Chapter 52: Life And Death Fight (2)

With each step, the group approached the door of the wall, it was clear that each of them was sprinting to escape from the dozens of blood-curdling sounds coming from behind them and the hundreds of zombies chasing them and not to die.

Their bodies, sweating profusely through all the clothes they were wearing, ached as if they could no longer move. Running such a small distance would not have harmed them, but the fear in their bodies made them ache all over.

"ENDURE IT, WE ARE ALMOST THERE!" Light suddenly shouted, they had almost 40 metres of running distance left.

After almost 15 seconds, the door of the castle wall was reached and they entered inside, the door was closed and the door was sealed, just like inside the castle building.

All was not over though, there were too many mutant zombies outside. Light didn’t know which zombie was smart enough to climb up, which made everything even more terrifying.

"MASTER ARAH WE NEED TO GET TO THE TOP OF THE WALL!"

With Charles’ sudden shout, the group, tightly armed with their weapons, began to climb up the spiral staircase and from the tall walls of the castle, they saw the image of the red sun in the sky hitting the snow.

The view may have been perfect, but the voices and screams behind the image were heart-stopping.

"FIRE FREE! KILL THEM ALL!!!" Light suddenly shouted, and with that, each group member gathered at the base of the wall and began firing at the group that was still gathering.

The sound of gunfire from the borders of the castle was travelling towards the horizon and being swallowed up by the snow, while a few zombies that were trapped under the snow and started to move were trying to attack the walls of the castle from the outside, the group was lucky that there were no other mutants outside.

Just then, Lillia leaned over and shouted "ATTENTION!". No one could understand what was happening or why Lillia was shouting, but at that very moment, a zombie had somehow managed to fly up to the top layer of the castle wall. It was as if something had thrown the zombie.

The zombie landed on the wall and suddenly started running.

The zombie, which continued to run towards Andrew, was suddenly stuck to the floor of the wall when a group member hit his head with the back of the gun and his head was suddenly crushed.

"Thank you, sir," said Andrew, panting, fear coursing through his body.

Looking down from the wall, Light suddenly saw the zombie that had managed to throw the zombie to the top of the wall and his eyes widened.

The strange-looking zombie with tentacles was holding some of the zombies next to him and preparing to throw them.

"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!" Light suddenly shouted and pulled out a grenade from his Sub-Space. Unlocking the grenade, Light threw the grenade towards the zombie. After only a few seconds, the sound that echoed in the ears scattered in the area:

"BOOOOOM!"

The ears ringing with the sound of the explosion seemed to awaken the group rather than stun them, each of them smiling as if relieved and realising that they were a tiny bit closer to victory.

When the dust of snow from the explosion had dissipated, the rift in the ground was perfectly visible, revealing a dozen zombie bodies and a dozen tentacles scattered about.

Light took a deep breath and then turned to the group and said, "Don’t stop, we’ve killed one, there are more than a dozen mutants among them!" Hearing this, the group members didn’t stop for a second and started firing again.

When the group ran out of ammunition, Light would pull out a huge ammunition box in the centre of the group and continue shooting.

He was not like his group members, when he ran out of ammunition, instead of carrying ammunition with him, he took out a magazine from his Sub-Space and continued firing.

However, the bombs in the armoury he had taken out were already being used one by one. The sounds of explosion after explosion, the snow dust rising upwards, and so on, restricted their vision, but left permanent damage to both the area and the zombies.

"BOOOM!"

"BOOOOOOM!"

"BOOM!"

Almost 10 grenades had been exploded one after the other, but it was still not enough. Neither Light nor the other members of the group knew how many zombies they had killed, they only knew that there were dozens of zombie bodies even where the grenades had not exploded.

Each of them was very sure of this: There didn’t seem to be an end to it.

"CRACK!"

Petunia felt incredibly dizzy when she dropped the plate carrying food in the living room of the house.

The feeling in her heart had grown unbelievably as if her instincts had kicked in in the face of danger. She felt as if whatever was going to happen had already happened.

"My lady, are you all right?" As Lawrence bent down and picked Petunia up, he realised that the middle-aged woman had tears in her eyes. Lawrance couldn’t quite make out what was going on, but he knew something was wrong.

"Light..." Petunia said in a low voice as if something terrible was about to happen to her little brother.

"BOOM!"

"KEEP FIRING!"

"WATCH OUT TO THE RIGHT!!!"

The group had been fighting the incoming zombie horde for almost two hours.

Mutants trying to climb up the walls by literally stepping on each other, zombies trying to smash the walls, and even zombies with huge muscles that had already destroyed some of the surrounding buildings were constantly coming towards the castle walls.

Light was sure that he had already managed to kill more than 300 zombies.

"IT’S LIKE THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF BIRMINGHAM IS HERE!!! THIS IS A HOLIDAY ZONE DAMN IT!!!" Light suddenly shouted, with no thought of retreating or running away.

Yet he could feel something approaching. It was as if something was going to attack very soon, the zombies’ aggression had dropped a little and some of the group members had had a chance to rest. Still, Light was acutely aware:

Whatever was coming could drag them all to their deaths.
