Chapter 102: HER HANGOUT
Chapter 102: HER HANGOUT
Astrid sat in her seat, her expression clouded with worry. The thought of Mattie’s predicament weighed heavily on her mind, and the fact that she needed to also keep it a secret only added to her distress.
As she lifted her coffee mug to her lips, a sudden snap of fingers broke the silence. Astrid’s gaze shifted to the intruder, and her eyes met Miles’ charming smile.
"Hi, Gorgeous," Miles said, his voice dripping with warmth.
Astrid’s response was guarded. "Good morning." Her tone betrayed her unease, and Miles’s brow furrowed.
"Is everything okay?" Miles asked, noticing Astrid’s reserved call response.
Astrid’s eyes widened as she shook her head, attempting to brush off her concerns. "How’s Mattie?" she inquired, diverting attention from her troubles.
Miles
smile faltered, and his expression turned somber. "To be honest, she’s not doing well."
"I can tell that since you never know how she is, you and your husband are going through some issues, am I wrong?" His gaze narrowed, scrutinizing Astrid.
Astrid eyes darted away, and he cleared his throat. "What makes you think that?" she let out trying to defend herself.
"Your expression says otherwise," he pressed, and Astrid sighed, her shoulders shrugging.
"We haven’t been on good terms this morning. He didn’t fulfill his promise, and it feels wrong." Her words trailed off, leaving Miles to connect the remaining dots himself.
Astrid’s eyes locked onto Miles’, filled with understanding. "You are not alone in this," Miles said softly.
His gaze lingered on hers like he was trying to know more.
"I will talk to Julian bout that though," He offered, breaking the silence.
They were both so lost in their conversation that they didn’t notice that the whole eyes were now on them.
"Well hope you get used to him also, Julian is never wrong, he hardly admits his mistake or apologizes." Astrid took in a deep breath now staring back at Miles.
"That is so wrong of him," she grumbled.
"You look less busy today," Astrid’s eyes widened as she stared at her computer and then shook her head.
"Nah, I am not just feeling lost at the same time finding an idea for my new project from Julian."
Miles was stunned at this, "A project from you?"
"Yeah..." she answered, "Need to show some designs to Julian, I wanted to go get it from my house but I think it’s a wrong idea," she mumbled the last part but Miles sure did hear her.
"Why?" she looked up at him and then shook her head, "Nothing..." she answered.
Miles saw she wasn’t ready to speak with him about it, so he didn’t force her to do anything.
"I should go talk to your boss before he meets us here," Miles stated about leaving when he recalled something.
"Erm... Gorgeous.." she looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Julian complains about something happening between the both of us, like kissing." Astrid squinted her gaze and gulped down nervously. She didn’t want to talk about it anymore.
"What is it about?" Miles pushed further and she blew out a rasp of air.
"That is a secret of mine, and no I am not cheating," He tilted his head to the side trying to weigh her words but she didn’t seem breakable.
"You sure are very good at keeping secrets, but if I were you, I wouldn’t allow it to repeat itself."
"A little scandal can bring a lot of damage to the company so..." Astrid was surprised at this.
She had always been worried about the video but she was expecting a scandal from her to ruin the Logans.
"Alright I will," Miles sighed, seeing she wasn’t going to tell him any damn thing that had transpired.
He left and she breathed out loudly, she should’ve told him she knew he would do something about it but she didn’t want to depend on anybody.
She wants to do things herself. She will be the one to take care of Stephan herself without anyone’s help.
Stephan has done a lot of wrong to her but she is willing to let go and she’s not sure if he does another one that she will let him go this time.
She proceeded with her work until Maren texted her, "Hey babe... wanna hang out with me tonight to keep me in check."
She read the message over and over, "But you can’t drink, you are pregnant,"
"I am getting rid of it, remember?" she sent back and Astrid felt so sad at this.
Astrid could tell that she so badly wanted to keep the baby. But she doesn’t want to be haunted by her past and has finally planned to let go.
Hurting a baby is a great crime to Astrid but she had no choice but to support Maren on this journey.
"Fine, by what time?"
"6 pm... I will come to pick you up so as not to get your husband worried," Astrid stared at her last phrase.
"Husband? Seeing numerous people now using that to her jlin sentence made her feel weird.
He hadn’t even tried to apologize for what he did. She checked the time to see it was 5 pm already.
She understood he and Miles must be having to plot their next big project together.
Not many people are aware of this, just their assistants and her. She has been warned by Julian never to tell anyone.
She stood from her seat, taking the document she had with her to Julian’s office.
She knocked and walked inside. There she met them so busy, and brainstorming "Oh... Sorry, I will come back next.."
"What is it?" Julian asked calmly, making her smile a bit.
"I just want to drop you the designs, I couldn’t go back home to get them because..." she recalled the issues she had with her dad.
"I am not on good terms with my dad," he nodded at this.
"Since you are done and it’s closing time you can leave," he announced this made Astrid. Curious.
"Aren’t you going home now?"
"Nope, I need to visit Mattie in the hospital she is recovering now and.." he stopped midway gaining more of her attention and curiosity.
"It’s fine I am going out with Maren also," she let out, and only this time did Miles raise his head.
"You are friends with her now?" he asked and I bobbed my head happily.
"Your friendship is surely growing day by day," She recalled how Maren had told her he didn’t like her no matter what she did.
"Where are you going?" Miles asked again, "She wants to drink and wants me to be there so I can caution her," Just Julian hit the desk which startled her.
"Hey! That got me scared!" she shrieked and then his eyes met Astrid’s.
"Hell no! You are going to no club!" he stated and Astrid scoffed.
"Oh please remember no one butting into other business, I am going and nothing is stopping me," she stated and walked out of his office before he could call her back.
She sat back by her laptop and then did her thing until she was finally done and sent the schedules for the next day already to Ryan.
She smiled now stretching herself excited until she noticed Manny staring at her.
"Why are you?"
"You do know Mattie is in the hospital with a lost memory because of you right?" Astrid was taken aback by her words.
"What do you mean? I didn’t know it was that bad." Astrid stated but didn’t trust her one bit.
She has watched her act innocent and change words making her look like the bad one and even paying the doctor so Julian would believe she broke her leg.
"Well news flash, it’s very bad and it isn’t looking good."
"Well, send my regards to her, that is if it’s real this time," Astrid let out as she closed her laptop and packed her belongings.
"Have a good night," she let out, waving farewells to Manny and walking out of the company.
Astrid chose to slip out of the office unnoticed, avoiding a potential conversation with Julian. She knew he would pick a fight, and she wasn’t in the mood.
Outside, Larry waited patiently for her. "Good evening, Larry. I won’t be heading home now, I am leaving with Maren," Astrid said.
Larry nodded, though his eyes held disappointment and unease, wondering if his bosses wouldn’t complain about Astrid’s sudden leaving.
Maren’s car pulled up just in time, and Astrid waved goodbye to Larry before getting in.
"Hey, girl! Thanks for honoring my invitation," Maren exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement as Astrid got in.
"Take us to the club," Maren instructed the driver, and Astrid’s discomfort grew. She wasn’t in the mood for a night out, but she wanted to prove Julian wrong.
At the club, Maren led Astrid to their reserved seats. "Hey, Walter! Bring me vodka," Maren called out to the waiter.
Astrid’s eyes widened in alarm. "You can’t drink that if you’re pregnant!" she exclaimed, her voice rising above the music.
Maren chuckled. "Come on, I am doing great now. Just one won’t hurt."
The waiter arrived with the order, and Maren snatched the glass from his hand. "Let’s enjoy the night!" she shouted, clinking glasses with Astrid, who had opted for water.
Astrid watched anxiously as Maren downed her first, second, and third drinks, still looking remarkably composed. She began to relax, thinking Maren might be fine after all.
But that reassurance was short-lived a few minutes later.
"Astrid..." Maren called out, her voice laced with distress.
"What’s wrong?" Astrid asked, already on high alert.
Maren’s face contorted in pain. "I think... I... Oh God, it hurts!"
Astrid’s concern turned to alarm. "No! Take me to the hospital, please. I feel like I’m losing the baby!" Maren cried out.
