Chapter 43: Elise Roan

Light had been travelling over the snow-covered land and trying to find his way for quite some time, it had been almost ten minutes since he had entered the borders of Birmingham.

Unlike other cities and regions, the civilisation here did not seem to have collapsed, on the contrary, it seemed to be growing.

He could see dozens of people looking at him with puzzled eyes. He could watch the areas where zombie bodies were burned. Although the disgusting smell of rotten meat repelled people, the snow here was incredibly shallow unlike in other regions.

After a short time, Light noticed an open market, approached the market and got off the snowmobile. A few people were approaching him, but it was clear from their faces that they had no bad thoughts; these looks were more like curiosity.

Light was not interested in fighting, but he was ready to reach for the pistol on his waist just in case. He stood among dozens of signs written in Chinese and just waited.

He left his snowmobile in the middle of nowhere and as if addressing the people approaching him, he said, "If you touch my snowmobile, you will never have a hand you can touch again." His muffled voice coming out of the mask made it sound as if it was an order.

At that very moment, the people around him stopped and only Light was left in the middle.

Approaching the market, Light realised that the door did not open, at that very moment the iron window next to the door opened and a woman said, "What do you want?"

"Information," Light said in response to this question.

When the woman heard this question, she realised that the person standing before her was just like her, like some kind of merchant.

"Not everything has a cost, but I do. What do you want then?"

When the woman said these words, Light realised that this woman was a very trustworthy person, he did not even need to use the inspection skill, but when he used the skill, he could see that this thought was correct.

"I’m looking for a place to stay that can be considered safe, I have resources I can trade with." Light said suddenly and reached out his hand to the snowmobile and threw it into his sub-space.

The people who had managed to see this tried to understand what was happening, but no one could say anything out of fear.

"Ah-you can go to the place on the next street. It’s quite expensive and they only accept food, but it’s safe, a few armed men are guarding it, so you shouldn’t have much trouble there." The woman still looked like she couldn’t believe her eyes, but she was still trying to compose herself.

Light nodded in agreement with her words and then set off through the people. After almost five minutes, he arrived at the place the woman in the supermarket had told him about and saw the armed men in front of the door.

As soon as he approached the place, the guns were pointed towards him and then the question was asked:

"What do you want?"

When one of the armed men asked this question, Light shook his head and said "Shelter".

The guns were put in their places at that moment and the duo showed Light inside. Entering the place with steady and calm steps, Light saw the broken, broken and dangerous appearance of the place.

The battle to get this place back must have been quite serious.

While he was busy thinking about these words, Light heard that word right in front of him:

"Welcome, how can I help you?"

Turning in the direction of the voice, Light said, "I want to buy a room, for two days." With just a few glances, you could tell that this was one of the places in the city where civilisation was high.

The surroundings might have been run down, and many things might have been broken, but Light realised that this was only an illusion.

The stairway to the stairs was spotlessly clean, there seemed to be nothing wrong, so even though this was the entrance to the ’hotel’, the main event was on the upper floors of the hotel.

"You can stay here for two days with a piece of frozen food, sir."

It was a beautiful woman working at the reception desk who spoke to Light, even if it didn’t attract his attention, he still had to respect her, she was still able to get a normal job to live in such a shitty world.

"Understood." Light said suddenly and pulled out not one but two pieces of frozen food from his Sub-Space and threw them towards the woman.

While the woman and the two guards at the door who were watching what was happening were trying to understand what was happening, Light spoke:

"Find me someone with knowledge, I will give you more food than you can imagine."

After these words, the woman pressed a button on the desk, and after only a few seconds, a woman even more beautiful than the one at the reception desk came down the stairs and started to follow Light.

"Is this woman the savant?" Light asked, and just then the woman who had come downstairs began to speak:

"My name is Elise. They call me by the nickname [poison] around here. May I know your name?"

When the woman who introduced herself as Elise finished, Light took out a hot coffee in a metal can from his Sub-Space and threw it to the woman.

"My name is Arah, I am the leader of the scavenger group, a merchant."

Light’s words seemed to have caught the attention of everyone in the place. The fact that he revealed that he was a merchant meant that he had something, he was a person not to be missed.

"Please follow me, I will take you to a quieter place, Mr Arah," Elise said these words and then started walking towards the stairs.

Light, of course, was following the woman, the fact that he was not surprised by the woman’s power surprised Light himself, who knows, maybe Light was not the only one with the skill.

After a short while, the silence between the two, who had managed to reach the ’quiet’ place, was broken by Elise’s speech.

"Tell us, Mr Arah, exactly what kind of information do you want from us? If you list the things we can provide you with, we can give you what you want."

With these words, Light sat on a seat and rested his body, which had been on the road for a long time, for a few seconds. Now he could start the real conversation.
