...I want to show you something."

She smiled at this, then she recalled she had promised to get her close to Miles if she could make her bold like her.

She stopped on her track seeing the car parked before her, her mouth ajar she ran toward it.

Then a scream escaped from her lips, she glanced toward the door to see Julian staring at her.

"This is mine!?" Julian smirked at her reaction, he was right she would love this car.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, he had gotten it for her last night after she had asked for privacy.

He knows she wasn’t the type to like much expensive shit, and this car would fit her so well.

Astrid ran back to Julian and before he could blink she embraced him real tight.

Julian’s eyes widened at this, it was the first time she had done so heartedly, and for a weird reason, he loved this.

"Thank you so much," she mumbled, still embracing him tightly.

Julian cleared his throat and then she recalled who she was embracing, "Oh... I am sorry." she mumbled and let go.

The atmosphere suddenly turned tense, "I will be off," She mumbled and then ran back to her car with her face so red.

Sliding in she felt so satisfied as he smiled from where he stood, making her smile made his heart swell.

He watched her drive out of the premises and then his smile disappeared when he felt a presence beside him.

"You must like ma’am?" Julian turned to Haton, his eyes squinted.

"Hey!"

"I have never seen you smile this way as ma’am Mattie," he added again despite the way Julian glared at him.

"The heck!" he growled, "I have somewhere important to be, get the car instead of poking your nose where it doesn’t belong." Haton nodded and then called for the car to be ready.

Astrid got to the office and pulled up, she alighted from her car with a big smile only to be met with the person he never expected to be waiting for her.

"Wh... what are you doing here?" she asked her eyes boring into that of Stephan.

"New car?" he asked, strutting toward her and she swallowed, shifting back as he moved closer.

"Stay away.." she grumbled.

"I was surprised when he asked for a new car, and more stunned he bought it in your name." Astrid swallowed hard at this.

Stephan was finally close to where she stood, he pulled her hands roughly, his grip tight and firm against her hand.

"Let me go!" she grumbled, "I warned you not to make Mattie cry,"

"Let me go.." she whispered in shock, "You know what Julian hates most?" he continued not minding her fear.

"Cheating.." Astrid raised her eyebrow at the mention of cheating.

"I would like to know what he would do seeing this," before Astrid could grasp his next action.

He pinned Astrid against the car, his lips crushing hers in a ruthless kiss.

Astrid struggled trying to push him away, fury coursing through her veins, but his grip was tight.

Her hands clenched into fists, ready to strike, but his fingers dug deeper into her waist.

Just as suddenly, he released her, shoving her to the ground. Astrid’s eyes widened, her breath catching.

Then he smirked and snapped his finger. Manny emerged from the shadows, phone in hand, a sly smile spreading across his face.

"Capture it well?" he asked and she nodded, eyes gleaming with malice.

Astrid’s heart shattered as the true extent of the blackmail dawned on her.

He squatted beside her, "Just the three of us know about this. One word to Julian, and he will stop at nothing to destroy the marriage document—and your family."

Astrid’s eyes welled up with tears, her throat constricting.

"Not just the marriage, but your entire family will suffer," he emphasized.

"Mess with me again, and this video will go viral."

With that, he walked away with Manny, following closely behind leaving Astrid shattered and helpless.
