Chapter 59: PLAYING HER BACK HER GAMES

Astrid’s eyes narrowed as she watched Manny chat with coworkers, her smile and laughter getting on Astrid’s nerves.

Two days had passed since the incident, and Astrid was determined to uncover the truth.

She has talked to Julian to give her time to find out who the culprit is, even though he is willing to listen to her.

She was willing to prove not just to him but to also make sure everyone who was planning to bully her in the future never dared.

Maren now has her contact details since Miles removed her contact from privacy, and they are both chatting.

She would play the same game Manny had played on her, she watched Manny come back to her seat.

Just then Astrid approaches Manny with a friendly smile.

"Good morning, Manny," Astrid greeted, her tone light. Manny felt awkward, sensing a trap.

"Hey, Manny! How’s it going?" Astrid asked again.

Manny looked up, wary. "It’s going... well. What’s up?" she replied flatly.

Astrid’s eyes locked onto Manny’s. "Just wanted to check in. You seem stressed lately."

Manny shrugged. "Just workload, you know?" she retorted again, still having that worry etched on her face.

Astrid nodded sympathetically. "I get it. We should grab lunch and vent about it," she replied.

She didn’t understand why Astrid was suddenly this way with Her but she felt like she should know what plans she had installed for her so she knew her next move.

Manny’s expression softened, and for a moment, Astrid saw this as a way of getting her.

"Sounds nice, Astrid. Thanks for offering." Manny replied, even though she doesn’t trust Astrid.

Manny still feels she could bully Astrid and embarrass her in front of the whole staff.

While Astrid on the other hand has her trick up her sleeves. They both tapped away on their computer until it was lunch break.

As they walked to the break room, Manny was the first to call out on Astrid. "Hey.." every other staff member’s eyes turned to Manny, surprised at how she had used a gentle voice to call her out.

"Aren’t you going for the lunch you beg me we go together for?" Astrid looked up from her computer and that small smile played on her lip as she raised her glasses to see clearly.

"Of course, I am so happy you planned to be my friend," Astrid replied as she stood from her seat.

They both walked out of the office, Astrid being extra friendly with Manny as they ordered their food.

"I convinced Julian to give me time to investigate. I want to prove my innocence and ensure no one bullies me again."

Astrid stated as they both had their seats with their food now on their table.

Manny’s eyes flickered m as Ashe poked her fork into her salad, "What?" her voice barely above a whisper.

"Well... I only want to apologize to you since I have finally gotten who left the document in the printer,"

"Apologize?"

"The lady you were chatting with in the morning, seems to be interesting don’t you think you shouldn’t chat with her that much so it doesn’t put you in much trouble when the Joss finds out." Manny’s appetite was gone at this rate.

"You think she is the one who tried to sabotage you?" Astrid smiled and nodded as she scooped her food into her mouth.

She has been skipping breakfast in the morning, ever since she retaliated at Mattie.

She was pretty sure Mattie would be cooking up something crazy, but she wanted to be done with Manny before going back to Mattie.

"Let’s work together on Project Nova. We can share the workload." Astrid suggested trying to divert her attention.

"What?"Manny’s interest piqued.

"It’s an apology for thinking you were the one who had tried to sabotage me." Immediately Manny agreed.

The Nova project is big, and if they both worked on it together she would also have her share.

Thrilled they both discussed excitedly till their break was over and now back to their position.

Astrid worked on her files editing and reviewing for a while until she decided to excuse herself from her position.

The crazy plan came to Manny’s head once more, seeing that no eyes were on her.

Manny went toward Astrid’s computer to log in since Astrid hadn’t put in a password on her computer.

She saw the file where Astrid had named the file "Nova Project," confidential and eyes only.

She sent them to the printer smiling bitterly as she went back to her position.

She knew if another incident of the project went around again, this would put Astrid in serious trouble and the boss wouldn’t forgive her this time around.

Astrid walked back to her position and feigned not eating when she did her ordeal.

Just then they heard a gasp,

"This?"

"The Nova’s project!" Astrid looked up in shock, "It’s sent to every printer and..."

"Oh my goodness it’s confidential!" murmurs spread out like wildfire as different floors began sending messages to the company site.

Manny was shocked she had sent it out to the whole printer, she had expected it to be just the one beside them and then she acted like she saw it and reported it again. But this still works in her favor.

Julian walked out of his office in shock, reading the site and everyone ran back to the space.

"Shut the fucking system down!"Julian yelled as every damn worker was turned off.

"What is the meaning of this Astrid!" he yelled, as she lowered her head feigning she also didn’t understand what was happening.

"Boss... I... I.." she stammered and then looked around.

"Nova Project! Ehyvthe fuvk is that going round!" she shook her head.

"I promise I know nothing about it," Astrid let out.

"I didn’t print..." Julian pulled her out of the way going to her space as he checked out the system to see that it was truly printed out of her system.

"What the fuck is this if you aren’t the one!" he yelled, Astrid shook her head.

"I didn’t, I promised... I stepped out for a few seconds, I find..," Astrid gaped and then looked at Manny whose eyes widened.

"Manny... are you behind this?" Manny glared up as she rose from her chair.

"Of course not, I know nothing about this, are you trying to put me in some trouble?"

"But you are the only one I told.."

"What proof do you have that you told me? Stop lying and trying to sabotage my work! This is my sweat I wouldn’t want to play with!"

"But that was the reason you went to lunch with me, because you know you will get some shares," Murmurs erupted as they began whispering among themselves.

"See... she was extremely friendly with me in the afternoon because of a deal... I thought we could be buddies?" Astrid feigns almost in tears.

"Evidence that I did it! Give me the fucking evidence!"

Then Astrid looked up, "Evidence you say?" all eyes turned up to see a CCTV directed to their space.

They gasped at this, "There was no... camera there before.." Manny cried out in shock and she almost lost her balance.

"Why don’t we all watch it and see who is real.."

"Enough!" Julian yelled, making Astrid shit her lips, one could tell he was furious, ready to burn.

"Astrid and Manny are in the office now!" Astrid smirked as Julian walked away, then she smirked at her.

Then tagged along with them, Manny’s heart raced in fear, she was so scared she ran to her desk with her phone as she texted someone.

"Manny! You wouldn’t want the boss to call for you the second time!" Ryan let out and she breathes in and out now tagging along with him.

She walked into the office which was having a furious Julian, "How dare you mess with my project!" he yelled and Astrid lowered her head speechless.

Manny fell to her knees immediately, "Boss... I promise she is trying to sabotage me,"

"The video..." Julian announced and then Ryan came forward handing his phone to Julian.

"This is the video sent to us from the office," Fast-forwarding through the video, Astrid’s heart raced, hoping it showed what she wanted.

After a few seconds of silence, Julian moved closer to Astrid.

"I thought you said she sent it to the printer?" Astrid looked a bit stunned.

"Yes..." Julian pushed the phone onto her face, "Then what is this?"

Astrid watched it only to find out that everything stopped as she walked out of her position.

The place where Manny was typing on her system was no longer there.

"What? No.." Astrid snatched the phone from Julian, "This can’t be true... I saw her typing on my computer."

Julian sighed and then glanced at Manny, "You may go back to your space," Julian announced.

"What? She couldn’t do it, so she sent it to the printer. She is the one trying to sabotage me!" Astrid yelled.

"Thanks, boss!" Manny appreciated standing from a kneeling position.

"What? She can’t go freely... she.." Astrid lost it, she tried to run toward Manny but Julian pulled her back.

"Astrid!" He tried to control her but she was out of it ready to attack until someone pulled her back and smacked her across her face.

Astrid fell to the ground and looked up only to be met with Mattie’s mum.
