Chapter 98: Chapter 98: ITS GOOD SEEING YOU AGAIN!
Calista yawned as she stretched her arms while opening her eyes groggily.
She had slept so soundly after going to bed last night. Maybe because of standing on her feet for too long, she was simply tired. It ended up that way.
Hearing the rooster crowing for the third time. Even if she didn’t want to wake up, Calista no longer had a choice.
Fortunately, the restaurant was going to be open in the afternoon. As for the dirty plates, Susan and Naomi would deal with them. She had given Susan the keys, so she was hoping for no one to disturb her this morning.
After chasing away the drowsiness, Calista climbed down the bed, fished her hand under the pillow and fished out several copper coins which she happily took to the drawer where the other money was.
Calista started her morning chores, and after three hours, she was done. Not just with the cleaning, but also with breakfast.
She washed the dirty dishes and then started picking out ingredients she was planning to cook that day. Although she was pessimistic about getting customers this early, she still needed to open the restaurant.
Maybe she would get lucky and have a lot of passersby traveling from other places to Silverbroke town and beyond stopping by.
To avoid wasting food, Calista planned on cooking one type of dish, at least for now when she hasn’t amassed loyal customers.
Her restaurant was too far and surrounded by villagers, which was tricky. It was in a place where business people wouldn’t dare to open a restaurant or even a food stall.
However, for Calista who just felt a bit bored and thought of trying something new, she didn’t care about profits as money would still flow into her pockets even without working.
For today’s menu, she decided to cook dumplings, red speckled beans also known as sugar beans and beef. Dumplings can be eaten with stew or soup, so she was planning on making beans and beef stew. She loves her meat, and although she could cook beans only, the temptation of meat still overtook her.
As for the portion, including herself, and her two staff members, she decided to prepare ten servings.
Each serving would have three dumplings since they are fulfilling, plus the stew. So, she scooped enough flour, sugar, salt and a raising agent, which she then mixed through before closing the barrel.
She would have Susan mix it with warm water later while they prepare the relish. In the past weeks, Calista had taught Susan a lot, so she was quite confident in her cooking this time.
She was going to watch, monitor, and rest. She needed a lot of rest.
So, by the time Susan and Naomi arrived at Calista’s house, Calista had everything prepared, including a rocking wooden chair and a book to read later.
As the two carried the most luggage to the restaurant, Calista was admiring the beautiful scenery when she suddenly spotted the kids who were playing around, and their clothes were so dirty it made her frown.
’Wait, a moment. When was the last time I did my laundry?’ now thinking about it, it’s been ages since she washed her clothes and the dirty laundry was piling.
The thought of washing the clothes and cold water made her body tremble involuntarily.
She couldn’t help but look at Naomi, the little girl who didn’t have much time to do now and said suddenly, "Naomi, tomorrow morning. Please help me with my laundry. You will be paid normally with some extra benefits!" enticing the little girl into doing the work for her.
Naomi’s eyes shone, probably because of the extra benefits, and hurriedly agreed to this sudden job.
Calista sighed, relieved upon hearing that. She would have let Susan do the laundry for her, but only if they didn’t have important things to do. Should she stop learning just because of dirty laundry? She wouldn’t allow that.
And Susan didn’t ask much about the issue as well.
When the three arrived, Calista looked at the familiar carriage approaching the restaurant and wondered if she was hallucinating.
Nonetheless, she still went to the restaurant where the fire was started and the cauldrons had water added to them.
Calista didn’t bother to sit inside the restaurant but found a nice shade to sit under in her rocking chair as she waited for the carriage to either pass or stop.
Moments later, the carriage stopped instead of passing, making her lips twitch in excitement.
’It’s good to see that you are back. Hehe, I was worried for nothing!’ she couldn’t help but muse as her eyes twinkled.
Calista watched relaxedly as the familiar coachman alighted from the carriage before making his way to where she was sitting.
"Good day, madam Solace!" he respectfully greeted her.
Calista nodded in acknowledgement. "Good day to you, too. And it’s good to see you again. Is there anything that I can help you with?" before going straight to the point.
The coachman didn’t dilly dally either as he responded swiftly to the reason why he had to travel nearly five hours on the road to come here.
"My mistresses really loved your food and are hoping to have it again. Is it possible to get some reserved daily? I will come and pick them up every day!"
When Calista heard that, she suddenly sat straight. This was a long-term customer and a serious one on top of that. Did anyone listen to what he just said?
He didn’t even ask for the price?
Just how rich was he?
Anyway, this was just good news and for people who loved supporting her, Calista was willing to offer the best service.
So, maintaining that attitude, she started providing more details to the man about the prices and the menu.
"I won’t be having a menu at the moment. However, you can order what I cook. And it will all be good. Are you sure that’s what you want?"
"Anything is fine, as long as it’s from your restaurant!"
Agreeing, what more could Calista say?
She could only tell the man. "We just started preparing the food, and it might take a while. Next time, I will have it prepared early. This way, you don’t have to travel late!"
After all, thinking that no one would come to her restaurant, she went to the restaurant afternoon and by the time the food was cooked, it would be getting late.
"It’s fine. I can wait!"
"That’s good then."
