Chapter 79: SUSAN’S AMBITION
Chapter 79: Chapter 79: SUSAN’S AMBITION
Upset with the crazy dream she had; Calista found it difficult to smile that day. Though she had to force herself, since she couldn’t make other people suffer just because she was suffering.
The dream truly infuriated her to the fullest. All the years she was married, was intimate with her husbands, she never conceived. Not that it was her fault, considering how her first husband unfortunately couldn’t sire children, something that was proven by how Mary’s children didn’t belong to him in the first place.
If he could sire children, then at least one child should have been his. Unfortunately, Mary, being the wonderful wife she was, colored John green from head to toe, and made him take care of and raise other men’s children as his.
To think that she raised bastards with her money again, especially after being mocked by the goddess of fertility and making her dream of giving birth to a freaking cat, Calista found herself upset.
In order to not spread her gloominess to others, after making a few rounds to check the construction sites, Calista returned to the hill where she napped in the gazebo with a charcoal heater since it was a bit cold outside.
Napping inside the house reminded her of Orson, and she didn’t want to be anywhere near the bed at that moment.
Calista didn’t know how long she napped as Whitey awakened her, with his meowing and a familiar voice calling out to her, meowing and a familiar voice calling out to her.
"Cali, Cali, where are you?" and it was Susan who was calling her.
Calista stretched her arms as she yawned, chasing away the drowsiness before she called out in response, "Come to the gazebo!" revealing where she was.
Susan called out in response, "Um, I am coming there!" making her way to where Calista was.
Moments later, Susan walked into the gazebo, spotting Calista as soon as she did.
Calista was lying on the makeshift sunbed, covered in quilts, which made Susan’s heartache. Among all the people she had seen in her life, it was Calista alone who had quilts to waste and use outside. With how precious and expensive they were, bringing them outside was a waste.
And yet when it comes to Calista, she didn’t seem to be short of quilts, and the ones she was covering herself with weren’t probably the ones she used at night. Her friend had a lot of money to spare. Fortunately, she was steady and had gotten used to it, otherwise the degree of jealousy would know no bounds.
"Why are you sleeping outside? It’s cold out here!" Susan chided as soon as she calmed her thoughts, making Calista snicker.
"You didn’t even greet me and you are scolding me already?" Calista complained as she tucked herself to cover any exposed parts.
Susan smirked at hearing her friend at it again and said as she took her seat, "You are alone now. What if something happens to you?"
"As if this little cold will kill me! Umph, I won’t be staying indoors all day. It’s suffocating, you know!"
"If it’s like that, then why didn’t you come to our house?"
"I am feeling too lazy to move!" came the response, which made Susan fume.
"You ...."
"At ease, friend. How can you get angry? Aunt will scold me if she knows!" Calista cut her friend’s words before she could say anything with a smug grin on her face.
Susan, seeing Calista using her mother to stop her, took a deep breath, scolding Calista endlessly for being too manipulative.
"Anyway, friend, why are you here? Don’t tell me you are here to confirm about the trip. I am still going tomorrow. The plans haven’t changed!" Calista said, as she smoothly changed the topic.
Susan glared at Calista and said, "I already know. Didn’t you say that again this morning?"
"I did, which is why I am quite surprised to see you here. Now, tell your big sis, why are you here? You can’t be bored at home, could you?" Calista asked, a suspicious gaze getting cast on Susan.
Upon hearing that, Susan broke into laughter before replying, "How can I be bored at home when there is a lot for me to do? Anyway, I am here for serious business. I want you to hear me out!" getting serious as she finished her sentence.
Calista heard that, and her expression shifted from playful to serious. However, she didn’t change her lying posture. With how lethargic she was feeling recently, moving was already a feat worthy of being celebrated.
"Tell me. I am all ears. If it’s anything that I can help you with, this sister will go all the way!" Calista promised earnestly, meaning every single word.
As long as it was something that required money, she didn’t lack any money at all. She didn’t have to give Susan a loan at all, but give it to her. After all, all these years, only this girl had been by herself faithfully without wavering.
At least, even if she wavered, she didn’t leave her but continued to be by her side. Which was one thing that she loved about her.
When Susan heard that, she breathed with relief. Glad to know that she didn’t have much to worry about. Just like what her parents had assured her, Calista would support her as best as she could.
"This .... You know that I didn’t know much before I met you and all that changed when we became close. Thanks to our friendship, I learnt a lot from you and even benefited. Which is something that I will always be grateful for forever." With a sincere expression, Susan began to pour her heart into Calista.
Calista blushed upon getting flattered from nowhere, moreover, Susan’s words were pleasing to the ears. Knowing that her friend recognized what she did for her, Calista felt that Susan was worth it. Some people would never see it that way. After all, in their heads, they would be thinking that since they helped the other before, then all of that was well deserved.
Humans were fickle, after all.
