Chapter 52: A MEETING WITH MR. BECKER
The next morning Astrid dressed casually, covering her scarred palm with a loose-fitting sleeve.
She wore a skirt and leggings to conceal the scratches on her leg and let her hair down to hide the marks on her neck.
With a deep breath, she walked downstairs, relieved to find the area empty.
Her stomach growled, but fear kept her from eating. She decided to grab something outside, avoiding potential trouble.
As she stepped out, Larry approached. "Where are you going?’" he asked, confusion etched on his face.
"’To the office,’" Astrid replied, her voice firm.
Larry glanced toward the door, and Astrid shot him a warning look.
"Fine... ma’am, I dare not say no to you," Larry approved, driving them off the premises.
The previous night’s events replayed in Astrid’s mind, stirring emotions. How could Mattie be so heartless and cruel? Her mind kept asking.
They arrived at the office, and Astrid swiftly scheduled meetings for Julian. Her priority was Mr. Becker, Julian’s first meeting of the day.
For how Astrid could persuade Mr. Becker to change his mind. It would remain a secret for now.
As she worked, Astrid’s focus wavered, memories of Mattie’s malice lingering.
Julian checked his email and was stunned to see the schedule Astrid had prepared. He gently disentangled his arm from sleepy Mattie’s grasp to get ready for the meeting.
"Hey Ryan, what’s with my schedule?" Julian asked over the phone.
"He came back just like you wanted," Ryan replied. Julian’s excitement grew.
He stepped into the bathroom to shower and dress. When he walked out, Mattie’s expression had darkened as she rested her back against the headboard of the bed.
"Hey babe, good morning," Julian greeted, and he kissed her wounded wrist.
"Where are you going this early? You promised to be with me the whole day," Mattie argued, her voice laced with frustration.
Julian recalled his promise from the previous night, but that was only because she forced him to do so when he was treating her wrist.
"’My client is back, I need to be in the office as early as possible,’" Julian explained as he kissed her forehead.
But Mattie’s grip on Julian tightened. "Hey... I am going to miss you,’" she whispered.
Mattie deepened the kiss, and Julian hesitated before gently prying her off.
After a few minutes, Mattie released him with a small smile and placed a kiss on his neck, leaving a hickey.
"’Have a good day; I have to model for Maximus Airlines today. I won’t be coming back here,’" Mattie said and Julian nodded.
Then Julian exited the room, on his way to the living room he glanced at Astrid’s door, puzzled at how she had sent him an email.
He got to the living room to see Ryan greet him. "Good day, boss."
"’Surprisingly, Mr. Becker came back, he had contacted Mrs. Logan to arrange another meeting,’" Ryan updated.
"’Wow,’" Julian breathed, wondering how got her contact details.
They got to the office, and the guard greeted him warmly.
"Welcome, boss." The other staff paused to acknowledge Julian’s arrival.
He passed by Astrid’s desk, where she tapped away on her computer, seemingly oblivious to his presence.
He was surprised she had come this early to the office, "Good morning.." he greeted, she was too lost to hear him talking,
Until he tapped on the desk and then she lifted her head, "Good morning boss." she let out in a flat tone, and Julian felt guilty seeing her shit him with that gaze.
"Are you sure about the meeting you had scheduled?" he asked wanting to strike up a conversations
She nodded her head and continued what she was doing.
This got Julian irritated and he slapped her desk again, "Your coffee is in the office sir... and the file which you had asked me to go through is all arranged," She let out.
Ryan got confused by the sudden cold response coming from Astrid, but he did not dare butt into their issues.
Julian was stunned as he could only stare at her for a while, why Manny was getting irritated with how she was getting the boss’ attention?
"Let’s go to the meeting together," he announced noticing, she wouldn’t have eaten.
Astrid’s head whipped up hearing this, "I told you we will go to every meeting so you can work on your worth."
She sighed recalling the reason Mattie had punished her but she still did not say no to him also knowing his temperament.
"Fine," Astrid groaned, standing from her seat.
Julian couldn’t help but be surprised by her dress. Then, he noticed her hands and his concern grew.
"’What happened to your...’" Julian started, but Astrid cut him off.
"We would be late, let’s go already," she said brusquely, walking past him.
Ryan suppressed a chuckle at Julian’s startled expression.
"A word and my hand would be shoving down your throat," Julian muttered under his breath, annoyed at how Astrid was acting with him.
"Which car are you taking?" Astrid asked, "We will be going in my car," Julian replied and Astrid got into the car before Julian could react.
Ryan took the passenger seat, while Julian and Astrid sat in the back.
The ride was silent, with Astrid lost in thought, reflecting on the chaotic events of her past weeks.
Upon arrival at the restaurant, the waiter greeted them warmly.
"Welcome, Mr. Logan. We have been expecting you. Mr. Becker said you can proceed to the VIP section."
Julian instructed the waiter to lead the way, and she did so immediately.
As they entered the VIP section, Mr. Becker stood, and Julian extended a handshake.
"Good day, Mr. Becker," Julian greeted.
"Wow... it’s an honor to have you as my client again," Julian said.
"Well, all thanks should go to your secretary, who made me reconsider and return to your company," Mr. Becker said, glancing at Astrid in surprise.
While Astrid maintained a small smile.
"Good morning, Mr. Becker. I am pleased you honored my invitation,’" Astrid said.
Just then, a voice interrupted. "But I am not,’" Rowan said, walking in.
Astrid’s eyes widened in surprise, followed by a bright smile.
"Rowan!" Astrid exclaimed.
Julian’s eyes narrowed, taken aback by Astrid’s reaction.
