Chapter 159: HE IS SICK

Chapter 159: HE IS SICK

Julian woke up with a pounding headache, his mind foggy from the events of the previous day.

He reached for the pistol still by his side and hid it in his cabinet. He wasn’t the type to carry it openly, but yesterday’s events had left him shaken.

As he tried to recall what had happened, memories of Mattie’s attempted seduction flooded his mind.

He felt a wave of anger wash over him, but it was quickly replaced by a creeping sense of weakness.

He knew he needed to get himself together, but his body seemed to be betraying him.

Julian washed himself and changed into a fresh outfit, but as he walked out of his room, he realized he wasn’t carrying his phone.

He was about to head back to his room when he met with Mattie in his room looking sick.

"Julian," she called, looking up as he approached.

"I am so sorry for what happened last night. I thought maybe..." Her voice trailed off as Julian’s expression darkened.

He pulled her hand roughly and tightened his grip around her wrist.

"It hurts," she mumbled, wincing in pain.

Julian’s anger increased, but as he spoke, his weak body betrayed him. He sneezed, and Mattie’s expression changed from pain to concern.

"What’s wrong?" she asked, trying to pull her hand free.

Julian’s grip tightened. "What the fuck is your problem? I want you to leave me alone." He sneezed again, and Mattie’s eyes narrowed.

"You’re sick," she stated, trying to pull her hand free. "Let me go, Julian. I will get you some medicine."

But Julian refused to release his grip. "I don’t need your medicine," he growled, his eyes blazing with anger.

"I just need you to leave me alone." He growled, "I will be so fine when you let me be okay!"

"I won’t leave you to Astrid Julian, you are mine and only mine, I..." She fell on her knees making Julian’s grip around their hands loosen.

"I am sorry, Julian, please don’t leave me, it’s hard to move on.." Tears trickled down her face now.

"I don’t have the heart to do it, it might be easier for you but not me," she pleaded, Julian felt weak at this.

She had never done anything for him to break up, he is the one being greedy but his heart no longer yearns for her, all he cares about is his Astrid.

"I am sorry, okay... I can’t be with you anymore," he stated and walked out of her presence.

Julian trudged into the living room, his exhaustion evident in his slow movements.

Then he met with Larry’s concerned expression, but before they could exchange words, Mattie’s shrill voice pierced the air.

"Don’t think anyone else can have you but me!" she yelled, her eyes blazing with a possessive intensity.

Julian’s jaw clenched as he struggled to rein in his anger. He didn’t want to give Mattie the satisfaction of getting under his skin. Instead, he focused on Larry, who was holding out his phone.

"How did you get this?" Julian asked, his voice low and even as he collected his phone from him.

Larry’s expression turned serious. "Ma’am Astrid brought it. She asked about you and wanted to see you. But then, out of nowhere, she started crying and ran out of the mansion."

Julian’s confusion deepened. "Why did she cry?" he asked, his brow furrowed in concern.

Larry shrugged. "I don’t know, but you need to take care of yourself, Julian. You’re getting sick again."

Julian’s eyes flashed with defiance. "I’m strong. I can manage."

But Larry’s expression remained skeptical. "You are not strong, sir. You’re weak and getting weaker by the minute. Remember what happened last year? You don’t want that to happen again."

Julian’s jaw clenched as he remembered the ordeal he had endured. But he pushed the memories aside, his mind focused on one thing: reaching Astrid.

"Take me to Astrid," Julian told Larry, his voice firm despite his weakness.

But before Larry could respond, Mattie appeared at Julian’s side, her eyes gleaming with malice.

"You will never reach her," she spat. "I have made sure of it. And even if you do, she will never come back to you. I will make sure of that too."

Julian’s eyes narrowed, his anger simmering just below the surface as nervousness began to eat him up.

Despite his weakness, he tried to push himself towards Mattie, but his body betrayed him, leaving him swaying unsteadily.

Mattie’s laughter was like a knife to Julian’s heart. "You are too weak to even stand up to me, you don’t even fucking care about your health knowing what happened last year." she taunted. "I will gain back your heart, Julian. And I won’t stop until I do."

Julian’s voice rose to a shrill pitch "What the fuck have you done!"

But she just smirked, her eyes glinting with irritation. "Confirm with your lover, isn’t that where you are headed anyway?" she taunted, before turning on her heel and walking away.

Julian tried to grab Mattie’s arm, but she shook him off, leaving him seething with frustration.

He whipped out his phone and began dialing Astrid’s number, his fingers trembling with rage as he stormed out.

Larry followed him, "Boss you are not that strong..."

"Don’t come after me! Why the hell did you allow her to go alone? What if something happens to her!" He fired back as he placed his phone on his ear.

"I tried to do so, I promised but she didn’t listen, she was so mad. I think she got a message that had pissed her off." Julian glared at him and snatched the car key from him as he jumped into the driver’s seat.

"Sir, I should take you there, you are weak, you shouldn’t.." but before he could complete his statement he peeled out of the driveway, leaving Larry staring after him in concern.

As he drove off, Julian’s mind was racing with worst-case scenarios, so he decided to call Maren.

He connected his phone to the car’s Bluetooth and dialed her number. After several rings, a deep voice answered.

"Yo, what’s good? It’s pretty early to be calling my girl," Miles said, his tone laced with amusement.

"Where’s Maren?" he demanded.

Miles’s tone turned serious. "She’s sleeping, man. What’s going on? You sound worried."

Julian’s anxiety spiked. "I don’t know, okay? Just...never mind." He hung up the phone, his mind still racing with concerns.

Finally, he arrived at Astrid’s villa and drove inside, his heart pounding in his chest. What would he find when he got there? Why did she suddenly leave if she came to his mansion?

He didn’t want to think she saw Mattie on him, he was becoming scared of losing her.

Julian knocked on Astrid’s door, his anxiety growing with each passing moment.

When there was no response, he knocked again, his worry deepening.

Finally, the door creaked open, and Astrid stood before him, her face puffy and her eyes red from crying.

"Why are you here?" she asked, her voice cold and distant. "You should go back to your lover and leave me alone."

Astrid tried to shut the door, but Julian was quick to react, pushing the door open and stepping inside.

"Why the fuck don’t you pick your call, I was fucking scared." He yelled after her. "That is not a concern of yours, get the fuck out of here!" She yelled at him.

Astrid turned and ran up the stairs to her room, leaving Julian to follow.

As he reached the top of the stairs, he saw Astrid trying to shut her bedroom door. But Julian was too quick, grabbing her arm and pulling her back.

Astrid’s eyes blazed with tears as she begged Julian to release her. "Please, Julian, let me go! I don’t want to see you, I don’t want to talk to you!"

Julian’s grip on her arm tightened, his own eyes welling up with tears.

"Astrid, please listen to me! I’m so sorry for what happened. I was wrong to doubt you, to accuse you of lying to me."

Astrid’s face contorted in pain and anger. "You think a simple apology will fix everything? You think you can just waltz in here and expect me to forgive you?"

"I don’t expect you to forgive me, Astrid. I just want you to hear me out. I love you, Astrid. I love you more than anything in this world."

Astrid’s laughter was bitter and mocking. "You love me? Do you love me? You have a funny way of showing it, Julian. You always go back to her, you kiss her, you are so soft to her, and then you expect me to just forgive and forget?"

Julian’s face was etched with pain and regret. "Astrid, please...I was wrong, I know that now.

Astrid’s eyes flashed with anger. "You are too late, Julian. You’re too late. I don’t want your apologies, I don’t want your promises. I just want you to leave me alone."

But Julian refused to let go, his love for Astrid overriding his weakness. "I am sorry, Astrid," he whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "I love you, I can’t leave you."

Astrid turned about to leave and she freed his grasp from her but as she reached her bedroom door, Julian’s knees buckled, and he fell to the ground, his body weakened by his fever.

Astrid heard the sound and turned, in shock she rushed to his side, concern etched on her face. "Julian, what’s wrong?" she asked, trying to touch his face.

But Julian didn’t respond, his body limp and unresponsive. Astrid’s eyes widened in alarm as she realized Julian was burning badly.

And then, just as she was about to call for help, Julian’s body went limp, and he fell to the ground, unconscious.
