Chapter 69: Deep Dreams (1)
When Light opened the message application, he messaged Elise for a short time and sent a formal request to this woman.
In short, Light asked Elise to send her subordinates on a mission. This mission would be extremely dangerous, a mission that could cost them their lives, but Light swore on his name that Light would drown them in supplies when this mission was successfully concluded.
He really had to know about it without jeopardising his own life.
He would even sacrifice tens of shelves full of food.
Elise, of course, accepted this mission without a second thought and Light started to wait.
In Light’s mind, thoughts about what this mutant zombie might be like were popping up. After all, he had seen with his naked eyes what a Tier 5 Mutant Zombie could do.
He had seen that this mutant zombie could freeze him in place with just his voice, and so he had to be prepared for everything.
He had many ideas in his mind. Maybe it was an animal mutation, maybe it was a human mutation. However, just as he was thinking about these things, he had already arrived at an answer.
He straightened up on the couch and covered his face with his hands, ignoring the worried looks his sister was giving him, the last thing he wanted to face was probably the thing that had almost killed them in Tamworth.
"A plant mutation...a parasite," Light muttered aloud. He hoped that Elise’s subordinates could get some proper information, he hoped that what he was thinking was wrong, and he hoped that it was all just a misunderstanding on Light’s part.
"Are you all right?" Petunia asked suddenly, holding Light’s hand and looking at her little brother with genuine concern.
When Light turned to his sister, he shook his head up and down and tried to indicate that there was nothing wrong. Petunia knew he was lying, but she had no idea what to say.
"If things are difficult for you, it’s okay to rest a little, my dear little brother, your shoulder is already troubled, rest for a while and stop worrying your mind," Petunia suddenly said.
This precious woman knew that she was not going to be of much help to her little brother, after all, Petunia was a woman who did not know much except sewing, managing complex things and designing.
Still, Petunia’s talents were more than she realised.
After all, as long as the Scavengers continued to exist, someone had to be present in the field as a family member of the leader, and in Light’s absence, the person who would be present at the head of everyone was none other than Petunia, his older sister.
"I’m fine, sis, I was just thinking about things, things that I wish weren’t real," Light said, and Petunia, hearing this, asked, "Is it something you dreamt about?"
When Light heard these words, he shook his head again and confirmed his sister’s question.
Light had encountered many things in his previous life, that is before he died, he had heard many stories, of course, all of these were strangely heard from television broadcasts that continued even months after the apocalypse.
There were television broadcasts about many types of mutation, many monsters and so on, and many of these broadcasts were made by hunters.
Mutations of the plant type were seen as the most dangerous in the long run. Light didn’t have a great deal of information, after all, the television broadcasts didn’t have a great deal of information.
After all, no human being was stupid enough to go near mutated zombies, and that was the problem. Only different people, like Light, chose to go back and forth on the subject. It was really stupid, but as the old saying goes, "The head of the snake should be crushed while it’s small".
If these things were true, Elise and the Roan group under her command would be in danger. Light probably couldn’t lose his biggest group of friends at the moment, he needed people who would stand by him in future conflicts.
Groups with too many people...
He had come across these groups before. More precisely, he had managed to hear about them when it snowed and the passage between apartments became incredibly easy.
He had managed to hear stories while hiding in his room, while there were still people like him in the apartment block where he lived.
That’s why he hoped that nothing as bloody as the stories he heard would happen.
Light wanted to prevent all this, and if he succeeded, he would have a group of hundreds and even thousands of people at his disposal.
"Really dangerous things, sister." Light smiled and told his sister not to worry too much.
With that, he lay on her lap and closed his eyes, he really needed sleep, he had already fought a battle without proper rest, and the weight on his body was too much.
It wasn’t long before his mind cleared and he fell asleep.
When he opened his eyes again he was confronted with a strange sight, he didn’t know exactly where he was, all he could see was a collapsed skyscraper, burning buildings and mutant zombies running away from something screaming.
He couldn’t understand what was going on, yet his heart was pounding, and a strange feeling of fear... or rather pessimism seemed to have begun to haunt him.
He started to move in the opposite direction to the one the zombies were running away from, that is, towards what these monsters were running away from, it would not be wrong to say that he had enough control to realise that he was in a dream.
The steps he took were merging with the snow on the ground and with each step he took, the feeling of pessimism in his mind was getting bigger.
The red sun continued to burn in the centre of the sky, and it was possible to see the sun through the gap between the falling snow and clouds.
Light had come to the place where all the zombies had fled, and he could do nothing but freeze in amazement at what he saw.
