Chapter 250: RILING HER UP

Chapter 250: RILING HER UP

Tonia sat beside Mattie, her eyes fixed on her peaceful face. She was still trying to wrap her head around the fact that Mattie wasn’t her biological daughter.

The revelation had left her reeling, and she couldn’t help but wonder how this had happened. How had she spent her entire life loving and caring for a child who wasn’t even hers?

Was this repercussion for what she had made her sister go through?

Just then, Mattie’s eyes fluttered open, and she smiled weakly at Tonia.

"Mum," she called almost in tears.

"You finally came for me," she whispered as she tried to sit up, but a sharp pain in her stomach made her groan.

Tonia quickly grabbed a glass of water rushed to her and helped her sit up.

Then proceeded to help Mattie take a sip.

As Mattie drank water, Tonia couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions. She was relieved that Mattie was awake, but she was also struggling to come to terms with the fact that Mattie wasn’t her biological child.

Mattie looked around the room, taking in her surroundings. "Where’s Dad?" she asked, her voice filled with concern. "And where’s Miles? Don’t they care that I am in the hospital?"

Tonia tried to calm Mattie down, "Well they are sorting out some issues," Tonia lied.

"Wow! Are those issues more important than me? The least they could do is wait till I regain consciousness." she grumbled.

"Mattie, relax.."

"No, they don’t care about me, not once! Miles doesn’t even accept me as his sister!" Tonia’s patience began to wear thin, she didn’t know when she shit her up.

"Mattie, stop being such a brat," Tonia snapped, her voice rising. "Your behavior has caused your father so much stress already. Can’t you just be grateful that you are alive and recovering? That you didn’t become a murderer overnight!"

Mattie’s eyes widened in shock, and she fell silent. "I have always warned you not to let your anger get the best of you!"

"Mu... mum.." Tonia stood up not bothering to hide her irritation. "I should go get you some food, and notify the doctor that you are awake."

She walked out of the room not waiting for Mattie to respond.

Mattie felt a pang of sadness and loneliness, as she watched her mum walk out.

Her mom had always been supportive, no matter what she did. Seeing her mom get mad at her was a shock, and it made her heart feel shattered. She had never seen her mom so angry at her before, and it scared her.

As she lay there, feeling sorry for herself, the door to the hospital room opened, and Astrid walked in, followed by Donald.

Mattie’s face lit up with a smile as she saw her grandfather, and she screamed with excitement, Donald took fast steps toward her and she threw her arms around him.

"Grandpa!" she exclaimed, hugging him tightly. "I have missed you so much!"

Donald smiled and hugged Mattie tightly, stroking her hair gently. "I have missed you too, sweetie," he said. "I am so glad you’re okay. I was so worried about you."

Astrid stood back, with a sly smirk she wasn’t expecting her to recover this fast. But one thing brought satisfaction to her face, seeing her here alone.

Astrid placed the basket of fruit her grandad had gotten for Mattie, on the table.

"Don’t you miss me also?"

Mattie pulled back from Donald’s hug and looked at Astrid, her eyes cold. "Why should I miss you?" she spat.

"You’re the one who caused all my problems. If you hadn’t told Stephan that I wanted to get an abortion, none of this would have happened."

Astrid smiled at Mattie, but before she could say anything, Donald butted in.

"Mattie, for once be nice to Astrid, she cared about you. That’s why she never wanted you to get the abortion."

Mattie’s face contorted in anger as she yelled at her grandfather. "Do you believe her word or whatever Astrid says?"

Donald’s expression was calm. "I believe Astrid’s words because she hardly has the heart to the scheme."

Mattie’s eyes widened as she met Astrid’s gaze, and a big smirk spread across Astrid’s face.

Donald continued, "Mattie, Astrid is the reason why I came here, despite her being busy in the office she found some time for me to come to check up on you."

"I don’t care about her granddad, I don’t like her, she is a sly bitch!" Mattie yelled.

"Mattie!" Donald shut her up, and she looked down pouting her lip.

Donald took in deep breaths, knowing Mattie still hadn’t found out about her not being part of the Adams he thought to advise her.

"You need to lay low for now. You have caused your dad a lot of stress because of this issue. I need to go greet the Rays now so we can find a better way to sort this out."

Mattie’s voice rose in protest. "Don’t you care about me, Grandfather? Why are you apologizing?"

Donald’s expression turned stern. "You’re the one who went around sleeping with him when you had someone else. You don’t have the right to complain now. Stephan abusing you should be thrown under the bus since you’ve shot him also."

"Granddad!" Mattie argued, but before she could continue, Astrid brought out her phone and played the video of her shooting Astrid.

"The whole family cares and is trying their best to prevent things from escalating. Aren’t you going to reconsider?" Astrid let out.

Mattie, not able to contain her anger, slapped Astrid’s phone out of her hands. "You are a monster! How did you get this video? It’s fake!"

Donald’s voice was firm. "If you’re not going to cooperate, I won’t put myself in this mess. It’s either you do what I say, or you are on your own to face the consequences."

Mattie was speechless, having no choice, she apologized, "I am sorry for losing control granddad."

Donald breathed a sigh of frustration as he patted her back, "Alright then, I should go see them now." He walked out, leaving Astrid and Mattie alone.

As soon as Donald stepped out, Astrid sat beside Mattie, having a teasing smile.

"Why are you still here?" Mattie fired at her.

Astrid replied, "Well, bonding with my sister."

Mattie’s eyes narrowed. "What do you mean? We are not sisters so know the words you put in."

Astrid played with the necklace around her neck. "Yeah... we are not even cousins," Astrid whispered and Mattie whipped her head toward Astrid.

"What?"

"I recently found out some truth, and I’m still trying to understand. It seems the fake has been living with Adam’s family from the beginning, and the original has been living the life of the fake." Mattie’s eyes widened and she gulped down nervously.

"Excuse me?" Astrid gasped, slapping her hands on her mouth. "Oops, sorry that slipped my mouth."

Mattie grabbed Astrid’s shirt, demanding, "What do you mean? Tell me!"

"Hey! Relax, it’s only a rumor." Astrid tried convincing her. But Mattie’s hands grabbed her arms tightly. Despite groaning in pain, Mattie insisted that Astrid explain.

Astrid laughed at this seeing the worry in her eyes, "Well, you can ask your mom to explain it better for you, not like she is already acting weird toward you."

Mattie’s hands trembled as she shook her head, recalling how her mum had snapped at her, she thought Steohan would hide the truth, the bastard had betrayed her she thought.

"Stephan betrayed me. How did my mom find out?"

Astrid laughed again. "It’s bitter to know the truth, right? The person who’s been bullying you isn’t even an Adam." Mattie pushed her away.

"Shut your mouth!"

"You’ve been stealing things from me, my man, my dad, and even my mother. Oh, It seems my mother is the only one you didn’t steal from me."

"What exactly are you saying bitch!? I didn’t steal anything from you, your stupid father died committing suicide."

Astrid leaned further as she continued. She touched her necklace again and whispered, "You sure you didn’t, or it all started from the necklace... oh, maybe from birth."

Mattie’s eyes landed on the necklace, seeing it as a new necklace with the initials, it was prettier than the one she had.

"This was supposed to be mine! Not yours!" Mattie yelled as she grabbed the necklace on Astrid’s neck.

Astrid’s eyes widened as she tried to pull Mattie’s hands off, but Mattie’s grip was tight.

As Mattie’s grip around Astrid’s neck tightened, Astrid’s face began to turn red from lack of oxygen.

"Let me go bitch!" Desperate to break free, Astrid pulled Mattie’s hair, causing Mattie to yell in pain. But instead of releasing her grip, Mattie’s fingers only tightened further around Astrid’s neck.

Just as it seemed like Mattie was about to choke the life out of Astrid, the door to the hospital room burst open.

Astrid’s eyes widened in surprise, and with a sudden surge of adrenaline, she slammed her hand onto Mattie’s head, causing both her and Mattie to cry out in pain.

The sudden shock caused Mattie to loosen her grip, and Astrid took advantage to bump her head into the rail of the bed and stumbled backward hitting the ground.

"Astrid!" Julian and Miles called as they rushed inside.
