Chapter 77: WHERE IS HE?
Chapter 77: Chapter 77: WHERE IS HE?
Orson’s departure coincided with the start of June, the official month when winter starts for real without letting anything go.
However, despite the arrival of the cold, the villagers were merrier than they were in the previous year.
A lot of things had happened in the past month. Villagers got jobs, got paid and were living comparably better than before. So how could they complain?
On the first day of Orson’s departure, Calista didn’t let herself wallow in grief, after all, she was an adult. Whatever would happen in the future, she would humbly accept it. At least she tried her best and let herself trust him.
She didn’t know if he was going to return after leaving this time, but she sincerely hoped that he would come back to her. That was the greatest level of trust she could give to a man who had been hiding secrets from her regarding his identity.
There was so much to do, and Calista could only pick that up to stop herself from thinking too much.
At the moment she was having the restaurant, factory and dorms built. The clinic was now completed with the furniture, medicine and the doctor remaining. It was going to take a while for that to be found, after all, Orson had left to go and find those for her.
In the meantime, she could just wait for him and hope that he returns.
The workshop wasn’t going to take long before it was completed, as for the restaurant, it was just a matter of time and that’s where the urgency was for her.
When the restaurant was completed, she needed to have everything sorted since she didn’t want to look like a headless chicken without any direction.
On this day, after breakfast, Calista took a walk around the village as she pondered on the menu she wanted to serve in the future.
The fact that she built a restaurant on the roadside, surrounded by villages, was quite risky as there was no guarantee of getting customers who could afford or at least afford to pay for what she had to offer.
Thinking along that route, another thought suddenly emerged.
What if she came up with recipes which didn’t require her to buy expensive ingredients? Make meals which would allow even villagers to have a taste of wonderful food. It wasn’t like she was doing all of this to earn massive profits.
Her main goal at starting everything was to improve the villagers’ lives. The people surrounding her were too backward. Using too much oil could be seen as a waste, but haven’t they noticed that food tastes better with a bit more oil?
In these past few weeks, her head had become a bit too muddleheaded and filled with money that she lost track of her goals. However, with a walk, everything returned which was a huge relief.
With that in mind, it became easy for her to know where to start.
And the brainstorming process took two days until she was satisfied with what she wanted to prepare.
On the third day after Orson left, Calista was checking the clinic which was now dry since the floors were wet daily, getting strengthened after the flooring was done.
Accompanying her was the village chief, Ba Susan and another middle-aged man, very popular with the villagers, Ba Mary, a carpenter. His craft was very good and the majority of furniture made in the village was done by him.
At least it was more cost-efficient to buy from him than to visit Silverbroke or the city. Although there were other things, Calista preferred to buy from more experienced carpenters.
What she wanted right now, however, wasn’t complicated and Ba Mary could do it.
"Have you thought about what you want him to make?" seeing Calista nodding her head satisfactorily after checking the floors, Ba Susan asked.
Calista looked at Ba Susan and nodded her head.
"Um, I have come up with the list!" she said with a nod as her focus shifted to Ba Mary.
Seeing that she was confident, Ba Susan responded, "Um, then tell him what you want. He will start right away. We can’t have the clinic done without working."
Calista smiled finding Ba Susan’s words very true.
"It doesn’t need to be complicated what I want. I want to get a single bed, should be comfortable at least for someone to lie in it. I need three chairs, a desk, a cabinet and a bookshelf for the office. Four benches for the hall, a desk and a chair. Can you do that?" Calista smoothly gave the list.
Ba Mary nodded his head as he jotted everything in memory.
"I can do all of it but it might take a while!"
Calista became lost in thoughts for a while before responding, "It’s fine. As long as you give your utmost best. Whatever is done, that’s what we will get. And I almost forgot, I need another shelf, and two cabinets for the storage room as well!" slapping her forehead lightly for nearly forgetting.
Ba Susan hearing the list growing longer, the hand behind his back suddenly went by the side and said before Ba Mary could respond, "How about you tell him what is more urgent? This way he can start working on that!"
Hearing that, Calista’s eyes lit up. "That’s a good idea!" she said before turning to look at Ba Mary and giving a fresh list. "You can start with the shelves, cabinets, one chair and a desk. When these are done, we can move on to the next list."
Ba Susan nodded satisfactorily upon hearing the revised list, and so did Ba Mary. The three of them discussed for a while before Ba Mary excused himself.
With him gone, Calista and Ba Susan began to make their way towards Ba Susan’s house. ma Susan had invited Calista for lunch, so she was going to grab a free meal there.
On their way to the house, Calista stopped once in a while as she talked with the villagers.
Nearing the house, one villager, known for her outspoken personality suddenly asked as Calista was about to resume her journey.
"It’s been a few days since we saw your husband. Where is he?" her eyes tinged with curiosity, and as soon as that question was posed, all eyes were on her.
Hearing that question, Calista wanted to grab someone to answer the same question as well. Fortunately, it was still early, so she opened her mouth and responded with a smile.
"He went to visit his family!" lying with a straight face.
Who knows if she would slap her own face if she truthfully answers, for him to never return to her side? She didn’t dare risk it!
