Chapter 97: Chapter 97: ASTONISHED

Many things have surprised them and made them joyful, regretful, and filled with complicated emotions.

And lately, it seemed like one person brought all these emotions up; Calista.

In Cropville village, the night was blissful. Even more than when they celebrated the start of the new year.

Who would have known or foreseen that one day they would be so fortunate to enjoy such great foods?

For people like them, who found it unbearable to eat meat even on special occasions, they would rather sell that chicken, pig or eggs for some money to have grains or buy coarse clothing to make clothes. To have such a feast, this day simply felt very unreal.

"I have never seen so much oil in a plate before!" looking at the sparkling samp and rice to which Calista had added some oil when cooking, another villager exclaimed, envy written all over her face.

"Look at this beef wasted. Why make it like this in the end?"

"But it’s tasty. I like it!"

"Look at the pork. For pork, I wouldn’t waste a single drop of oil. Doesn’t it have its own oil already?"

"Just eat silently. Why are you nitpicking? Should she be as stingy as you?"

"But ....."

"Forget it, but what is this crashed corn thing? I didn’t even know that we can eat corn like this!"

"This is one conventional method of eating it. If we follow this method, we can have a variety of dishes in the future."

"I will study it carefully!"

"Look at these sweet potatoes! It tastes better than when eaten the normal way!"

"Now I see why she is rich always. Her mind is simply too amazing."

"No one is as generous as her. She had done so much for us in the village and to top it up, she gave us a free meal. I guess we can consider that banquet she owed us done!"

"Um. No one can reach this level!"

"The food is delicioussssssss. I can’t have enough."

"Even if you can’t have enough. Can you afford it? it should be expensive!"

"That’s true. I guess I can only savor the taste since I won’t be able to eat it again."

Meanwhile, in Silverbroke town, Lady Roberts was smiling from ear to ear as she watched her daughter-in-law wolfing down the portion of the food she didn’t touch.

This daughter-in-law was very picky, just like the one she was with earlier when she passed by Cropville village. These daughters-in-law got pregnant around the same time, and it’s been pretty difficult to find food which suited their taste perfectly.

But who would have known that a simple restaurant in the middle of nowhere would provide such delicacy?

"Mother, this is too good! I feel like I can eat a barrel!" she exaggeratedly praised as she swallowed the last spoonful.

Lady Roberts nodded her head in agreement. She also wanted to eat the whole box but when she thought of how she still had another picky person at home and her other daughter-in-law protected her meal box like a hen protecting its chicks, she was left with no choice but to sacrifice herself.

"It’s delicious. Thank goodness the restaurant is near!" Lady Roberts shamefully said, forgetting the fact that one needed to travel ten hours to and from just to reach it.

When the daughters-in-law heard that, they all looked excitedly at Lady Roberts before the one who had just spoken showed how thick her skin was. "Mother, can we eat it every day? Didn’t the owner say that she would be running the restaurant daily? How much is a meal?"

Suddenly, Lady Roberts was bombarded with questions and hearing her daughter-in-law’s questions, she knew that she was in trouble.

However, knowing the fact that there was something these two could eat without causing a fuss, her mind shifted quickly.

Who cares about the distance?

These two were carrying her first-ever grandchildren, so she needed to take good care of them.

It took her only son so much time to find a partner. He wasn’t as outstanding as she would have liked. However, he was honest and hard-working.

Although he failed the national exam to become a government official, he continued to work hard and was now a respected teacher in Liresa City.

Liresa city was too crowded for the family, and Lady Roberts, who preferred solace over everything, decided to move with the family to Silverbroke town. There weren’t a lot of complicated people there as the place was crowded with honest villagers compared to the sly old foxes who had schemed all their lives.

Her husband long retired from his official post in the government and was now working as a teacher in Silverbroke town, passing down knowledge to these hardworking kids.

Her son finally had luck shine on him when he started working in Liresa city where he attracted the attention of these two sisters who were very close despite one being extroverted and the other introverted.

Her son married the two sisters who fortunately got married around the same time and just happened to have the same picky tongue.

Only god knows how hard it has been for her and the mammies at home to take care of these ancestors.

So, having someone travel ten hours for a meal, was that too difficult?

Not really.

As long as everyone was taken care of, then she was willing to do anything.

It wasn’t like she was doing anything illegal.

It was just food, after all.

"I will send the coachman tomorrow. However, it’s not certain whether we will get what we have today!" Lady Roberts agreed to her daughters-in-law, acquiescing to their requests.

When the two heard that, they looked kindly at Lady Roberts, making her speechless at how these two barely acted like daughters-in-law but rather like spoiled daughters.

However, she liked them this way.

Just because they were her daughters-in-law, did that mean that she had to suppress them?

She wasn’t that idle!
