Chapter 34: HE WOULD FIND OUT THE ONE BEHIND HER BRIUSE.

Astrid’s voice pierced the air, her words laced with pain.

"It hurts... Julian..." She thrashed around on the bed, trapped in a nightmare.

Julian swiftly moved to her side, trying to rouse her from the nightmare.

As he gently shook her, Astrid’s hands shot up, encircling his neck with a desperate grip.

Julian’s eyes widened slightly, but he didn’t flinch.

Instead, he whispered softly, trying to calm her down. "Hey... it’s a nightmare... wake up, Astrid." His voice was soothing.

Astrid’s fingers tightened around Julian’s neck, her nails digging into his skin.

Her eyes remained closed, her face contorted in a mixture of fear and pain.

Julian’s hands carefully pried at her fingers, trying to loosen her grip without startling her further.

As he worked to free himself, Julian’s expression remained calm, his eyes filled with concern. He leaned in closer, his lips inches from Astrid’s ear. "Shh... it’s okay... I am here... you’re safe," he whispered, his warm breath caressing her skin.

"Hey. Astrid, wake up..." Julian tried to get her awake but still there was no response.

He was frustrated not knowing what to do, having no other choice he pulled her up and embraced her.

But it made her scream, "Let me go! Please... don’t hurt me.."

Julian let her go instantly, watching tears trickle down her eyes, he pondered on what had triggered her.

"It’s me, Julian... I wouldn’t hurt you..." Julian said in a more calm voice as he tried to persuade her out of her nightmare.

Slowly, Astrid’s grip relaxed, her fingers releasing their hold on Julian’s neck.

Her body trembled, and her eyes fluttered open, unfocused and wild.

Julian’s hands cradled her face, his thumbs stroking her cheeks as he whispered reassurances, guiding her back to reality.

She finally managed to open her eyes, and they met Julian’s concerned gaze. She couldn’t see his face clearly but his voice showed he was the one.

Her hands had wrapped around him, seeking comfort. Julian’s heart ached to see her so vulnerable, He hadn’t brought her to Paris to see them suffer through nightmares and pain.

"What’s wrong? Why were you crying?" Julian asked softly, but Astrid remained silent, still embracing him tightly.

Though she clung to him, her eyes seemed distant, lost in her world.

"I want to go back..." her voice whispered, barely audible.

"I don’t want to stay in Paris anymore..." The words hung in the air, making Julian’s expression softened.

"Will that make you stop crying?" Julian asked, Astrid slowly nodded her head.

"Consider it done... we will leave tomorrow... if that’s what you want." He spoke gently, trying to reassure her.

Astrid slowly disengaged from the embrace, her eyes locking onto Julian’s.

"Thank you..." she whispered, her voice laced with a hint of sadness.

"I promise not to disturb you anymore..." The words pierced Julian’s chest like a sharp dagger.

"You should go to bed now so I will make arrangements to leave tomorrow." He told her.

She stared at him for a while and Julian for a moment thought she couldn’t hear him.

"Astrid?" he called, and then a small smile tugged on her lips making him confused.

"I like it when you call my name," she whispered to him. Now he thinks of it, he feels satisfied once he sees her smiling.

At first, when he had seen her rolling on the bed violently, he was ready to destroy anyone that she mentioned was the cause of her pain.

Seeing the only thing she wanted was to leave Paris, he would grant that instantly.

"Go back to bed," he instructed but her hands immediately on his index finger.

"I... I..." She tried talking but stopped on the way.

"What is it? You can tell me and I would do it for you." he let out and then her gaze met with him.

"Please... I am scared... stay for the night.." Julian snickered at this and Astrid could swear she felt her heartbeat almost immediately hearing his snicker.

"You can go to sleep, I am sitting right here watching you," he told her.

The thought of her promising Stephan to stay away from Julian flashed through her head and she let go of his index finger.

She couldn’t tell the crazy things Mattie would do this time around if she gotta know they were this close.

Julian didn’t miss the terrified gaze she had on, "Are you having any problem again?" But then she shook her head.

Then she lay on the bed, trying to avoid grasping his finger.

Those gazes staring deep

Into his, he couldn’t help but feel a weird familiarity as they stared at her.

He had always had this weird feeling ever since he noticed her real eyes.

Now they are staring into his eyes, and that weird feeling keeps crawling toward him again.

Gently he shifted closer to her, patting her hair, "Hoping she would sleep soon.."

Astrid eyes were so wide open, they seemed to stare into that of his but looked so lost.

"You sure nothing happened?" He couldn’t help but think about the reasons she suddenly had a nightmare.

She shook her head almost immediately, and then he didn’t ask anymore.

The room was surrounded by silence as Julian gently helped Astrid drift off to sleep.

After almost an hour of soothing her, she finally succumbed to sleep.

Julian’s gaze fell upon her peaceful face, and he felt a surge to admire his wife.

Since she couldn’t see him clearly, he took the opportunity to truly look at her, admiring her beauty.

However, his gaze was soon diverted to the strange bruises on her neck.

His curiosity got the better of him, and he reached out to touch the marks pondering on what it might be.

The moment his hands touched her, Astrid flinched, her eyes snapping open wide.

Julian was taken aback, realizing how difficult it had been to calm her down.

"Go back to sleep," he whispered, trying to reassure her.

Astrid obeyed, her eyelids fluttering closed once more. But this time, she reached out, grasping Julian’s hand and pulling it towards her. She wrapped her hands around his, placing it over her heart.

The gesture left Julian speechless.

He was surprised by her vulnerability, and his instincts told him to let her have her way tonight.

"Stay tonight with me, please," she murmured, her eyes closed gently.

Julian shot her an amused glance, but his mind was already racing with questions.

"Finding out what the heck had happened that day" became his top priority.

This was the first time Astrid had shown such vulnerability in his presence, and he knew something had triggered it.

He would find out what it was, how she got this bruise, and would make sure to make the one behind it suffer.
