Chapter 94: Chapter 94: PREPARATIONS 3
Calista looked smilingly at the two and said with a nod, "Um. As long as you have the pork and leftover rice, you can make this dish. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you need the pork. You can try it with other meats as well or just use eggs. I will show it to you another day!" elaborating further about other recipes.
Susan felt warmed up hearing that, and so was Ma Susan.
Calista, however, wasn’t done cooking as she made a marinate solution while Susan cut the remaining pork into equal-sized pieces.
When Susan was done, the pieces were added to the solution and massaged for a while. Calista left them for a while as she went on to the next step of her small feast. She didn’t feel like drinking tea but wanted some juice, so she left the outer kitchen and headed to her home, where she brought a basket of oranges and the juice maker.
She left the job of squeezing the juice to Susan while she continued with the pork she was marinating.
She was planning on making skewers, not just pork skewers but vegetable ones as well. But one thing at a time, so when the pork was fully marinated, she stacked four pieces on a skewer before placing them over the fire, the heat on low to medium to allow the meat to cook properly.
With the pork skewers cooking, she shifted to the vegetable skewers she thought of as she picked the oranges in the pantry earlier.
For these skewers, picking the vegetables she had in hand, she decided to make skewers with zucchini, pepper, yellow squash, onions, cherry tomatoes, and mushrooms.
With the majority of vegetables bought from either Silverbroke town or nearby villages, Calista’s garden only had other vegetables such as rapeseed, covo, tomatoes, onions, beet, and carrots. The rest was outsourced.
With all the ingredients gathered, Calista dutifully cut all of them into chunks.
She then alternatively threads the ingredients onto the skewers to make a contrasting color. Even though the food would still end up in the belly, it should look appealing and enticing before being devoured.
The skewers were whisked with oil and salt before being added next to the pork skewers to cook beautifully. With the two kinds of skewers on the grill, Calista kept a closer eye on them until they were all cooked perfectly.
With the skewers done cooking, the juice was done as well, making it a perfect moment to start enjoying.
However, Susan and her mother both needed to go home after spending a lot of hours with her. So, Calista served her food and left the rest to the two.
Carrying the baskets with the food, Susan and Ma Susan told Calista repeatedly to go and rest when she was done eating and taking her bath. The plates, Ma Susan, will be cleaned tomorrow.
Calista helplessly sent them away before she started enjoying her food as she remained in the kitchen where it was warm. Besides, her bath water was on the fire as well.
As she was eating, Whitey, the greedy cat, came over and Calista had to scoop a portion for him before continuing to eat her food.
After eating, Calista neatly placed all the dirty plates and pots into a huge dish before she started carrying the hot water to the house.
The fire was burnt out, the kitchen door locked and the protection formation triggered, providing a safe place for her to sleep once again.
Calista went to her house where she took a bath and felt relieved after a whole day of being on her feet and with all the smoke that literally baptized her.
With a bath, she changed into fragrant nightwear, and socks to keep warm before entering her quilts.
As it had been a long day, Calista wanted to go and sleep, but she had recently started a new hobby, which was to write a diary every day. So, without further ado, she took the diary and pen on the bedside and scribbled what she had done for the day and at the end of the journal, she added, "is been fourteen days and still no show."
After writing that, she returned the diary and drifted to sleep peacefully.

The next morning, Calista once again woke up with a refreshed body and mind. The house was warm and the quilts very pleasing and above all; she had a great dream.
She saw her business very successful, and that was all a lazy person like her, wished for when starting a business.
It was an important day, the official opening of the restaurant, and so much had to be done.
After waking up, Calista changed out of nightwear and wore a casual dress, the kind she wore in the morning before taking an official bath.
As she spread the bed, she didn’t forget to pick the silver under her pillow, making her grin as she went to the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face.
Calista was going to be leaving for the restaurant later, so there were a few things she needed to do before that happened.
She put her bathing water over the fire, and while the water got heated up, she prepared herself a beef porridge since she didn’t have enough ingredients to make a perfect beef congee.
Using the pounded beef prepared yesterday, Calista cooked the porridge the way she had always made it before. Let the water boil, add the corn powder (mealie-meal) to the water and stir until the porridge is to her taste, the thickness.
Let the porridge boil until it emits a nice fragrance, a sign of it being cooked to perfection before adding salt, sugar and oil to it. While it boiled again, Calista added a small bowl of the pounded beef to the mixture and stirred until mixed.
She let it boil for a while before removing the pot from the fire.
While it was hot, she poured the whole porridge into a huge bowl. Since she had used a small pot, the serving was enough for two people, and she could be considered two people, making it perfect.
Calista ate the warm porridge, feeling it coursing through her body, warming up her body and above all filling her up.
It didn’t take long before she was done eating and she added the rinsed plate to the dirty dishes and poured water into the pot she used to make porridge, to make it easier to wash later.
Done with eating, she carried her hot water to the house, where she took a bath and prepared for the long day that was waiting for her.
’I pray for it to be a success!’
