Chapter 70: Deep Dreams (2)

The thing... or rather person... standing in front of Light was himself.

Or rather, it was someone very similar to him, different, dirtier and more frightening.

He was standing on a pillar, his whole body covered in blue blood, surrounded by perhaps hundreds of mutant zombie bodies. He was holding an ordinary Glock-type pistol and holding the wound in his abdomen with one hand.

He was old, a little older than he was now, it was not possible to tell how old he was, but he could see very clearly that he was old.

Around the pillar, on other mutant zombie bodies, there were perhaps dozens of living mutant zombies still trying to reach him.

Light didn’t even know which tier these mutant zombies were in, but he only knew that every single mutant zombie, dead or alive, was of enormous strength.

If Light was the one who killed these monsters, he must have been even more advanced than he thought.

It was the strangest dream he had ever seen...the strangest piece of the story...the strangest subconscious adaptation. And where was his sister? If she wasn’t here, she must be safe. Where were Lawrence, Pacifica and Elise?

While Light was still raging with all these thoughts, his ’future self’ standing on the pillar gave him a sudden glance.

Light felt his whole soul trembling, even though he was in a dream, he was shaking.

"You must live!" his future self suddenly shouted.

Before Light even realised what was happening, the mutant zombies were climbing up the pillar, the person or thing on the pillar fired one shot after another until the bullets in his pistol ran out, but he had reached the end of the road.

The mutant zombies managed to grab him. Light’s body began to disintegrate, but the mutant zombies managed to do it with great difficulty. It was as if Light’s body had managed to reach a strength that even they could not easily destroy.

Light didn’t know what to say.

"DON’T MAKE MY MISTAKES!!!" Light suddenly shouted as he was being torn to pieces.

However, the light in his old and tired eyes began to fade and his breath rose to the sky one last time:

"YOU MUST DESTROY THE CHURCH!!!"

As soon as Light heard these words, he opened his eyes and looked at the ceiling.

He was still lying on his sister’s lap. The worried look on Petunia’s face was visible.

Light seemed to be sweating profusely, his whole body was soaked, and Lawrence and Pacifica were standing by the couch watching him.

Dr Andrei had been called in again and had done a check-up just in case, the trio were relieved when he said that Light was just having a nightmare and that he was suffering from stress.

Petunia suddenly stroked her younger brother’s wet hair without once feeling disgusted and then asked, "Are you all right?" Petunia began to feel that she had been asking this question too much lately.

Light stood up after hearing this question from his sister and then saw that his sister’s clothes and the sofa were completely wet.

"I’m sorry, sis..." Light said and then closed and opened his eyes once, a tear rolled down his right eye and fell on the sofa.

When Light managed to come to himself, he looked at his sister in response to her question and then said, "It’s just a nightmare...".

With these words, he stood up and went to his room without saying anything to anyone and took a short shower, lay down on the bed and logged in to check his system profile.

He had reached exactly 76 levels, it seemed that he had gained 16 levels after only an hour of battle. He instantly added the 16 skill points he had gained to his Agility stat without even waiting for a second.

He had to speed up, that was his biggest weakness. With his current strength and endurance, he could even stand against mutant zombies, but his speed was a great weakness.

If the mutant zombie was not careful and attacked him as if it were a brawl, Light’s speed would not be enough.

The nightmare seemed to have made him even more paranoid. He had watched his own body...perhaps his future self...or his subconscious playing a trick on him as he watched his body being ripped to shreds.

And he didn’t wake up from the nightmare until it was over.

It was disgusting.

He couldn’t stand it though, he immediately reached for his inventory and then began to hold the Zombie Essence he had extracted from the mutant zombie’s brain.

He removed a container from his inventory, placed it on the table and destroyed the container holding the zombie essence.

He now had something quite interesting in his hands:

[Tier 5 Mutant White Ice Zombie Essence

Chance of winning the Incitement Spell: %???]

Light paused for a few seconds as he read the system window, and then instantly realised what the ability was.

Still, nothing would change unless he read the exact specifications of the ability. That’s why he shook his head and swallowed the zombie extract without a second thought.

Just a second later, he would encounter something that would make him happy for perhaps the first time in a day:

[Provocation Spell won!]

Light smiled and instantly clicked on the ability to look at its properties:

[Provocation(Active)

When provocation is used, one to ten targets of the user’s choice will be provoked by the user.

The defence of provoked targets will decrease by 20%.

The speed of provoked targets will decrease by 20%.

The power of provoked targets will decrease by 20%.

The user’s base stats will increase by 10% for two minutes].

Light exhaled deeply and his smile grew even wider as he read the skill’s specs. It was perhaps the fourth-best skill he had ever gained, it was truly priceless.

He had even thought that such an ability could perhaps exceed a hundred thousand system points in the system shop.

He was very lucky.
