Chapter 260: TAKEN INTEREST IN HER

The maid’s eyes narrowed, and she looked around nervously. "Ma’am, what if she finds out, it could mean the end of me," she whispered.

Astrid smiled reassuringly. "Don’t worry, I will take care of you. Let’s say indirectly you will be working for me, not Adams. And I promise you, I will make it worth your while."

The maid’s eyes sparkled with curiosity, still in hesitation wondering if to agree to Astrid’s proposal.

Then Astrid pulled out her phone and handed it to the maid, "You can put your details in this, and you will never regret it."

"Ma’am," But Astrid pushed in her phone, gesturing for her to type in her contact details.

She couldn’t say no and did as Astrid had told her, Astrid smiled, saving the contact.

"Your name?" she asked, "Paige... My name is Paige," she said and Astrid saved it.

"By typing in your details, you are aware that you are committing to work with me." she goes down loudly and Astrid understands her reaction.

"I am not evil, but I suspect Mattie is up to something, and I need your help to keep an eye on her."

Just then, Miles strolled into the room, a questioning look on his face.

"What’s going on here?" he asked, his eyes scanning the scene before him,

Astrid’s smile grew wider as she turned to Miles. "I have taken a liking to this maid, and I think I might make her mine."

Miles raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. "You don’t fancy maids, Astrid. What’s so special about this one?"

Astrid’s eyes sparkled with amusement. "Because I believe she wouldn’t betray me,"

Miles chuckled, his eyes glinting with approval. "No one would dare betray you, Astrid, not if they don’t want to get on the bad side of the three most powerful families in the city."

The girl’s eyes widened in alarm, and Astrid laughed, pulling her into a warm embrace. "Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you," she whispered, her voice reassuring. "I am placing my hope in you, and I know you won’t let me down," Astrid assures the girl.

"Thanks, ma.." with that, she ran out and then Miles moved closer to her.

"Why do I feel you are becoming worse than my girl?" Astrid turned to him with a sneaky smile.

"I might have learned the hard way," Miles chuckled at this as he placed both hands on her shoulder pulling her closer.

"You don’t have to put pressure on yourself Astrid, I am here to protect you. Julian is also there to do the same as dad... and for grand dad." The excited look in Astrid’s eyes disappeared, recalling her granddad.

"I am going to place all my hope that he would get better," she mumbled against her breath.

"What is going on here?" Zach called out with a big proud smile on his face.

As Zach sat in the living room with Astrid and Miles, he felt a sense of relief wash over him.

He had been worried about how he would build the relationship between siblings. Seeing them now it seemed that Miles and Astrid were already closer than he thought.

He knew that Miles was still in shock from the revelation that the woman he had thought was his mother wasn’t his mum.

Zach had wanted to protect Miles from the truth, hoping to spare him the pain and confusion that came with it. He wanted to have one big family, but fate had other plans, and now they were all dealing with the aftermath.

The both turned to Zach’s, and Astrid’s expression turned somber.

"Well, we were just talking about Granddad," she said, and Zach nodded in understanding.

"I plan on visiting him soon."

Astrid nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "I will appreciate that, D... Dad," she said, her voice filled with warmth.

The room fell silent for a moment, everyone was taken aback by Astrid’s use of the word "Dad". It was a term she hadn’t used since she arrived, and they had thought it would take time for her to balance.

Astrid snickered at their reaction "Well, I guess I am way too fast, right?"

Zach shook his head, his eyes filled with love. "Of course not," he declined, "It came at the right time."

As he spoke, Zach reached out and pulled Astrid into a warm hug.

"Thank you so much for accepting me in your life Astrid,"

*********

Astrid was already exhausted from the stressful but beautiful day, alighted from Miles’ car and then Miles poked his head from the window side.

"Good night... I need to go pick Maren up," Astrid gave a slight nod as she waved bye.

Waking into her cold mansion she could feel the sense of guards that were currently protecting the house signifying Julian was home already and she felt relieved at this.

Her phone buzzed and just like she expected a message from Mr Jerkins, "Good news... He is responding well to treatment." she smiled as she typed on her phone finding her way to get room.

"Wow... thanks for this piece of information," she said just as she pushed her room door open there she saw Julian sitting on one side of the room, now having a beautiful plush chair and table, his laptop on it as he arranged some documents on it.

"You finally turned my apartment into yours?" Julian looked up from his laptop, his glasses pushed up on his nose.

Astrid smiled recalling the times she used glasses, her eyes were a bit better now after a series of treatments when she was in Valtania but she still used contact sometimes.

"Good evening to you, I heard you have a lovely time with your family." Astrid pulled down the small jacket she had on now revealing her off-shoulder gown.

"You get news faster than I think," her voice let out a whisper.

Astrid removed her band which she had used for her hair and her hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall of silk as she removed her earrings, the soft clink of the jewelry hitting the dressing table the only sound breaking the silence.

Her eyes locked onto Julian’s, a hint of mischief dancing in their depths.

"It makes me wonder if you purposely neglect news when you know it or decide to act slow," she sauntered towards him, her hips swaying seductively.

Julian’s eyes never left hers, his gaze burning deep into hers, "Did you miss me?" he asked, his voice raspy, as he reached out and pulled her close.

Astrid’s hands wrapped around his neck, her fingers tangling in his hair as she leaned in, her lips brushing against his ear.

"I spent a lovely time with my family, so I didn’t notice you were gone," she whispered, her breath sending shivers down his spine.

Julian’s hands roamed over her back, his fingers tracing the curve of her spine as he pulled her closer. "That’s not nice," he grumbled, his lips nuzzling her neck.

But he pushed his head back like he recalled something, "What did you do?" he asked, his eyes boring into hers.

Astrid’s laughter was a low, throaty sound as she leaned in, her lips meeting Julian’s in a soft, gentle kiss.

"Hey, am not always causing you trouble," she said, her voice muffled against his lips.

Julian’s eyes flashed with delight as he deepened the kiss, his tongue tangling with hers.

"Well I don’t care how much trouble you cause, I will take care of it," he whispered, his lips trailing down her neck.

Astrid’s eyes shimmered with mischief as she pulled back. "Really?" she asked, her eyes locked onto his.

Julian’s gaze never wavered, he wondered what she had done. "Yeah," he growled, not pushing further words, his lips meeting hers in a fierce, passionate kiss.

Astrid’s hands roamed over Julian’s chest, her fingers tracing the contours of his muscles.

Julian’s hands cupped her face, his fingers tangling in her hair as he deepened the kiss.

Their lips moved in perfect sync, their tongues tangling in a passionate dance.

As they broke apart for air, Astrid’s eyes twinkled with mischief. "Then you’re going to help me sponsor someone’s education," she announced.

"Anything that satisfies you, Love," he whispered, his lips meeting hers again this time daring her not to break this kiss.
