Chapter 46: A RUINED MORNING
Chapter 46: A RUINED MORNING
Astrid stood before the mirror, her eyes shining with excitement as she smoothed the delicate fabric of her tea-green trousers.
The soft light dancing across the room highlighted the subtle sheen of the material, accentuating her curves
As she adjusted the fit, her gaze wandered to the cream-colored blouse perfectly complementing the trousers.
The buttons tracing the front seemed to gleam in the soft light, drawing her attention.
Today is her first time having a better job and she had decided to pick one of the dresses Maren picked for her, the previous day.
But it was the way the outfit made her feel that truly mattered.
Astrid’s dark hair framed her round face, styled in loose waves that cascaded down her shoulders.
Her makeup was subtle yet enhancing soft pink lips curved into a warm smile, defined brows framed her bright eyes and muted gold and bronze eyeshadow complemented her skin tone.
With a final tug on the trousers, Astrid’s confidence surged. The tea-green fabric skimmed her hips and thighs, bringing out her femininity.
The cream-colored blouse draped elegantly, framing her full bust.
As a chubby woman, Astrid had
often struggled to find outfits that made her feel beautiful, but today was different all because of Maren.
Today, she felt professional and ready to tackle the day.
Her reflection showed a stunning woman, brimming with self-assurance.
Astrid’s excitement for the day ahead is measured as she shouldered her bag.
She walked out of her room tracing her step down the stairs gently.
But her smile dissipated seeing Julian and Mattie making out in the living room.
Her heart felt like it was ripped open, how could she forget it was just for a short time Julian could never want to make someone like her his wife.
She felt like going back to her room, but she wasn’t allowing anything to ruin her. She wouldn’t want to distract them so as not to get on Mattie’s bad side.
She had found out Mattie traveled for weeks because she hadn’t been coming to make her life a mess.
Julian’s eyes met with that of Astrid and they widened in shock, he pushed Mattie away feeling a bit guilty.
He couldn’t help but ask himself why he felt guilty when the one he loves is Mattie.
"Julian... common I came here from the airplane because of how much I had missed you," She let out with a pouty lip and Astrid felt like pulling her hair out of irritation.
Mattie noticed their eyes and traced them back, only to be met with one of her greatest rivals.
"Wow... you look different.." Mattie let out, but Astrid could feel the tease in her tone.
"She won’t allow her to ruin her mood," She thought as Maren’s words echoed in her head.
"Good morning to you too." Astrid retorted, her tone laced with sarcasm.
Julian was surprised with how she had responded, "Hey.." Mattie felt disrespected by her promise and was about to go to her but Julian pulled her back.
Mattie snatched her hands from Julian, "Is this what you both have been doing in my absence?"
Julian sighed, "Nope, Mum came and she made us go shopping. You don’t want me saying no to her, do you?"
"Julian, she took a picture with Maren, you know how Maren is so important to me," Julian turned to stare at him, "I am here babe," he assured her and placed a small kiss on her forehead.
"You sure?" she countered back and Astrid rolled her eyes at them.
She strutted to the dining room and didn’t miss the scoff Mattie had thrown her way, she still wasn’t allowing anybody to get on her bad side this morning.
"Foodie... now I get why you are this fat," Julian pulled her arms but she rolled her eyes back at him.
They all have their seats with Astrid sitting opposite them. She decided to settle for a sandwich in the morning so as not to be in for another talk of the town.
"Now I think about it Julian, why is she dressed like she got a job?" Julian exchanges glances with Astrid and turns to Mattie.
"She is my new secretary," Mattie’s eyes widened.
"What the fuck! She doesn’t even deserve to be closer to you... secretary... What about Manny?"
"Manny?" Julian asked and this irritated Mattie more.
"See? You hardly recognized other girls but you are getting closer to this bitch!" Astrid felt herself losing her appetite bit by bit.
She can’t understand why the heck she just would find every way to make her feel stupid.
"You are being disrespectful Mattie," Julian corrected her.
"You love me like that, how come you are suddenly correcting me for my behavior which you got used to?" Julian shut his eyes frustrated, as he took in a deep breath.
"Babe... she needs to earn what she enjoys, so let it be.." only then did Astrid understand something.
Despite Maren trying to help be her model, Julian kept refusing she wouldn’t want anyone competing with his girl, Astrid smiled bitterly at this.
How could she expect him to care for her? She ruined his wedding, he wouldn’t want her to succeed.
"You are only lucky to be his secretary," Mattie snarled and then she paused, staring at Astrid’s dress intensely.
"Hold on... isn’t this one of the dresses that she had launched?" Astrid looked down now recalling Maren also mentioning that.
"Yeah... any problem with that?" Julian replied, Astrid could see how Mattie was fuming.
"You got it for her," Mattie exclaimed and Julian dropped his spoon.
"Thanks for the good, " Astrid let out before Julian could get to respond.
She just wants to leave already, she is sick and tired of having her around.
"You full, common you don’t have to be shy around me, you can only get the opportunity to spend my man’s money in a year, use it wisely before going back to your slum." Astrid took a deep breath and stood up leaving.
Julian felt bad for her, but He wasn’t ready to piss Mattie off again. He understood she had every right to be mad at him if he was going to continue treating Astrid as nicely as he treated her.
He could only watch Astrid Walk off not looking back for once and this weird was making guilt eat him so deep.
