Chapter 87: Upcoming Action
Light was quite worried, though he was also well aware that there was nothing to be gained by worrying about the slowing down of the red sun’s energy right now.
That was why, after two days, he had made up his mind to let it go.
Tomorrow was his birthday, of course, he didn’t want a celebration or anything, he wasn’t a big fan of birthdays anyway. Nevertheless, he thought that he could sleep comfortably by putting his head on his pillow despite everything.
The next day, when he opened his eyes again, he was aware of the loud noises coming from downstairs.
After getting out of bed, he took a good bath and after relieving himself well, he dressed well and went downstairs.
The noises downstairs had stopped, which put a happy thought in his head that Light might be released.
When he made it downstairs, he found Lawrence on the dining room table, smoothing out a birthday cake.
"Happy 21st birthday young master," Lawrence suddenly said. Light rolled his eyes at the smile on the old man’s face and said, "You know I don’t like birthdays, but you went to all this trouble."
"Yes sir, it helped that you slept for almost fifteen hours, I managed to cook quite a lot of food," Lawrence said.
With that, Light glanced at the clock on the wall and saw that it was four in the afternoon.
"Is there a report due to reach me?" Light asked, realising that he didn’t need to go out at this late hour unless it was something important.
"No sir, Charles and the others have everything under full control, the engineers who went to Newtown have finally returned, Mistress Elise and Mistress Pacifica have gone to check on the population for you and everything is pretty much under control. Only Jack is in a bit of trouble," Lawrence replied.
"I don’t know why you’re trying to get two women to approach me and basically calling them [mistress], but I don’t have the energy to question it, Lawrence," Light said and then added, "What’s Jack’s problem again?"
"Apparently, he’s stuck," Lawrence replied after a small chuckle.
Light looked at Lawrence in confusion when he heard that word and asked, "Stuck?"
"Yes sir, he said that the power he used was...what did he call it? Ah! Necromancer. That power is stuck, so he can learn to create something much more powerful than what he’s creating now, but he can’t do it, so he’s very troubled, he can’t sleep, he can’t eat, he can’t drink or he just won’t, he just sits there in the cold air," Lawrence replied.
Light shook his head and asked, "Can you get Jack for me really quick?" as he sat down at the dining room table.
Lawrance nodded and went to the walkie-talkie at the entrance of the house and asked for Jack to come to the house. Jack soon came into the house and looked at Light with a puzzled look on his face.
"What happened?" asked Light. He was telling Jack to sit down with his hand.
"It’s just that I’ve never seen you without a mask, brother," Jack replied and then sat down in one of the chairs around the dining table.
"Tell me your problem Jack, maybe we can find a solution." Light said.
"Well...I don’t know exactly how to describe it, it’s more like a feeling. Ever since you brought me the dead zombie bodies, I’ve been experimenting, but I can’t really create anything. Before, I was able to create zombies by sacrificing my energy, and I was rarely able to strengthen them, but now nothing happens."
At Jack’s words, Light started to think and couldn’t come to any conclusion.
"The worst part is, when I start to create something, I feel like I’m in front of two huge closed doors. It’s like two doors that can’t be opened. I’m really going out of my mind. It’s like my ability to create has stalled like I can’t think of anything."
When Jack had finished, Light paused for a few seconds and then looked at Jack and said, "Then the next time I go out, you come with me."
Light’s words surprised both Jack and Lawrence, who didn’t quite understand what kind of solution this was.
"I don’t understand, brother..." Jack said suddenly.
"There’s nothing to understand, the more I fight, the more I kill zombies, the more my abilities become like a sword pointed at a whetstone, each skill becoming sharper and sharper. Who knows if it’s not just me, no one is saying that your abilities can’t be like this."
The reason behind his saying these words was, of course, his levelling up. The more he levelled up, the stronger he became, so naturally his abilities became really honed.
Maybe this was also true for Jack. Not everyone, or rather, not every skill user had a system, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t improve.
It certainly couldn’t hurt to try.
"If your ability to create has slowed down and your imagination is stagnating, seeing other types of zombies or maybe watching your own zombies fight might help you, right?" Light questioned. There was indeed a great deal of logic in what he said.
After all, imagination was something that could be developed, especially by watching other things, reading other books, or watching a film you had never seen.
So it made sense that in this shitty world where only evil could be imagined, at least watching the real abominations, the zombies, could be very useful, especially for someone who could create them.
When Jack heard the words of Light, whom he began to see as his older brother, he nodded his head and hugged his wand and said, "I understand...I will do so."
With that, he stood up and prepared to leave the house, but at that moment he heard Light’s voice:
"Where are you going? It’s my birthday, come and join me, I don’t like celebrations but you need to eat a little."
"Thank you..." said Jack, smiling with happiness.
