Chapter 91: Chapter 91: FUTURE PLANS 2
With Orson out of the picture since she had already ruled out that he was gone and seeing him again would be impossible, Calista, feeling a bit pissed off, decided to make everything bigger.
When you are rich and hold a higher position in society, no one would dare utter nonsense in front of you or even behind your back.
The walls have ears, and that was one thing that even a small kid was well aware of.
The house that she wanted to be built wasn’t going to be small. She was going to build a house, one which wasn’t going to attract a lot of unwanted attraction and suspicion, but at the same time a good one which would make others envious.
After so much deliberation, she decided that she would have a ranch house built as the main house. It was big, pleasing to the eye and didn’t look out of place. That would be the house that she would live in.
As for guests and other people, she was going to build two cottages for them. She didn’t like sharing her space, more so now that she was going to have a child. Who knows what kind of bad luck these people would bring from the outside?
After jotting her requirements, she started drawing the plans of the house. Sketching wasn’t that difficult, especially when one wasn’t drawing professionally, but to satisfy the current needs?
Besides, why go all out in a place where people can simply build after looking at a drawing with just lines and dots?
While drawing, Calista added a separate kitchen, something which she had forgotten as well as the outhouses.
Drawing the plans took her a short while and shortly she was feeling drowsy.
Before she knew it, it was already late. She had gotten too excited.
Since her body was complaining, Calista put aside the book before lying down and drifted to sleep.
The next day, she woke up later than her usual time, though it was still early, and busied herself with chores.
She made a pot of tasty breakfast and ate it with gusto before Susan arrived, holding a basket of food.
Seeing the basket, Calista smiled helplessly, though warmth was coursing through her body, happy to see that they were thinking about her.
However, as someone who had eaten, she didn’t dare to touch the food and eat recklessly.
With Susan coming, that marked the first day that Calista was going to teach Susan, which made the day special.
With everything prepared, the two friends descended the hill and headed to the restaurant where the lesson officially started.
And that marked the period where the passersby and villagers experienced what a true torturer was like.
For the next few days, Susan and Calista would spend three hours in the restaurant, cooking all sorts of food. The chimney was very playful and would let the delicious aroma escape through it alongside the smoke and torment people.
Since the restaurant wasn’t open, people were curious as to what Calista was doing there and what kind of food, she was making to smell delicious.
Fortunately, after enduring for several days, Calista finally announced to the village that the restaurant was going to open. And on the day of opening, she was going to provide free food to the villagers, limited to one dish per person and all that were interested, had to register with the village chief and bring their plates on that day.
To be safe, Calista picked a day which was a week away from the day she had the village chief announce this to the villagers, giving her ample time to prepare and wow the villagers with her craft.
After the news was spread, the villagers scrambled to register their names and after two days, Calista received the number of people who would be coming. Getting the number helped her greatly in knowing how much food she should prepare. Wasting food was one thing that she hated the most, and didn’t want to do at all.
"Everyone had literally registered. And some of them wanted to register their toddlers, but I stopped them. People shouldn’t be greedy!" Ba Susan informed her with a chuckle, as he recalled how thick-skinned some people were.
Calista chuckled as well, finding these people a bit cute but not repulsive. She still recalled back then when she was ranking lowest in the caste system, looking forward to the leftovers, since that’s all she could get. Getting a plate of hot food back then was a blessing.
Being able to just eat without any worry was something that she barely saw back then. So, seeing the villagers acting like this, she only found them cute. She had the money anyway and since she owed them a banquet, she might as well treat them to nice food and make them addicted. This way, they can come back to her once in a while.
Of course, that would be possible once they are working and with constant income flowing into their pockets. Without any money, how could they spend?
So, she was going to do her best to inject money into the villages and make the money circulate and benefit everyone.
Looking at the list, Calista was quite surprised that there were nearly three hundred and fifty-six people who had registered, and these were adults and young adults.
From Ba Susan’s mouth, she learnt that, including the children; the villagers totaled four hundred people. The village wasn’t that big and considering that there were eight surrounding villages, making the whole place more of a big village, the number was acceptable.
Feeding that number of people was going to be a hassle, and it seemed that she was going to seek external help. Having Susan alone wouldn’t suffice.
Fortunately, she was planning on serving the food from around 3 pm until late to accommodate supper and let everyone have a fulfilling meal before bed.
With the numbers in hand, all that was left now was for her to find what to cook and who to hire to help.
It was going to be one long day, and she was looking forward to it.
