Chapter 259: FATHER AND DAUGHTER MOMENT

Chapter 259: FATHER AND DAUGHTER MOMENT

Astrid sat at the dining table, her father beside her, as they enjoyed a warm and intimate breakfast together.

Zach carefully placed a slice of bacon on Astrid’s plate, his eyes filled with love and adoration.

Just then, Mattie walked into the room, a little smirk on her face as she walked toward them.

"Now that your favorite daughter is here, am I going to be abandoned?" Mattie asked as the maid standing beside her chair helped her pull it out.

Miles, who had been quietly observing the scene, responded to her question with a small smile on his face. "No one is abandoning you, Mattie," he said calmly. "You were the one who refused to come downstairs for breakfast."

Mattie’s expression turned icy, but she said nothing, instead choosing to sit opposite Astrid. The maid served her food, and Mattie proceeded. "So, Astrid, how does it feel to be living the life of a rich princess?"

Astrid smiled sweetly, not forgetting to return the same energy thrown at her. "It’s been a nice journey, at least I waited for the right time to gain my title back from the one who stole it."

Mattie’s face turned red immediately, one could see how much she struggled to still keep herself together from barking at Astrid.

Mattie look down to her pmateaboit to eat when she noticed what had been served to her, "What the fuck!" she screeched and threw the plate to the ground, standing up to slap the maid.

"You bitch!" Mattie snarled, her voice echoing through the room. "Are you blind? Don’t you know I don’t eat this?"

The maid bowed, apologizing profusely, "I am so sorry Miss Mattie, the boss had ordered this to be cooked, we..." Mattie shut her up almost immediately.

"Get me some food which I eat, now!" Mattie demanded, her voice shrill.

The maid hesitated her gaze darting between Zach and Mattie’s fierce looks.

"I am sorry, Miss Mattie, but the food you requested isn’t cooked yet."

Mattie’s face turned purple with rage as she shot a glare at her dad, "Now that the princess is back, am I worthless? You won’t even tell them to cook the food I want?"

For the first time, Zach spoke up, his voice firm but calm. "If you don’t want to eat, Mattie, then perhaps you should leave the table. It was peaceful before your arrival."

Mattie’s eyes held pain, yes she was used to her dad’s cold behavior big not this cold he cared so much for her in the past. Was this because of the arrival of Astrid? She stood up, pushing Paige, the maid, out of the way.

"I hate you all!" Mattie yelled, her voice echoing through the room. "You’re all against me!"

With that, Mattie stormed out of the room, leaving the others in stunned silence. Astrid looked at her father, concern etched on her face. "Dad, I am sorry about that, I didn’t mean for her to get mad," she said softly.

Zach smiled, his eyes filled with love. "Don’t apologize, Astrid. You didn’t do anything wrong. Mattie’s behavior is not your responsibility."

Astrid nodded, having her serve of satisfaction, seeing how slowly she was diverting people’s attention from Mattie.

After breakfast, Miles excused himself to go talk to Mattie while Zach and Astrid strolled through the mansion, enjoying the warm sunlight streaming through the windows.

As they walked, Astrid felt alive excited with how nice and gentle Zach is.

Zach on the other began to open up about his past, even though he had gotten married to Tonia he never for once forgot his stories about his love life with Elizabeth, Astrid’s mother.

"Heard you are following your mum’s footsteps?" Astrid let pit a small smile as she bobbed her head, her eyes glancing around the construction of Zach’s building.

"Well, she had always told me she would make one of her children follow her footsteps," Zach said, a faraway look in his eyes. "She would always tell me about her dreams of building beautiful houses for us and our future children. She had a passion for design, and I loved seeing her eyes light up when she talked about her projects."

Astrid listened quietly, she couldn’t help but feel happy with the fact that that her mother had always loved her even before birth.

"What was she like to you?" Astrid words were low.

Zach’s face softened, and he smiled. "She was kind, intelligent, and beautiful. We met in college, and I was immediately drawn to her. We fell deeply in love, and I thought we would spend the rest of our lives together."

Astrid’s eyes filled with tears as she listened to her father’s stories. She could see the pain and regret etched on his face, and she knew that he still carried a deep love for her mother.

As they continued their walk, Zach grabbed Astrid’s hands, his eyes laced with regret.

"I regretted allowing my family to control me, Astrid. I should have fought to be with your mother. I shouldn’t have believed her when she told me about Landon. I should have forced her to talk to me."

Astrid’s heart went out to her father, and she smiled softly. "It’s not your fault, Dad. You did what you thought was best at the time."

Zach’s eyes filled with tears, and he pulled Astrid into a tight hug. "Why are you so nice and understanding like your mother?" He mumbled.

"Astrid.." he called his eyes shit as he couldn’t bear the pain in his heart, the years he had lost without the daughter of his first love.

"I hope can gain your forgiveness, Astrid. I want to make things right between us." Astrid let out a snicker, she was willing to give him a second chance, to give him the chance to act like a father to her, but she couldn’t explain why. But the moment she had set her eyes on him in the living room those feelings grew.

After their emotional moment, Zach and Astrid continued their tour of the mansion. As they walked, Zach pointed out various rooms and features, sharing stories about the history of the mansion.

As they approached back to the living room, Zach stopped in front of a picture frame.

"This was a structure I once got from your mother during our love life," he said, a nostalgic look in his eyes. "Even though I got married to Tonia, greedily I still wanted to have Elizabeth with me."

Astrid smiled, feeling a sense of connection to her mother. She reached out and touched the picture frame, feeling a sense of peace wash over her.

Just then, a servant approached Zach, whispering something in his ear. Zach’s expression turned serious, and he turned to Astrid. He took in a deep breath it was a lovely moment between him and his daughter.

"I will sort it out later," he announced but Astrid quickly turned to her dad.

"Nope, you should... go now... I am fine here for now, till you are done." Astrid told him.

"You sure?" Astrid nodded, still having a lovely smile on her face.

"It’s okay. I know you’re going through some troubles with your company. Go take the call."

Zach thanked her and hurried off, leaving Astrid alone in the living room.

She walked over to another large picture frame hanging on the wall, having a perfect family. Mattie, Miles, Zach, and Tonia.

Astrid stared at the picture, wondering what could have been if her mother had gotten married to Zach instead of Tonia.

She pictured an alternate reality, one where her mother, Zach, and she were a happy family.

As she stood there, lost in thought, a maid accidentally stepped on her foot, causing her to jump in surprise causing the maid to drop the glass she was holding, shattering it on the floor.

"Oh my goodness!" the maid screamed almost in tears, she had wanted to give Astrid some juice since Miles ordered it.

Astrid squatted same time with the maid to help the maid, only then did she notice that it was the same girl who had been with Mattie earlier that morning.

"Hey, you don’t Haw to be this jumping around," Astrid custioned the maid.

"Ma’am... I don’t mean to don’t get me fired, I used this to feed and want to use the remaking in proceeding with my education." the girl pleaded almost in tears.

Astrid smiled and helped the girl up, brushing off her uniform. "Don’t worry, I won’t get you fired," Astrid stated seeing how young the girl is.

"Really?" the maid’s eyes bulged out as Astrid checked her name tagged."

"Instead, I have a job for you, Paige."

Paige eyes widened in surprise as Astrid continued. "I want you to follow Mattie around the mansion and update me on her movements."
