Chapter 265: PILLOW FIGHT
It was already around 3 am, and Julian still wasn’t back. Astrid couldn’t shake off the feeling of emptiness that had settled in her chest.
She had grown accustomed to Julian’s presence, and his absence felt like a gaping hole. She lay in bed, tears streaming down her face as she thought about their argument earlier.
Astrid still couldn’t sleep, she kept thinking about Julian’s words, the way he had threatened to leave her. Was he planning to and one her and not come back tonight? She thought sadly.
The thought sent a wave of panic through her, and she jumped out of bed, running to the door.
Just as she reached the door, it swung open, and Julian stood before her, his eyes bleary from drink. "Julian..." she cried out not caring about his drunk state he flung herself into his arms, embracing him tightly.
"I thought you wouldn’t come back," she sobbed, her tears soaking into his shirt.
Julian’s resolve melted at the sight of his wife’s tears. Despite his intoxication, he could still control himself around Astrid. He pulled her back, looking into her eyes.
"I am sorry," Astrid said, her voice shaking. "I promise I won’t talk about Mattie anymore...."
Julian’s expression softened, he leaned closer to her and he kissed her roughly shutting her up, his lips bruising hers.
Astrid felt a spark of desire ignite within her, and she kissed him back, her arms wrapping around his neck relief at the fact he came back.
As they broke apart for air, Julian’s eyes locked onto hers. "You promised not to talk about Mattie anymore," he reminded her, his voice husky.
Astrid nodded, her eyes shining with tears. "I promise," she whispered.
Julian’s gaze narrowed. "And you won’t assume that I don’t care about you anymore, will you?"
Astrid shook her head, feeling a pang of regret. "I am sorry, Julian. I know you care about me. I was just scared."
Julian’s expression softened, and he lifted Astrid into his arms, cradling her like a child. "I am sorry too, Astrid," he whispered, his voice filled with remorse. "I never meant to make you cry."
He also mumbled a bit drunk but trying to control himself, "You drive yourself home?" Astrid asked and he nodded his head.
Astrid felt like yelling at him for driving drunk but the fear of him getting mad at her again made her shut her mouth, she only gestured for him to come inside the room.
She helped him lay on the bed as she lay beside him, her arms wrapping around him like he would dissipate from her sight any moment from now.
"I was scared something might have happened to you," Julian finally said to her after a long silence.
"What?" she asked, confused.
"The fact that my wife went to one of the most notorious cartels in town without telling me makes me furious," Julian said, his voice low.
Astrid avoided his gaze, knowing she was also at fault. "I know, I am sorry," she whispered.
Julian’s expression softened, and he placed a gentle kiss on her head. "I want my wife to trust me, to tell me everything about herself. I love treating my woman like delicate glass, making her feel safe and protected."
Astrid listened intently, her head on his chest, as she felt his heartbeat slow down. "I want you to rely on me so much that you will come to me with every problem, every fear, and every dream," Julian continued. "But I guess I have pushed you too hard, made you feel like you can’t rely on me."
Astrid smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her chest.
"You were busy, I didn’t want to have you carrying my burden." Astrid let out in her defense.
"I never complained Love. You are more important than my job."
"Really?" she asked in delight and Julian smiled. "You are, Astrid. You mean the world to me."
Astrid’s smile faltered, and she looked up at Julian with a serious expression.
"Landon threatened me when I went to see Grandad," she finally let out, making Julian’s body tense, and he froze, his eyes locked on Astrid’s face.
"Landon came to the hospital?" he asked his voice tight with concern.
Astrid nodded, her eyes never leaving Julian’s face. "He can gain access to wherever he sets his mind to, but I don’t think he wants to hurt me."
Julian’s expression darkened, and he sat up, his eyes blazing with intensity. "Don’t start with me, Astrid. Landon is not to be trusted. What exactly was your deal with him?"
Astrid took a deep breath before answering. "I agreed to clear his name, and in return, he wouldn’t hurt my family. But now that Mattie is planning to hurt Dad, I don’t think Landon should be trusted."
Julian’s eyes narrowed, his mind racing with possibilities. "We will see about that," he muttered.
"They need your help," Astrid let out again.
"Astrid, The Zach Adams I know is not that stupid, his whole property file wouldn’t be in his house. He invests too much to lose." Julian explained but Astrid wasn’t ready to listen to this.
"Julian, common... what about the transfer?" Julian nodded his head in approval, already tired.
"Fine I will take care of it but you have to let me know your next action."
Astrid sat down on the bed staring at Julian now, he flickered his eyes wondering why she sat down.
Astrid’s eyes widened in mock outrage as she raised her pillow. "You... end the relationship?" she asked, her voice trembling now annoyed recalling his words.
Julian’s eyes darted to the pillow in her hand, and he suddenly recalled why he had deserved her anger.
"Oh...I was..." he began, but his words were cut short when Astrid hit him squarely with the pillow.
"You made me cry after what you did!" she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with mirth.
Julian held up his hands in defense, laughing. "Hey! Hey, I am sorry!" he apologized, but Astrid just continued to hit him with the pillow, giggling uncontrollably.
Finally, Julian had had enough. He jumped out of bed, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Since you want this," he muttered, pulling out his pillow as he pushed her down on the bed.
Astrid squealed with delight as Julian began to hit her softly with the pillow, pulling her down onto the bed. The room was filled with the sound of their laughter and giggles, and for a moment, everything else was forgotten.
As they continued to playfully spar with each other, Astrid felt her heart fill with joy.
Finally, they collapsed onto the bed, exhausted and giggling. Julian wrapped his arms around Astrid, pulling her close. "I am sorry again," he whispered, his lips brushing against her ear.
Astrid smiled, feeling happy and content. "I forgive you," she whispered back, snuggling deeper into his arms.
