Accidental Marriage With Mr Billioniare -
Chapter 189: THREATENING HIM
Chapter 189: THREATENING HIM
Donald and Julian sat outside Astrid’s room, still waiting outside for her to call them back inside. Donald didn’t have the heart to leave his granddaughter.
Maren and Miles have already gone out to get food for Astrid. "Good day..." Rowan greeted them as he got to them.
The moment Julian’s eyes landed on him, he narrowed his gaze. "Why are you here?" he asked before he could control himself.
"I was called by Astrid, any probs with that?" he retorted Julian stood up but Donald stopped him from reacting.
"Thanks for honoring her visit, she is waiting for you inside," Donald announced and Rowan smiled walking right inside.
Donald shot Julian Aglare, "The marriage with my granddaughter, it will go on right?" he asked another question that had been bothering him.
Julian’s eyes widened... "what? But..."
"You didn’t ignore it when I asked the question that day, in front of Astrid you accepted the private wedding with Mattie," Donald stated and Julian swallowed.
"It will be the best for you and Mattie to get married, I won’t give Astrid to you." Julian quickly grabbed his hands.
"Grand Dad.."
Donald’s eyes narrowed. "Have you ever defended her against Mattie?"
Julian’s gaze dropped, his mind racing back to past encounters. He had always supported Mattie, only siding with Astrid when Mattie wasn’t around.
"See?" Donald said, his voice laced with accusation. "It means your heart wants Mattie, but you keep feeling pity for Astrid."
Julian’s face twisted in protest. "Pity? I don’t...no, I can..." But his words trailed off, unable to convince even himself.
Donald’s expression turned stern. "Julian, I would rather give her to Rowan than watch you two get married again. Don’t ever think of getting back together with her."
Julian’s eyes dropped, shame and regret washing over him. Despite knowing the child wasn’t his, he had still agreed to the marriage.
That night, his eyes had been fixed on Astrid as he accepted their union, he had accepted with the hope that Mattie was doing that to get him.
Meanwhile, Rowan walked into Astrid’s hospital room, a basket of fruit in hand.
He stopped short, taking in Astrid’s frail form, her drip standing beside her. He dropped the basket on the table, concern etched on his face.
"Astrid?" he called softly, noticing the chill in the air. She was shivering, clad only in her patient wear.
Rowan quickly pulled off his coat and wrapped it around her shoulders.
Astrid still didn’t budge, her gaze fixed on some point outside the window. Rowan’s eyes narrowed, noticing how her left hand wrapped around her right, tightening her grip.
"Astrid?" he called again, standing beside her. "Why are you in the hospital?"
Astrid ignored his question, her silence unsurprising to Rowan. He stood there, waiting for her to acknowledge him, but she remained lost in thought.
She had always acted the way around him, but after a few more seconds of silence, she finally broke it.
"We didn’t have that close friendship before I left, so why have you been hovering around me since I got back?
"Hovering?" Rowan repeated.
"The last time we saw one another, your friend locked me out of your mansion."
"That was yesterday," she let out and he smiled, "That is why this is a surprise to me, I didn’t know if there was any accident so I don’t think I have been hovering." she glanced at him this time and this made him shut his words.
"You aren’t answering my question, Rowan," she stated and he gaped at her, he could see the look of pure sadness with no emotions in her eyes.
But then he noticed the small bandage on her head, "why.." he was about to touch it when she slapped his hands off.
"You shouldn’t worry about that but my question,"
"Fine, maybe because I got interested in you the first time I came across you. Maybe because you are the first girl to resist me, or because you are a Julian girl," she smirked.
"Interested?" she repeated and Rowan furrowed his brow, "She handed the flash drive to him," making him stare at it in confusion.
"What is this?" he asked and she smiled her hands finally letting go of her other arm.
"What is your relationship with my mum?" his eyes widened in shock at this.
"Relationship? I do.."
"Don’t play with me Rowan, I know you visited my mum the day she died" She intercepted him again.
"You... how? Fuck!" he groaned with his eyes shut. "The doctor must have snitched! But I thought we were over this." he let out all at once making Astrid curious.
"Meaning?" his gaze bore right into hers, "Why can’t I lie to you? Why do I feel like telling the truth the moment I stare into that gaze."
"That it’s crazy that I don’t want to believe the doctor at first when he told me you visited my mum," she moved closer to him now, poking his chest.
"That the CCTV footage stopped right at when you walked inside and might have some feelings that you messed it up." he shifted back at her change of demeanor.
"That you might be the one who killed my mother!"
"What? Kill your mother... I wouldn’t, never.." he tilted his head to the side as she stopped midway.
"You don’t think I did that to mess up this hospital because it belongs to Logan, Do you!" Astrid gaze squinted. In shock.
"You... you.." he exhaled sharply and raised his hands in surrender.
"I might do dirty jobs but one thing I wouldn’t do is to kill someone especially because he is the mother of the first woman in my life I have ever gotten interested in."
"So, tell me the damn reason why that CCTV footage stopped right when you walked in," Astrid demanded.
Rowan hesitated, his eyes darting around the room. "Your mom made me promise not to tell and keep the truth to myself, so I don’t think I am..."
Astrid’s hand shot out, a small pocket knife glinting in the light. She pressed the blade against Rowan’s throat, her eyes flashing with desperation.
"As...Astrid...what are you doing?" Rowan choked out, his voice trembling with fear. "What truth? Don’t make me do what I would regret," she warned.
Astrid’s grip on the knife tightened threatening him, "Fine...but that shouldn’t have gotten to this."
Rowan swallowed hard, his eyes fixed on the blade. "That Mattie is her daughter! Okay, stop trying to kill me,"
He yelled and the knife slipped from Astrid’s fingers, clattering to the floor. She stood there, stunned and speechless, her eyes wide with shock.
