Chapter 48: MEETING HIM AGAIN

Chapter 48: MEETING HIM AGAIN

"Why make me believe I am having a meeting with him by 4 when it’s in the morning?" Astrid was speechless at this, Manny never explained that to her but just shoved the files into her hand leaving her to do the job.

All eyes turned to Astrid as they held the faulting gaze, they had never seen their boss lose it this way before.

Julian’s hands ran through his hands in frustration, then Ryan moved closer gesturing for him to control himself in front of the employees.

He glanced at Astrid whose eyes never stared at him but were lowered and then he kicked the desk one more time before striding into his office.

Chill ran down Astrid’s spine as knew eyes were all on her, "Back to your business or you face your home." Ryan announced getting them back to their job.

Astrid on the other hand didn’t know what to do other than just stand there demoralized and looking ridiculous.

She didn’t plan to cause a scene on the first day of her job.

"You are just not good for the job, I don’t get why you should be the secretary," Manny proclaimed and Ryan glared at her.

Astrid fidgeted with hands as he waited for Ryan’s orders.

"Mrs. Logan... I get it’s your first time doing your job, but he has been trying to land this client for a while," he paused to see the guilt in Astrid’s eyes.

"Making a fool out of his client had pissed the boss off,"

Astrid’s head lowered as she sighed again, "I am sorry... it was a bit hard for me to arrange, I will make it up to him."

"Just let it be and you can come to apologize a few minutes later when he isn’t fuming," Ryan glanced at Manny having his suspicions that she was the reason Julian had missed this opportunity.

"Just be careful next time," he advised and then left.

When Ryan left, Astrid opened the file sent to her and it’s just like Manny had sent it to her.

They left and Astrid turned to Manny, "Why didn’t you tell me?" Manny scoffed out as she looked around feigning shock.

"Are you trying to use the boss wife card on me so he would be mad at me too?" Murmurs erupted from other employees, as Astrid’s hand grew sweaty..

"I am only trying to make you see..." Astrid tried pushing the files in her face but then Manny slapped her hands off and then pretended to act like Astrid had just slapped her.

She gaped and this time the team employee’s eyes were now focused on them again.

"Goodness.." how could she do that?" one of them yelled out without even seeing the whole thing.

Manny placed her hands on her cheek now happy she had caught their attention.

"I never knew you didn’t know the schedule.."

Astrid eyes darted around, and her muscles tensed up.

"She must be a bully,"

"No wonder she isn’t beautiful."

"I wonder how Miss Adam feels every day to get her man to be with someone ugly like her."

It was the first day already and Astrid had created a series of scenes, "I didn’t mean to hit you.." I was the only one.

"Keep it, you got your way into the boss hall and got married to him, you also got your position, now what?" Astrid was frustrated to the core.

"What is going on here? Why the noise?" Ryan asked, his voice lace cold and eerie.

"Nothing, only trying to tell her I know nothing, she is trying to accuse me of and all of a sudden she slapped me." Ryan glanced at Astrid to see the shocking gaze on her face.

It’s just like the high school days, she dropped out because of the constant bullying, and she is tired.

Can’t she for once in her life have a good day without causing any scene?

"Mrs. Logan, the boss wants to see you," Ryan announced, his voice firm.

Astrid’s heart skipped a beat. She felt a flutter in her chest.

"Maybe he’s planning to fire her," a snide voice whispered nearby.

"She doesn’t deserve to work here." Another voice chimed in.

As she approached Julian’s office, she braced herself for another confrontation.

Julian’s door swung open, revealing Mattie lounged on Julian’s thigh, her head resting on his shoulder.

Julian typed away on his laptop, oblivious to Astrid’s presence. A pang of insecurity struck Astrid.

She couldn’t imagine being that comfortable with Julian. Her weight, her appearance, everything seemed inadequate.

Julian’s gaze lifted, locking onto Astrid." Mattie’s eyes sparkled with malice as they met with Astrid.

He is still mad at what he had lost but it wasn’t going to pull him down just that he was sure now Rowan would use this to tease him.

His eyes laid in hers, and the guilt feeling hit him deep, how she didn’t argue and had only apologized.

She had told him she was a high school dropper. He shouldn’t have embarrassed her that way.

"Causing a scene on your first day already?" The words escaped his lip and he shut his eyes disappointed he didn’t tell her to come so he could taunt her again.

"I told you she isn’t worth your time, not like she even went to college," Astrid eyes met with that of Julian as he was also surprised that Mattie knew that already.

Astrid felt sad seeing Julian even tell Mattiee

she didn’t attend college and she would use that against her.

"I am sorry, I will make it up to you." Astrid mustered the courage to complete her words as she held in the tears.

"Make it up to him?" Mattie asked as she stood from Julian’s thigh.

"What did you call this place? Your waiter jobs?" Astrid gulped down nervously.

"Julian you could just fire her, she is of no use to you. A better graduate would take on this job." She suggested.

"Give me a second chance I promise I won’t embarrass you again," Astrid pleaded and Mattie bursted out laughing.

"Julian..."

"You can leave for your position." Julian cut Mattie off, and Ryan felt pleased with this.

He has a greater feeling that Manny had done this on purpose and used this to make Astrid feel embarrassed.

Astrid trudged out of the office, her spirits crushed. She works past her office, seeking refuge in the restroom.

The door swung shut behind her, and Astrid finally let go. Tears streamed down her face as she grasped the sink, her body shaking.

She stifled a sob, desperate to silence her pain. The pain cut deep, a constant barrage of bullying and ridicule.

Even strangers joined in, eager to mock and belittle. Astrid’s reflection stared back, eyes red and puffy.

After several minutes, she gathered her composure. With trembling hands, Astrid wiped away her tears.

She breathed deeply, exhaling slowly, seeking calm.

The restroom’s sterile silence enveloped her, a reprieve.

Astrid’s gaze lingered on her reflection, "You can do this," She whispered, hoping it would be of help.

Astrid’s tears blurred her vision as she gazed into the mirror, but was met with shock.

"Never expected a beautiful girl to cry," a deep male voice said.

Her eyes snapped up, locking onto the reflection beside hers.

"Rowan," Her body stiffened, memories of their last encounter flooding back.

"You..." she whispered, shock etched on her face.

Rowan’s eyes crinkled at the corners. "Did I remind you of something?" Astrid’s hands balled into fists, ready to strike.

"You pervert! What are you doing in the female restroom?" she demanded.

But when Rowan swiftly grasped her wrists, before she could struggle, male voices approached.

"Well, that should be me asking you the question," Astrid retorted.

"What?"

"You are in the male restroom," he told her and this made her eyes widen.

Only then did realization dawned, she was in the male restroom. Embarrassment washed over her.

Rowan swiftly reacted, shielding her with his jacket.

"Let’s get you out of here," he whispered, guiding her out of the restroom.
