Chapter 96: PASSING CUSTOMER
Chapter 96: Chapter 96: PASSING CUSTOMER
When the other finally stepped on the ground, Calista noticed that she might be in her late thirties or early forties.
"Thank you for agreeing to meet me. I am Lady Roberts; how may I call you?" the woman who just stepped out of the carriage introduced herself.
Calista smiled at the lady, loving her confidence for daring to even call herself a lady. Even if she was rich now, she had never dared to call herself in such a manner.
"Just call me Calista or Madam Solace, whichever suits you the best!" Calista responded coolly.
She didn’t mind someone especially older than her or closer to her to call her by her name directly. Of course, she didn’t mind being called by her last name either.
Lady Roberts flashed a smile at Calista, feeling relieved at how approachable she was.
"That’s good. I will just call you Madam Solace for now. In the future, when we get closer, I will call you by your name!"
Calista chuckled lightly upon hearing that. This lady was truly a dreamer, and she liked that.
"That’s good. What matters more is your comfort. Anyway, how may I help you? The pots are at a critical stage!"
Lady Roberts was then reminded of the reason why she called Calista out, so without further ado, she opened her mouth and revealed her purpose.
"I couldn’t help but be entranced by the aroma of the food that you are cooking. I was wondering if it’s possible to get me a portion?"
When Calista heard that, she smiled relievedly, knowing now what the other wanted from her.
"That’s pretty easy. Since you want the food, today is a promotional day. Treating my fellow villagers. The food is nearly cooked. If you want it, then you have to wait for a while. That’s if you don’t mind!" Calista was worried about the time.
If the lady was going to Silverbroke town, it would take five hours for her to reach there. And looking at where the sun was, she would reach there by night and that would be dangerous.
When Lady Roberts heard that, she felt relieved.
"It’s okay. I can wait. I can’t miss out on such delicious food!" she easily agreed.
Calista smiled. "That’s perfect then. Please wait then. When the food is ready, I will bring you some dishes!"
Lady Roberts politely bowed. "Thank you, for compromising!"
"It’s nothing."
After a brief chat with the lady, Calista returned to the restaurant, where she continued with the cooking.
After an hour and a half, the food was done.
On the side, there was rice, samp, pork stew, seswaa (the pounded stewed beef with salt and no other garnishes), soup, mashed sweet potatoes and pumpkins, as well as the soup.
When the food was finished cooking, Calista served two meal boxes for Lady Roberts. Having the lady eat at her restaurant didn’t sound pretty good. She was already late and if she ate there, who knows what time she would arrive in Silverbroke?
So, she packed two meal boxes and sent them personally to the carriage.
"You may eat this on the way!" she said as she passed the meal boxes over to Lady Roberts.
Lady Roberts’s eyes squinted happily as she accepted the boxes. "Thank you very much and this is for your trouble!" she said as she passed silver coins to her.
Calista hurriedly refused to accept the coins. "I told you, didn’t I? This is a free event. So, I will not be taking any money!"
Lady Roberts looked at Calista, checking whether she was just playing hard to get or was earnest. However, seeing her expression, she could only retract the hand with the money and thanked Calista once more.
"When you have time, and pass by here. Then support us. You can also tell your friends!" Calista said in a reminder before leaving for the restaurant.
Lady Roberts chuckled lightly as she sat in the carriage, revealing the other person who was with her. A wrapped-up lady with a delicate face.
"She is a nice lady!"
"Um, indeed. Next time we don’t have to worry about carrying too much food. We can just have it here!"
"Um, the aroma is tempting. The food should be more delicious!"
"It will be. Try it and see if it’s to your taste!" Lady Roberts said as she passed one meal box to the wrapped-up young woman.
The other accepted the meal box and gently opened it, revealing the beautiful colors inside.
"Wow! What is this?" she couldn’t help but exclaim as she looked at the several portions of food in the box.
These two weren’t the only ones exclaiming. The lady who had been helping Calista also received their shares. They have brought their meal boxes in advance, so as soon as the food was done cooking, and after Calista served the passing customers, they got busy serving these meal boxes.
The meal consisted of a scoop of samp and rice side by side. On the other side, the meat dishes gracefully shined. Seswaa was a meat dish which was pounded stewed beef with salt and no other additions to it, it could be eaten with anything.
Seswaa was set next to the pork stew while a tablespoon of soup was poured on top of both the rice and samp alongside the mashed sweet potatoes and pumpkins.
The boxes showed colors which ranged from white, pink, and orange to brown. If we leave out the other colors from the vegetables. It was quite appealing and very colorful.
With the ladies carrying their meal boxes to their homes, it signified the start of the restaurant’s promotions.
Ma Susan, Susan, Nancy and Naomi all joined Susan for the next few hours in serving the villagers. The portions were just right enough, so everyone who registered got their share.
Even a few thick-skinned people from Nicosa village got some food as well before the pots were emptied.
Before emptying everything, Calista set aside meals for herself and the Dickens family.
After all, with all the hard work they put in, letting them not have a bite wouldn’t seem fair.
Besides, who would dare go home and cook now that she had done something like that?
It was better for everyone to just celebrate together with the same food.
By the time they finished serving everyone, the sun had already set, and it was too late for them to do the dishes.
So, the only thing that could be done was to leave the dirty pots at the restaurant and have them done the next day.
And the restaurant’s official opening was a success.
As for whether there would be returning customers or not, why should that concern her?
Calista mused as she watched the sky later that night, her feet soaking in the warm water.
