Chapter 225: CAUGHT IN THE TRAP
Chapter 225: CAUGHT IN THE TRAP
Julian ran after Astrid, his heart pounding in his chest, "Astrid... hey stop I didn’t mean to pick up the call!" he yelled after her but she slammed the door against him.
"Hey Astrid.." he called out again pushing the door open, but she didn’t respond instead she was already removing the hoodie he had given to her nit minding he was still standing there.
He sighed as he noticed her angry gaze, he drew closer his fingers brushing against her skin, "I am sorry," he whispered, his lips inches from her ear.
Astrid scoffed, yanking his hands forward as she pulled down the jacket on her nightwear, she finally turned to him now her gaze filled with pain.
"What do I need to do to get Mattie off your mind?" she asked, her voice trembling, only now did Julian notice how sad she was.
"already given you everything I think I can, I even made you my first still I can’t shake off the feeling..." she trailed off, her voice cracking.
Julian felt so guilty now, that he took a step closer to her, despite how she kept drawing far from her.
"The question should be directed to you, what should I..." She rolled her eyes walking off to bed but Julian quickly ran in front of her to her.
He pulled out his phone, "See." he said tapping on Mattie’s number and clicking the block button, his eyes never leaving Astrid’s face. He then called Ryan, "What are you doing now?" Astrid asked, confused.
"Hello... make the last visit of Mattie Adams be the last ever, I don’t want to hear or see her near my company."
ordering him to ban Mattie from his company.
As he finished the call, he handed Astrid his phone. "You can block every single detail I have about her," he said, his voice laced with sadness. "I promised I would stay away from her."
Astrid slammed his phone back on him, annoyance now clear in her voice.
"You can’t stay away from her, Julian, you have been together since you were kids."
Julian’s face twisted in pain, "I will do it, Astrid. I will prove it to you."
"I don’t trust you," Astrid replied.
Julian understood her plight, he didn’t know she was the one calling and had just picked up, only for him to hear her voice.
He planned to hang up but her teary voice stopped him, he knew he would dare not explain this to Astrid else it would irk her more.
Instead, turned her back to himself now pulling her closer, and embraced her from behind his lips brushing against her neck.
"I will make you trust me again," he whispered, his breath fanning her neck, his eyes closed.
"You might not know how much you mean to me, and I promise I will make you see it." Astrid didn’t bother pushing him away and just succumbed to it.
They were both still in the moment when Julian’s phone buzzed, breaking the tense silence between them.
He glanced at the screen, his expression apologetic as they looked back at Astrid through the reflection of the mirror. "I’m sorry, Astrid. I have an urgent meeting I need to attend."
Astrid’s eyes narrowed, her annoyance clear. But she nodded curtly, her voice tight. "You can’t let your job suffer because of me. Go."
Julian hesitated for a moment, his eyes searching hers. But Astrid’s expression remained stoic, "I would be back on time." he announced, placing a kiss on her forehead and turning to leave.
As soon as Julian was out the door, Astrid’s phone rang. She answered, already irritated. "Hello?"
"Astrid, how are you doing?" a deep voice asked on the other end.
Astrid’s eyes widened in surprise, now checking the caller ID, it was none other than her father.
"I am doing okay," she replied warily, unsure what he wanted. "I am surprised you still care about me."
There was a pause on the other end, and for a moment, Astrid wondered if he’d hung up. But then he spoke again, his voice gruff. "Good. I am glad to hear that, I am still your dad anyway"
Astrid’s thought went back to Rowan’s words, guess she needed to find out as soon as possible.
"Well I am calling to be sure you are doing okay, I heard about the news." he let out and Astrid’s gaze narrowed.
"Wow... never thought you would care so much about me to ask about my welfare, I am pleased by that." Josh scoffed as his fist tightened.
He knew something was wrong, his plan wasn’t well executed. "Good... have a nice day." With that, he hung leaving Astrid confused.
"So?" Tonia asked to smoke out from the cigarette she had while the whole of Daniel’s family was on their knees.
Josh’s hands trembled and she shook his head, "Unfortunately, she is doing okay." He let out and that was it for her.
"What the fuck!" Tonia yelped with fury as she stood up, her chair scraping against the floor.
She strode towards Josh, her hand flying across his face in a resounding slap.
"Just one job," she boomed, "If you had ended her right from the time she came into this world, it wouldn’t be hard."
Nadine’s eyes widened in confusion, her gaze darting between her father and Tonia. She looked lost, unsure of what to do, she couldn’t help but keep blaming Astrid for the cause of their pain.
"I promise I will do my best to rectify this situation."
But a crack escaped her lips, "I don’t want your apologies," she sneered. "I want results. And if I don’t see results, I will pull out of our investment and make sure the Adams have nothing to do with you again."
Leila stepped forward, she was filled with exasperation at the moment, her daughter was just at the peak of success this would destroy them.
"I will take care of Astrid, myself, Mes Adam," she promised.
"Josh, don’t forget you signed a contract with us. Don’t forget that I can be cunning." Tonia let out instead ignoring Leila’s words.
With that, she stormed out of the room, her guards following closely behind. Josh crumpled to the ground, his daughter and wife rushing to his side.
"Josh, are you alright?" Leila asked, her voice trembling with worry.
Nadine’s eyes were wide with fear. "Dad, what’s going on?"
Josh’s face was pale, his eyes haunted. He struggled to his feet, his eyes locked on Nadine.
"Tonia’s right," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I signed a contract with them. And if we don’t meet their demands, they will ruin us."
Nadine’s eyes narrowed. "Let me see the contract," she demanded, and immediately Josh found his way to his room, his family going after them.
Josh pulled out the contract from his safe, his eyes scanned the contract, his mind racing with fear of their downfall, until something caught his attention and he gasped.
Nadine stood beside him, her eyes wide with concern. "Dad, what is it?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Josh’s face paled as he read the clause, "It’s a clause that states if we don’t maintain a positive relationship with Tonia Adam, they have the right to withdraw their investment and sue us for damages."
Nadine’s eyes widened. "That’s...that’s ridiculous. We can’t control how they feel about us, and this is a private thing."
Josh’s voice was laced with worry. "I know. And it gets worse. If we’re found to be in breach of this clause, we will have to pay them a substantial sum of money as compensation, not just this money buy every single property owned by the Daniels"
Josh’s hands flew to his chest in shock, shaking his head continuously, "No... this can’t be." he let out.
"Dad! Breathe.." Nadine called out but Josh was losing his breath.
"Dad! Please breathe."
"All my sweat is being taken by that bitch!" he yelled out again, "Dad! Dad!" Nadine called this time but he wasn’t responding.
"Mum! Call 911! Dad is having a heart attack!" she yelled, Leila was so confused her hand tapped on the phone screen but was getting scared, so she finally tapped and called it but this time Josh had already gone limp in Nadine’s hold.
Just then a figure moved away from their door pulling out his phone, he dialed a number that picked up almost immediately.
"The drugs are taking effect, what next... should we let him go to the emergency unit or.."
"Allow him there, I still need him foe more information, there is no way he would die peacefully." The figure let out a small smile.
"Alright boss.."
"How about Tonia?" he asked again, "She had just left, heard nothing had happened to young miss," a loud sigh of breath escaped the other caller.
"She is a strong girl, wouldn’t get hurt useless fool, eyes on her and make sure to take anyone who is planning to hurt her down."
