Chapter 63: Connection

Four times a day, the group in the station depot used the station-frequency hand-held radio to try to call one of the groups in the neighbourhood that could possibly help them.

This was not very positive. After all, this small hand-held radio could be heard either by another hand-held radio or by another radio of the same type.

That’s why it would be very difficult for an outsider to pick up this frequency and hear it if they used a radio.

After all, anybody with a handheld radio could hear anything when they were in a certain area, with the frequencies travelling between the two radios, if the handheld radio was switched on.

Nevertheless, the fact that they needed help and the possibility of a greater danger of death approaching them every day made them want to try even harder.

This, of course, brought the group’s not-so-favourable plan into play.

It was an incredibly difficult thing to realise, but like almost everything else in life, it was not impossible.

What the group didn’t know, however, was that there was a group of people in the neighbourhood who were occasionally, if not constantly, eavesdropping.

Light had given Leonard and the rest of the group, that is, all the soldiers in the group, a walkie-talkie in case of any danger and maybe zombie reports.

It was incredibly difficult for zombies to get into the vicinity of the house at the moment, even impossible, but this was only for ten, twenty or maybe thirty zombies that could come in succession.

That was the reason why the radios were distributed among the group, the feeling of security of being prepared for anything, just in case, was ingrained in each of them.

Or rather, it could hardly be called a sense of security, since the radios were only connected to valid labour if someone else could connect to their frequency.

So Light had only donated one possibility to the group under the name of security.

"What are we going to do? We can’t stay here any longer, those strange... mutant zombies are finding our location faster and faster, we have to leave." one of the group members had said.

Everyone had thought about the possibility of such a day coming, they just didn’t expect it to happen so fast. Contrary to what Light had expected and remembered, the snowfall had accelerated, more snow was falling every day and the weather was getting colder.

So it was really impossible for this group staying at the station to leave on their own and find another safe place.

They needed help.

That’s why their eyes were suddenly locked on the electrical engineer they considered the leader of the group.

"We have to stay here for a while and radio for help, if there is anyone around they can hear us, we will either live or die. Still, it would be better to try and die than not to try and die." said the leader of the group.

These words seemed quite logical and unfortunately frightening to everyone. After all, every one of them was aware of the dangers outside, there was a television on the station, every one of them had seen some of the massacres, the government was shouting at people not to trust others before it collapsed, and everyone in this group had seen it.

But they couldn’t do anything, they had to call other frequencies and try to connect.

That’s why almost every one of them was going to be doing it every hour of every day.

The fact that they had not only radios but also station radios meant that they had a larger frequency capacity.

That meant they could be saved.

-----

Charles was doing his usual checking, patrolling around and checking around the first electric fence just in case.

When it was finally time to return to the group he went into his tent and really wanted to get some rest as it was the end of the watch.

The tents that Light had given them were relatively huge so everything was in good condition, spacious and warm, which was why Charles had taken off his clothes and, after cleaning himself up, suddenly lay down on a blanket on the floor.

Just as his eyes were about to drift off, a voice came from his bag next to him.

"ZZSTT!!! CAN ANYONE HEAR ME?!"

When Charles heard this voice, he first thought that he heard it out of nowhere and unzipped the tent and looked outside.

Aurora and the others were working in the area where the houses were, only Lillia was standing nearby, patrolling nearby, just in case.

Charles went back into the tent with great surprise, zipped it up and lay back down.

"ZZSSTT!!! PLEASE WE DEMAND URGENT HELP!!!"

When this voice came out again, Charles suddenly turned to his rucksack and then opened it and took out the walkie-talkie. When he realised that his radio was working, he instantly realised that someone was calling for help.

Suddenly he got dressed and quickly left the tent and started running towards the main house, the house where Light and the others were staying.

Arriving at the house in a short time, Charles quickly began to knock on the door as if he were kicking it.

Suddenly the door opened and Lawrence asked in surprise, "Yes, soldier?"

Charles took a deep breath and said, "I need to speak to Sir Light! It’s urgent!"

When Lawrence saw the sweat pouring down the soldier’s body, he realised that Charles had rushed over here without even bothering to put on a warm shirt, so he shook his head and walked into the living room.

In a short time, Light came anxiously to the door of the house and invited Charles inside.

Charles was shivering. At Light’s command, Lawrence brought him a cup of hot chocolate and some heat packets, and then it was time for Charles to speak.

What he had to say would make Light both hopeful and frightened.
